Workers at a Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Tennessee have opted to trade a paid Labor Day holiday for the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
A 5-year contract approved by members of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union at the Shelbyville, Tenn., plant last November includes the change to accommodate Muslim workers.

I believe Labor Day is a Federal Holiday.
That’s ok. I don’t mind replacing theirs for Chick fil A anyway!
Well, that’s an easy boycott. Never again.
Unions v. Muslims? Sounds like Bud Light time to me.
Is Chick-fil-A selling Halal chicken?
time to “eat mor pork”.
Golden Plump for me!
No v., it's an &.
I take it that since the workers are muslim these
chickens are Halal?
I believe I just report the stories.
Bring barbeque pork and bacon to work to celebrate the missing holiday in your own special way.
Tyson is easy to drop-because it doesn’t taste good!
Anyway, I dropped them WAY back when I learned how much they donated to Billy Boy and Evita.
We have NEVER bought Tyson products since we found out a long time ago that Hitlery Klinton was on their board.
This was reinforced when it was reported that Tyson had received 68 gigs in one day from the FDA for poop contaimined chicken meat.
I thought Tyson was a Christian owned company?
Move those workers to Tyson Pork and you can keep your Labor Day.....
No idea, ask them.
Somebody needs to have a hog killing in the parking lot
We’re having LBJ day today in Texas. Optional holiday for State employees. And no, I’m not kidding.

If Obama’s re-elected, he’ll trade Independence Day for Rhamidan.....
The union certainly isn’t Christian.
I dropped Tyson years ago. Not that I was a big consumer to begin with.
Still, they hire a lot of illegal labor.
Or, at least they did years past.
Appropriate, since Americans will no longer be “Independent” and we’ll be under Sharia law....
There. Fixed. Let's just call it for what it is.
I don’t know.
I’m guessing that Arkansas is a “right to work” state and that Tyson’s is not unionized. If it union, then they have been dhimmified.
If Obama's re-elected, the concept of American independence will be meaningless anyway.
As the Pork Producers advertise:
Pork, it is the other white meat.
H’mmm, can that be considered a “racist” statement?
I’m guessing you didn’t read the article.
This is a union contract.
The plant is in Tennessee.
LBJ day?
Do you stuff a ballot box and hunt deer at night with a spotlight to celebrate? We have had some real sleazeballs as president but LBJ has to be at or near the top of the list.
the workers are muslim
Makes since they use muslims to chop the heads off chickens.
Do the scream Alahhu akbar each time?

Than Tyson.
And Quron ain't even real chicken it is a mycoprotein grown in a vat by fungus!
lord forgive me,but I despise Muslims. I don’t want to say I hate them but I absolutely do not like them and I wish we could boot them all out. I do not trust them.
We should be celebrating on the anniversary of LBJ’s death.
Labor Day at Tyson Foods
American Flag
Outdated, misleading information about Tyson employee holidays has surfaced on the Internet. Contrary to recently circulated reports, Tyson does NOT offer its workers a paid Muslim holiday at any location.

Yum.
It’s the ideal food for a fun guy...
Well, surely, this means these Muslims will be working on Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, the 4th of July and Christmas.
You should see the price of beer at a Tampa Bay Rays game. Nine bucks for an aluminum bottle of Budweiser.
Geez,Louise.
I don’t drink beer but I cannot believe how much a can/bottle/cup of beer costs at these games.
Went to see the Movie “2016” last night.
That was pretty much my point.
You take all the fun out of FR by posting facts.
I quit buying Tyson a long time ago.
It seemed every time I bought one of their meat products it was spoiled and I had to take it back to store.
What? is this satire?
Tyson is long gone from our house. My wife says it isn’t fresh and smells bad when cooked.
Pilgrim’s Pride.
We don’t buy any meat from Walmart. In fact, I don’t think my wife goes there anymore anyway. I sure don’t and have not set foot in a Walmart in years.
I trade with the local merchants. Better quality, better service and only a bit higher. Same for the big box stores. What good does it do to save 10% on a blister pack of screws when more than 90% of the screws strip or twist off? Chinese junk is just JUNK. I avoid it any way possible.
This is an old article. Also, it sounds like the workers union not Tyson requested the change. Dont get me wrong, I have a big problem with this. This is AMERICA and we should be celebrating American holidays. When this article was first posted, I remember alot of angry pings because labor day was started by unions.
N&V - this is a 2008 story ?
They're always super good and fresh.
I don't know why anyone thinks there's a savings shopping at Walmart.
Besides, I can't deal with the people who walk around in Walmart. Too weird for me
“Still, they hire a lot of illegal labor”
Unfortunatly, this is one of those jobs Americans refuse to do. We have a large chicken producer in central Wisconsin. Starting pay is great - over $13.00/hour. They can never find or keep help. I guess slaughtering chickens 8 hours a day gets old fast. And it’s much easier to sit back and live off the government.
Sounds like the workers decided this.

Maybe they get this voted in, then demand Labor Day, too since it is a national holiday.
