FACT CHECK: Anti-Obama film muddy on facts
AP ^ | 8-28-12 | By BETH FOUHY

WASHINGTON (AP) — ‘‘2016: Obama’s America,’’ a new conservative film exploring the roots of President Barack Obama’s political views, took in $6.2 million to make it one of the highest-grossing movies of last weekend. The film, written and narrated by conservative scholar Dinesh D'Souza, argues that Obama was heavily influenced by what D'Souza calls the ‘‘anti-colonial’’ beliefs of his father, Barack Obama Sr., a Kenyan academic who was largely absent from the president’s life.

Fact Check could be a little more precise here, don’t you think? Like, the SOB was NEVER there for his purported son. NEVER. They met, what? Once?

AP “Fact Checking” an anti-Obama film. My, that didn’t take long. I’m sure they did similar “Fact Checking” on CBS’s fake Bush stories, or the many books written about what a terrible guy GW was. The media in this country have become a charicature of itself. Truly.

But it’s difficult to see how Obama’s political leanings could have been so directly shaped by his father, as D'Souza claims.

Beth darling, I really hate to burst your 0bama2012 bubble masquerading as journalism, but that "claim" isn't D'Souza's. It's Barry's. You know, like, from his book? The one titled "Dreams from My Father"? The books where he documents how the memory of his father's supposed anti-colonial and third world communist heroics shaped his political views? That book? Maybe you've heard of it?

Fact-checking the fact-checkers

Apparently, all it takes to present an aura of impartiality is to declare yourself a "fact-checker."

Well...D’Souza was an idiot for putting in the Churchill bust story. There were two busts and the one in question WAS on loan. He didn’t extend the loan. Let’s be honest. We don’t need to pull out these stupid stories when we have so many REAL facts that point to Obama’s epic fail.

But she can be excused for assuming that Obama really isn't that familiar with that book, since it was actually written by Bill Ayres.

A new list of Fact Checks just in:
1) Obama had his Birth Certificate forged on Feb. 3, not Feb.
2) Obama fraudulently used the SS# of John Daniels. Not John Smith, when forging his SS Card in 1980.
3) Obama’s draft card was doctored in 1978 not 1979
4) To obtain the finishing touches on the anti american communist indoctrination he visited Frank Marshall Davis as a child on Mondays and Wednesday. Not Thursday and Saturday.
You see, everything about the film is a lie.

I didn’t think the story about the removal of the bust of Churchill from the oval office was stupid. I thought the action of returning it simultaneously with assuming the Presidency was unbelievably rude and ignorant. Americans expect better public and private behavior from the leader of their republic. Can you imagine any other US president doing something that hateful and arrogant? The story was very telling.

What is the logical conclusion from this sentence? "D'Souza then goes through a list of actions Obama has taken as president to support his thesis. Many of them don’t hold water:"

Therefore some of them.... Of course the writer doesn't list any of these.

Beth Fuoy a deep thinker...NOT. She doesn’t think the absent Barack Obama Sr. had any influence on little Barry Soetero? When I watched the film I got the immediate impression that Barry’s mamma used to pump his head full of glorious bed time stories about the wonderful Barack Sr. I also got the feeling that when Barry lived in Indonesia his new adopted father didn’t really have any time for Barry and in fact the disagreements they had lead to his deportation back to Hawaii to live with the grandparents.

Yes, Obama was rude and a host of other invectives...but what was stupid - and I stand by this opinion - was the articles about this that did not give the full story. Like I said, we have so much ammo on ODumbo, we don’t need to withhold information to make stories “better.”

The dabbling newspaper employee merely discredits Mr. D'Souza by citing Obama statements, whining that "Bush did it too!" and in this case the dabbler is just plain clueless and a bit misleading..

"But it’s difficult to see how Obama’s political leanings could have been so directly shaped by his father, as D'Souza claims. The elder Obama left his wife and young son, the future president, when Obama was 2 and visited his son only once, when Obama was 10."

Misleading by saying that Mr. D'souza said that Obama was directly shaped by his father. Directly as in person-to-person? I cannot imagine Mr. D'Souza said person-to-person.

The newspaper's dabbler is clueless. Obama is a biological and ideological product of ultra leftists and his absent father certainly leaned Marxist. His mentor was a wallah in the CP/USA. As a youth Obama could have viewed his Marxist leaning father as a heroic and powerful man in far off Kenya. Obama's political leanings certainly were influenced by an ideology embraced by both his mother and his father and he certainly admired his father and his mentor.

The dabbler speculates to refute: "D'Souza seems to suggest . . . ."

The dabbler presents her "well-researched" and most powerful proof against D'Souza's facts: "Many of them don’t hold water."

The Afghan war goes on and our military continues to kill the enemy the only way a president can stop it is by ordering the military to stand down -- the Obama Administration meanwhile is willing to work with the Taliban and pack up and leave on a scheduled date. I believe those are facts.

Diplomatically vis-a-vis the Falkland Islands. Where's proof that Obama backed 100% the U.S. refusal in April to endorse a final declaration on Argentina’s claim to the islands? Sometimes even a president must do what he personally opposes.

D'Souza knows about the trade and economic sanctions against Iran so was the "Obama has done nothing" about Iran really what D'Souza charged? Even the newspaper employee typed in "Obama opposes a near-term military strike on Iran, either by the U.S. or Israel, although he says the U.S. will never tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran." Seems Obama is a bit bifurcated. So how can D'Souza be totally wrong?

The dabbler never mentioned the British Embassy clarification about the Prime Minister Winston Churchill bust.

The article is a bust that is certainly welcomed in the Oval Office.

But he never mentions the explosion of debt that occurred under Obama’s predecessor

Perhaps because the debt under Bush was dwarfed by Obama's?

Perhaps because for 7 1/2 years of Bush's tenure we had great prosperity despite 2 wars and meanwhile Obama heads an economy with unemployment consistently over 8%?

IDIOT journalists.

Much of this isn't a matter of facts, but of interpretations.

Just how much of a role "anti-colonialism" played in the lives of father and son is a matter of interpretation, but calling an attack piece "fact checking" implies that the "fact checkers" are doing something more than pitting their opinions and interpretations against other opinions and interpretations.

"Fact checking" allows propagandists to get on their high horse and turn differences of opinion into ethical violations.

That said, I think D'Souza is on the wrong track, and if he really claims without evidence that Obama was preoccupied with the problems of native Hawaiians in his younger days or "coached" in "oppression studies" at Punahou, it does work against his thesis.

There are a lot of "of course" assumptions that people don't question. It's not hard for a reporter to nail these things down if he does his homework, not doing so cuts into a writer's credibility.

Or that the "academic" was allowed by Hahvuhd to mail it in from Kenya to get his Ph.D., after he was kicked from the country and from the free-lunch study program he was on, for getting yet another young white girl pregnant, this one an underage teen (as in, "statutory rape").
