Romney says abortion legal for mother's health DONNA CASSATA August 27, 2012 6:43 PM EDT Copyright 2012 Lubbock Online. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Republican Mitt Romney says he is in favor of abortion in cases of rape, incest and thehealth and life of the mother.

The presidential candidate's addition of the health of the mother is certain to raise questions about Romney'sposition among conservatives. Health can be broadly defined and, in fact, running mate Paul Ryan has challenged the health exception as a major loophole.

Romney commented in an interview Monday with CBS News. The network released Romney's comments before its evening broadcast.

Romney's position on abortion rights has evolved. When he ran for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, he backed abortion rights. As a presidential candidate, he has opposed abortion rights and says the Supreme Court should reverse the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

Romney has already begun his attack on grass roots conservatives. His staff is proudly behind the RNC rule changes. They have removed committee members and replaced them with Romney appointed delegates. He will make sure the Tea Party and any other conservative movement will not have any influence. It makes me wonder just how much damage he can do in 8 years. No I don’t believe Obama and Romney are the same. If Romney really loved this country he would not have been behind the attacks on Sara Palin so he could run in 4 years. It is OK to help betray your Country for your ego?

This is classic Mitt, say one thing, do another.

We're dealing with a colossal, determined liar here.

He has done this all of his career.

Anyone believing that they are going to be able to hold Mitt's feet to the fire where conservatism is concerned is "whistling past the graveyard".

All you have to remember is him lying about how the Supreme Court of MA made him implement Gay Marriage when anyone with a 4th grade reading comprehenshion can read the Massachusetts Constitution and know that where matters of marriage are concerned, it is explicitly spelled out that they have to originate in the Legislature, NOT the Supreme Court.

This is what Mitt does, he lies about being a conservative or even a Republican and then finds a way to do what is non-conservative or even Non-Republican.

THere is going to be Hell to pay where Conservatism is concerned and the GOP.

Mittens said it - here's the video (see about 43 seconds in):

Now you've done it, you've confused them with proof of the truth.

Wait until he starts talking about amnesty in some form.

It's going to be hilarious watching the Romney supporters make excuses for him and tell us all how they are going to keep his feet to the fire.

God Bless you and your entire family. It is so good to see good folks on here. I mean there are many but SOME here are conservative when convenient.

Well we know most of the Romney supporters here on FreeRepublic are just that.

>> Romney is telegraphing what he personally believes.

The telegraph was sent a long time ago, and anyone that believes the message has changed is deluding themselves.

The facts are the boy is in favor of abortion and homosexual marriage. Nothing has changed, and we shouldn’t expect it to change.

Regardless of Romney’s betrayal of Life, both Life and Liberty have better odds with 3 Republican Houses.

Take a look at the convention schedule. It will close with a prayer by La Raza pal Rev Samuel Rodriguez.

>>In a historic week for Immigration Reform in America, Rev. Can someone please tell Mitt to SHUT UP on this abortion issue! Drop it! Stop talking about it! Wait for the debates and answers it simply then?

There Are far more important issues to talk about, any reporter or liberal who brings up abortion should be told they have been told too many times, and that other issues of a currently relevant nature need attention

Where is the evidence that the President's preference on abortion has an effect on the number of abortions? In fact, the evidence indicates otherwise!

ALL: Note that Sam Paine -- above this comment -- ran a chart for only U.S. abortions...as if presidential policy has no impact upon U.S. taxpayer-paid-for abortions overseas!

Sam, stop embarrassing yourself -- and do some research -- on the "Mexico City policy" which was implemented by Ronald Reagan -- and re-implemented under Bush.

Reagan & Bush were able to impact our taxpayer $ going toward the foreign abortion industry by squelching funds going to them.

Now, to be fair, Romney has said he would re-implement this...so, in reality, this is one apparent genuine distinction between pro-abort Romney and pro-abort Obama.

Just don't try to pretend that a POTUS has no impact on abortions...because just as the Mexico City policy has effected U.S. involvement in the dismemberment of foreign babies, likewise there's ALL kinds of ways a POTUS can influence funding -- or lack of it -- going to the AMERICAN abortion industry.

And on this, all ya gotta know is that Romney left a Planned Parenthood rep on the permanent oversight board for MA RomneyCare. (That tells you how "pro-life" he was -- after his supposed "pro-life" "conversion" in late 2004...) Also, RomneyCare has gone from $50 taxpayer funded abortions in MA to -- in some cases -- paying for 100% of abortions...and these go beyond the court-ordered abortions for "exceptions" that MA had to obey.

You've been posting that nonsense for that long -- without any FREEPERs calling you on it?

Ya know, ignorance is fine...after all, we're all ignorant 'bout somethin'...

But the key is to know what you're ignorant about...so that you don't try to export it.
