Weather Channel Goes Political
NewsBusters ^ | P.J. Gladnick

There is a sixty percent chance that Republicans will rain on your weekend plans.

The Weather Channel hasn't yet gone quite that far to inject politics into weather reporting but they sure seem to be working on it. Their reporting on Tropical Storm Isaac has brought out the inner liberal of a channel that was once noted for its complete professionalism but, sadly, seems to be going off into political tangents completely unrelated to the weather. In the first example, they republish a highly biased Associated Press article on their Weather Channel site which touches on Tropical Storm Isaac but quickly devolves into not so subtle slams on Republicans. While reading this, you need to continuously pinch yourself as a reminder that it is actually on The Weather Channel website:

Wasn’t the Founder of the Weather Channel an outspoken critic of the global warming scare? Probably left before the NBC buyout.

I stopped when they broadcast everything but the weather. Then that Dr. Heidi Cullen took over and it was all she wrote for me.

I use TWC apps on my computer, iPhone and iPad.

I saw that a few weeks back, that weather underground was bought by the stupid weather channel. I have a personal weather station that posts to weather underground. Anyone have a good suggestion for a replacement?

When Houston was flooded by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Allison, they were over 4 hours behind in their reports. And if I recall, the weather advisories were "for the next 15 minutes".

Worst urban flood in US history.

A weather channel sounds good on paper but reality is a different thing.

A real humanitarian, that Fidel.

Didn’t the WC and Algore warn us about giant hurricanes due to AGW?

Why is Isaac a pissant Cat 1?

Thanks

In the fall of 2007, he described the current concern over global warming as “a fictional, manufactured crisis, and a total scam.”[2][3][4] Critics of Colman’s have questioned his lack of academic credentials, journalism degree, and charge that he has not conducted actual research in the area of climate change. [5][6][7] [8] In 2008, Coleman gave a speech to the San Diego Chamber of Commerce blaming the “global warming scam” and environmentalist lobby, for rising gas and food prices. He also declared the scam “a threat to our economy and our civilization.”

Coleman has also made appearances on CNN, Fox News Channel and on the Showtime program, Penn & Teller: Bullshit!, to share his global warming views. Coleman recently published an article entitled “The Amazing Story Behind the Global Warming Scam”[10] in which he promotes the idea that many scientists and politicians have been embroiled in fraudulent activity based on incomplete science and a political motive for a world government. Coleman says the genesis of the global warming movement was the claims of scientist Roger Revelle, an early mentor of Al Gore.

In January 2010, Coleman produced a special report for KUSI-TV, entitled Global Warming: The Other Side, in which he forwards his view on Global Warming as a scam—and lays out what he believes to be evidence of a deliberate manipulation of world temperature data by NASA and others.

Weather Underground bought by Weather Channel

Okay, but that's not the Weather Underground -- not Bill Ayers's Weather Underground.

Or else NBC is even more rotten than any of us could have imagined ...

Because it isn’t inflating due to media hype no matter how badly they want it to.

I was watching this morning and one of their weather babes on some beach somewhere said the following:

(paraphrasing but real close): While the Republicans will be celebrating, people will be suffering in Louisiana.

I came as close as I’ve ever come to throwing something at the TV.

Sorry, but big DUH! MSNBC is the only “news” station used by them and they cut into it more and more. Who owns the WeatherChannel?
