New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast faced the anniversary of devastating Hurricane Katrina by hunkering down for new storm amid "a high level of anxiety," as the Crescent City's mayor put it Monday.
Forecasters project Tropical Storm Isaac will reach hurricane strength before hitting the northern Gulf Coast early Wednesday, seven years to the day after Katrina slammed ashore near the Louisiana-Mississippi state line. Residents of low-lying coastal areas from the Florida Panhandle to southeastern Louisiana were ordered to evacuate ahead of storm surges and heavy rain, while the mayor of New Orleans -- which was flooded by Katrina -- acknowledged "a high level of anxiety" due to the coincidence.

I hope Govenor Jindall Takes this opportunity to show what REAL LEADERSHIP looks like!
He is still an idiot and does not have a Southern drawl. He makes want to throw up.
Thank you — with all the bad news. comic relief is
sometimes needed!
I can hear his Southern drawl every time I hear him which is not often because I despise the sound of his voice and would rather listen to 100 cats scraping their claws against a blackboard.
He makes me want to hurl as well. I have never understood how he was hired as a news broadcaster.
Pffft. This is simply a weak Cat 1 storm that the media is trying to hyperventilate into another Katrina for political purposes.
If I were writing the news, it would be about the much-needed rains that might be coming to the Midwest from this storm.
And why is it they built a city a whole bunch of feet below sea level?
I’d love to see a Cat 4 hurricane barrel into Charlotte in a few weeks just to see how sensitive the Democrats are.
This hurricane will probably end up, by landfall, as a medium-high Cat 2 (the Gulf is like bathwater right now).
Your observation about Isaac sending much-needed rains right up the Mississippi Valley is spot on, too.
We really need a hurricane come up the east coast and break some of this humidity and summer weather. I’m ready for some good Fall 60 degree days.
The dems couldn’t will this storm into Tampa, now they’re praying it hits NOLA
Ray’s first job was at GM.
I’m sure it was the basic training for his superb management skills.
Are the republicans still thinking about calling off the Convention on tuesday out of fear of appearing insensitive to those in the hurricanes path?
Question should be, is bambi changing his schedule?
Why of course not. "Any good manager is able to multi-task and delegate others to take care of business" would probably be what Chris Matthews would say in response to that and may even add "the GOP, however, has shown us that it's only capable of handling one crisis at a time."
And the gay Southern Decadence festival is scheduled this week in New Orleans too. Aug 29-Sep3.
Yes. Why isn’t Bush doing something about it now? Seven years, and he still hasn’t prepared./sarc
O's tee times are rock solid.
Obama hates blacks and the Chocolate City.
When disaster strikes, how does one dispose of broken CFL bulbs. Just wondering.
