After my 1,200 mile road trip from Florida to Pennsylvania in August, passing many billboards on the way, I noticed a significant increase in digital billboards over last year's road trip.

Using the RFID chip in your toll pass clipped on your windshield, the billboard company will know who you are. For example, if you are a fisherman, bait store locations will appear on the billboard, along with your FreeRepublic synonym.
We'll be seeing the modern equivalent of Burma Shave ads again.

You'll ignore it. It will then become more in your face; you'll learn to ignore that too. It will then become even more intrusive, and someone will invent the automotive version of pop-up-blockers and ad-filters.
I have a phrase for billboards, “litter on a stick”. IMHO, billboards should be banned especailly being a distraction on the highway. Drive I-70 across Missouri and it is pretty bad. I would favor small signs before each exit to tell what is available like for gas, hotels and restaurants.
The digital billboards are more of a distraction.
