Missouri Food Bank Association (give to them the money you planned to give Akin?)
feeding missouri dot org ^ | 8-2012

Welcome

Hunger is a reality in Missouri.

One in eight Missourians receive emergency food assistance every year. The food banks of the Missouri Food Bank Association are the solution to hunger statewide. Through our network of over 2,000 agencies, we provided 68 million meals to your friends, neighbors, and children’s classmates last year. The need is increasing and your support feeds hungry Missourians.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: akin; children; hunger; missouri
These are tough times in our country. If you were going to donate to Todd Akin and now realize that such would be flushing the money down the toilet, consider doing some good with the money and donate to a food bank. Helping those in need, particularly children who may go hungry, is one of the most worthwhile things we do in Kiwanis.

Look for opportunities where very little salaries are paid and where volunteer hours are high. Volunteer a few hours a week if you can. It really will make you feel good.

Todd Akin is the CANDIDATE for SENATE period.
If and when he withdraws I will back the replacement.
Until then everyone can pile on Todd, but he is opposing Claire. Do you really rather an unopposed election where she could divert her Campaign funds to other closer races?
Get real and make her spend to win.

To paraphrase an old quote: Todd is the Candidate wright or wrong.

Sadly, in many areas most of the food bank food gets scarfed up by those already getting food stamps, which they sold to buy drugs.

They drive from food bank to food bank in areas they don't even live in.

I recently read that our local food bank was shutting down due to problems with the people they were trying to help. They’ve had fights, stabbings, thefts, and threatened volunteers.

I agree with Beagle8U. I pay a hell of a lot of taxes already to feed the “hungry” as well as parasites in general.

For those with ADS (Akins Derangement Syndrome) send spare change Jim DeMint’s Conservative Senate Fund!

I hear the same thing in our area, but I can’t square the fact that 30%-40% of poor are obese, USDA food stamps are at record levels, yet foodbanks are seeing more demand than ever. “Poor” kids in our city can now get 3 meals a day at school (of course, that’s when they are in school ie. not summertime).

I see children who are poorly raised, or not raised at all, it seems - but I don’t see skeletons walking around.

I’m not being cynical - its that something just doesn’t seem right. Maybe I need to volunteer at some of these places.

Let me get this straight, Doug.

Akin is not going to leave the race, so your response is to see that he is defeated and McCaskill gets another term?

Does that about sum it up?

Why sacrifice any American on the altar of Political Correctness, especially when everyone knew what he meant. Forcible Rape a crime of control and force as compared to morning after rape a decision after the fact etc. Why destroy a human soul for the actions or desires any adult or group. I look to the God fearing Missourians to do the right thing. As for the food banks should you be challenging the expenses on both sides, to achieve their aims.

Kids are hungry in the United States because their parents are STUPID and not budgeting their money or using it for something else. Get a grip, jack, vote pro-life! Look at the obese kids in school and they get free breakfast and lunch.

re: Did you ask your friend Claire to donate? You’re reading more and more like a Democrat.

Way too funny. And ironic. Claire has already donated a great deal to Akin's campaign. I want her gone. Everyone here wants her gone. Unfortunately, the only one who cannot beat her is a lunatic. 50% of his own supporters want him gone. He has plummeted with independents. Most conservatives may well come back around; but you do not win elections if you cannot attract independents. Political Reality 101. I will donate to a campaign by Brunner, Steelman or others. I do not like throwing away money because it has become difficult to earn these days in the Obamaconomy. So I will give to the food bank and Salvation Army.

I'm reading more and more like a Democrat? That is the best you've got? Do some research on me and my history here. That may take awhile --- 7,172 threads posted and 78,401 replies. Then get back to me. Go ask DU if I sound like a Democrat?

No. He is the one who has created his own demise without any help from me. Some just think with their hearts instead of their heads and refuse to see what is in front of them. I actually made an economic point. In lieu of flushing money down the toilet, use it for some good. If not a food bank, the Salvation Army or the Boy Scouts.

So you would rather flush the Missouri Senate seat down the tubes.

Thing is, Romney is the LAST person I wanted, but I still support him. No money, of course, but I'll vote for him

And I'm not running around telling other people not to give him money if they want to.

It really is true. Conservatives are their own worst enemies.

Nice graphic. Send it to your little echo chamber. Congratulations. You know how to right click someone else's work and cut and paste.

Todd Akin, not me or anyone else who mocks him, is going to be responsible for a horrible pro-abortion woman staying in the Senate. That is his doing. And it makes me sick as a Catholic who believes in the sanctity of life. His arrogance and ego are going to allow McKasKILL to keep the seat that a conservative pro-lifer, other than him, would have been been able to take and could still take. Some are able to recognize that political reality, while others keep wishing and hoping that what is, is not. Do what you wish with your money. Bet on the Jaguars to beat the Patriots without a point spread if you like. The folly is equal.

I didn’t want Romney either and may well not vote for him because California is lost. It is an opportunity to vote my conscience. If I were in a toss up state, it would be awful but I would have to punch the chad for him. If he wins, I will be out in the street and on talk radio fighting him where he is wrong. That may start on Jan. 21.

Think about what you wrote. She diverted her campaign funds to the MO GOP primary race.

Every single day conservatives in MO should call Akin's campaign and ask him to go.

McCaskill doesn't have to spend because she has it in the bag now.

I did think about what I posted. She did run ads for him in the primary. She did want him to win because she thought he is the easiest to beat. However, and there is always a however in life, that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t spend money to win the General.
Todd is the ELECTED CANDIDATE for the Ticket until and unless he withdraws. In the mean while I continue to back the only Candidate we have in the race. I will not vote for Claire.
The conservatives who continue to call for him to step aside can go on doing so right up to the point Claire wins or get over it and help Todd WIN.
As you can tell I am not happy with those who would keep screaming and eating our own rather than trying to repair any damage and win. I wish they would work half as hard to defeat Claire as they are trying to go against Todd.

I would add, as an alternative if you want to continue to support conservative candidates, donating to Josh Mandel in Ohio. He has been able to come up from being down by double digits to make it draw as of last week in his Senate race. Consider him the anti-Akin if you will. Regardless, this is a winnable race and it will particularly satisfying to throw out the socialist trust fund baby (Sherrod Brown).

Stomping your little feet and holding your breath until you turn purple is not going to make Akin get out of the race.

I am not stomping my feet, which are not little, or holding my breath. Rather, I made an economic argument. It took me awhile to learn, but as a businessman, I have learned that throwing good money after bad is foolish. If someone has money to spend for politics this year, sending it to Akin is throwing good money after bad. McCasKILL, on the other hand, made a good investment. Maybe the best money she ever spent.

It would be better spent and better for the pro-life movement to send money to a pro-life conservative in a tight race, even in another state. Or do some good with it and help local people in need. If you don’t think the food bank is the right place, I have found the Salvation Army to be wonderful and efficient. Our Kiwanis group works with them a great deal.

That is my suggestion. But if you feel it is the right thing to give money to Akin, go for it. It is, after all, your money. Good luck with that investment.

You don't even live in Missouri, do you? Is Upland in Missouri?

If Akin has a chance of winning, which he does, why do you want to piss that away on a temper tantrum?

For that matter, shouldn't you be stomping your petite feet and holding your breath because Romney is the nominee?

The objective is to win.

You appear to believe that the objective is to get your way.

- Upland is in California (you live in Alaska; that is also not Missouri, so what is the point?)

- I am pissing nothing away and my opinion is not a temper tantrum - I believe Akin does not have a chance of winning

- I gave advice on the use of money; if some want to just flush it down the toilet, it is their money and right to do that...I would rather not waste my money...given the choice of helping someone in need or giving it to Akin, I choose giving it to someone in need

- again I will correct you...my feet are not petite...nice rhyme

- I did not want Romney as the nominee...again, I do not hold my breath and throw tantrums....I read what I have time to read, evaluate the political reality, and give an opinion

- it appears that my objective is to get my way? WTF? What does that mean? We all take positions and make arguments to defend our positions.

I am pleased that you at least read my arguments. You can perhaps agree. You can hopefully at least find them logical because I try to do some research. You can disagree. We simply disagree.

Akin can win in the "Anybody but McCaskill" sense, just as Romney is "Anybody but Obama."

I repeat: Akin can win because people hate LearJet McCaskill.

Can you hear me now? Or is California so far away that you really don't know what's going on in Missouri, you just like to pretend you do?

I'm guessing that post #5 has the explanation: the welfare class are trading food stamps for cash to buy drugs, liquor and expensive shoes and manicures, and then hitting the food banks for food.

High demand for food-bank food does not necessarily mean that people are hurting more, it may mean that deadbeats are making the rounds.
