Customer kills gunman during armed robbery
Jacksonville Times-Union, FL ^ | 28 August 2012 | Clifford Davis

A 57-year-old father and grandfather stopped off on his way home from work Monday night to fill a grocery list his wife left for him that morning. But after entering the Dollar General at 1921 Dunn Ave., he was thrust into an armed robbery that ended with him firing his weapon and one of the two robbers lying dead on the floor. Two men entered the store about 9:20 p.m., both with handguns, said Lt. Rob Schoonover of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. “One of them had the clerk and one of them was at the front cash register,” Schoonover said. The manager then alerted the customer to the situation. “The customer, who had a concealed firearms permit and a firearm, fired at the suspect, striking him apparently two times, killing him,” Schoonover said.

It’s like a good-news/bad-news scenario.

One killed, the other ran away.

Ah well, 50% ain’t bad.

The other will likely be caught soon.

Soon after the incident, police allowed the customer to call and reassure his family.

Wow, that was mighty nice of them.

This has the potential to become another ‘Zimmerman’ case.

Florida law is supposed to prevent that but too many RINOs still around and p.c. ness abounds.

The accomplice will be tried for robbery and for murder (he is liable for the death of the dead robber).

The innocent shooter will likely be formally exonerated by a grand jury.

You forgot to mention that the second robber fled the store with a severe case of diarrhea.

In many states the accomplice can be tried for murder under the “felony murder” rule.

“Someone died - justice can only be served with a trial.”

You are quite wrong. Justice is served in many ways every day. A trial is really the last resort and seldom the best. We used to have a meritocracy in this country, where hard work was rewarded. That was justice. Now Obama has given us a kleptocracy, where only the connected insiders make out. This is what they call “social justice”.

The way I see this, if the punishment for abuse of a gun is jailtime; then there should be a reward for proper use of a handgun.

If I were in charge, I’d give this man a reward - equal to the cost to the taxpayers for a trial and 2 years of incarceration. This would be a tax-free reward on the order of $75,000 paid to this hero.

This would promote two very good goals. It would motivate good people to do the right thing, and it would be a strong disincentive for criminals to rob others.

But, I’m kinda weird that way. I have no problem killing thugs, rapists, robbers and muggers.

Sorry! but must disagree. People are PRESUMED innocent until proven guilty in court. That was for the protection of prisoners who could present their case to people who were not present at the scene. This guy was killed by a civilian while in the process of threatening the life of others. It was a necessary killing for the protection of others. Justice was served and the taxpayers did not have to spend a lot of money on a trial

“Someone died - justice can only be served with a trial.”

What? You must be a lurking RAT! Let’s spend a bunch of money on worthless, scumbag lawyers, their equally worthless counterparts in the DA’s office, and an asshole judge who is a judge because he’s too stupid to make a living as a lawyer, is that what you want? There is in-store video of the incident. The cops should be able to figure out what really happened. We have all this “talent” and money sitting around, so let’s get on with the spending is that right?

Now that I’ve read the book...can’t wait for the movie to come out.

I’m betting the father/grandfather/shooter had a shot at the escaping accomplice’s back but didn’t take advantage of it.

I wonder if there is a racial angle that the Liberal Media can seize on? I can see the headlines now: “White Supremacist Murders Innocent Aspiring Rap Star! Mom said he was a good boy, sang in the church choir and was finally turning his life around after only a very short stay in the State Penitentiary”.
