Why Is The Press Ignoring The Success Of '2016'?
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 08/27/12 | IBD Staff

Why is the mainstream press always surprised whenever a conservative movie does well? Case in point: the huge early success of the hard-hitting documentary "2016: Obama's America."

The movie, made with almost no money and no major studio backing, by neophyte directors, and with zero attention from the mainstream press, grossed $6.5 million over the weekend, putting in the top 10.

So far, "2016" has taken in more than $9.3 million, which puts it easily within reach of becoming one of the top five highest-grossing political documentaries of all time.

Questions such as this one seem to abound here lately and are really beginning to make my skin crawl. For heaven’s sake, if you don’t know the answer to such an obvious and elementary question by now, you need to retire yourself to the home for the galactically unaware.

I hope one result of this election is that it becomes a referendum on the media. I'd like to see a widespread conversation about the people who have risen to the top of the journalism herd and why they joined the fanaticism over creating Obama by keeping his past and personality a secret.

Then I'd like to see a serious and continuing discussion about why, with all we no know, they joined effort to promote and reelect him.

Why does the media (for the most part) apparently support the destruction of our heritage and the systematic dismantling of the republic of the greatest country the world has known?

They typically don’t brag about a movie that finished 8th in the weekend rankings.

7th overall. In just over 1000 theaters. #1 in 'per-screen' average, which is why it is expanding AGAIN, into over 1600 theaters this Friday. Not too shabby.

From CNN International's 'Box Office Guru', Gitesh Pandya:

The political documentary 2016 Obama’s America enjoyed a strong nationwide expansion and jumped into the top ten with $6.5M from only 1,091 theaters, up from last weekend's 169 locations. Released by Rocky Mountain, the PG-rated pic that examines how the re-election of the president would be harmful to the nation generated the best average of any film in the Top 20 with $5,966. Total stands at $9.3M and with two weeks of political conventions coming up and the film gaining media attention, much more is likely to come with 2016 on its way to possibly reaching $30M or more - a gargantuan number for a doc.

Note the descriptive 'gargantuan'. It is now rated #6 ALL-TIME among political documentaries, with just over $9 million in the till.

What does Obama actually want the country to be after he’s done “transforming” it? He doesn’t want to be president; he wants to be dictator. The 174,000 guns he ordered for the DHS and SSA are not for 2016 but for 2012. Read more at http://dailycaller.com/2012/08/17/who-does-the-government-intend-to-shoot/. Americans, according to him, voted democracy out of office in 2008.

Word spreads between us - conservative to conservative - because ‘the press’ is controlled by Democrats. We are the underground.

I read the book and just saw the film.

Are there plans to buy time and show this film on television in October?

All voters need to see this, Dem, Ind or Republican.

Well done!

I would assume within a month or so it will go to DVD and pay-per-view. Once a DVD goes on sale people can hold “2016” parties and invite the neighbors.

OTOH, it is a high earning for a political documentary. Even more important, it held onto the audience on Monday to an unusually high degree, and ranked 2nd for Monday. So this is probably going to end up outgrossing Al Gore's and Michael Moore's documentaries, except for Fahrenheit which was a monster hit. However, the level of drops from Fri to Mon are so small, they actually just about match Fahrenheit's trajectory. But Fahrenheit started out with a much bigger opening. If 2016 keeps the same trajectory, it could earn about $40 million, $15 million more than the next highest political documentaries under Fahrenheit.
