The White House announced Tuesday that the administration has finalized fuel-efficiency standards requiring cars and light-duty trucks get 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.
These fuel standards represent the single most important step weve ever taken to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, President Obama said in a statement. This historic agreement builds on the progress weve already made to save families money at the pump and cut our oil consumption. By the middle of the next decade our cars will get nearly 55 miles per gallon, almost double what they get today. Itll strengthen our nation's energy security, it's good for middle class families and it will help create an economy built to last.

They might as well require the development and manufacture of warp drives.
Fuel standards by diktat.
This guy is a loon.. the cars and trucks will have weigh to 50 pounds and be made out of styrofoam and tin foil to achieve that ‘standard’.
How many dead folks in car crashes per mile.
If one if these cars hits my 3/4 ton Ford pickup they will not be safe
So...do I have to keep checking the pressure on my tires, or can I stop now?
Our 200 plus year history has been a waste of men and time if we allow this to happen.
Obama out now.
Fuel standards by diktat.
More like fuel standards by a dip$hit.
Never gonna happen.
Hard to believe 50% of the country believes this sh!t coming out of his mouth.
Where has my precious America gone?
I doubt that the new “cars” would even slow up my F350.
And the only other important person in the universe, my wife, probably wouldn’t be bothered in her Explorer.
So, I guess this works for me.
Time to invest in Yamaha and Harley Davidson. Everyone will be on cycles, just like China and India.
What a bureaucrat — couldn’t he have rounded it up to 55 mpg?
Are they also trying to perfect the flux capacitor?
"Savings" offset by the extra cost of the vehicle....typical lib speaks that always involves robbing Peter to pay Paul; in this case Peter and Paul just happen to be the same person.
Cars more expensive less safe
The rich can buy any car they want
The sheer stupidity of this statement is incredible.
He’ll turn us into Cuba with old old cars carefully preserved because no one can afford a new one.
He’ll turn us into Cuba with old old cars carefully preserved because no one can afford a new one.
Hell turn us into Cuba with old old cars carefully preserved because no one can afford GAS for a new one.
Yep, he already is. I’m still driving my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee ‘Laredo’, in pristine condition, w/ 389k on it. New engine, tranny, brakes, AC evaporator, heater core, 2 batteries, 3 new sets of tires. Can’t afford a new one, but I’ve already spent more than it’s worth, by KBB. I wanted a new Chevy Suburban, GMC Acadia or Jeep GC, but after the corrupt union bailout scam, I’ll look to Ford now, someday, when I can afford a new unit.
This administration, like the left in general, has become all about image, with no concern about substance. These are the people that believe that truth does not exist and reality can be what they "want" it to be.
The Gods of the Copybook Headings by Rudyard Kipling
As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.
We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.
We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place;
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.
With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.
When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “Stick to the Devil you know.”
On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “The Wages of Sin is Death.”
In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “If you don’t work you die.”
Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began:
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!
He and his hatred of markets SUCK! I want Romney to repeal this along with Obamugabecare.
