Despite being outraised by his opponent, Flake, a six-term congressman, had seen strong backing from both establishment and tea party Republicans in his quest to win the open seat soon to be vacated by retiring Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl....

SO...can any of our Arizona friends tell us if these are good results or not? I have no idea. Jeff Flake won for Senate nominee - expected I gather. But what about the Congressional primaries? The 9th district looks especially interesting with the winner having just 23%!

I don't remember seeing another primary with no postings here, so figured I'd post this because I'm curious to learn if there were any establishment/TeaParty battles, and if so...who won??

It's weird...so far as I can tell the AZ Secretary of state doesn't post election results - or at least I couldn't find them. They're on AZCentral.com - but we can't link to that here on FR!

9 had five or six legitimate candidates. The apparent winner, Vernon Parker, is the former mayor of Paradise Valley. A strong conservative who happens to be black. He’d be a welcome partner to Allen West in kicking some ass at the Congressional Black Caucus.

The district is a competitive one, unlike most in Arizona, and he’ll have a fight on his hands in November.

When I went to vote in Maricopa at about 6:15 pm, I was the lone voter surrounded by about a dozen poll workers. I don’t know how the turnout overall was, but they sure seemed happy to see me. It’s sad, really.

An interesting side note is that the young lade who is filing this article for CNN is a former Fulbright scholarship recipient with research completed on the Armenian massacre. There is an interesting article about her here: http://www.baylor.edu/mediacommunications/news.php?action=story&story=58513

Here's Fox's link to statewide Arizona primary races:

My district, CD3 is currently represented by that communist/reconquista asswipe RAÚL GRIJALVA. His conservative opponent this time is GABRIELA SAUCEDO MERCER.

GOOD LUCK, Gabriela!!!

Yeah, given the alleged GOP-e and TEA agreement.

Freshman Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) defeated freshman Rep. Dan Quayle (R-AZ) (son of former VP Dan Quayle) in the primary for newly redistricted seat.

Despite Quayle having a heavy advantage in the redrawn district in former constituents count, he never got on message. Schweikert was more favored by Tea Party and had effective grassroots campaign and ran the ads painting Quayle as an establishment candidate.

Schweikert won with approximately 53% of the vote. This is a good result, IMO. It’s a safe Republican seat, so Schweikert should easily keep it.

Maybe Arizon is part of the United Stats along with Mississip and Nevad.

Let me state for the record that Schweikert is no relative. :)

My mother is there and I go home 4-5 times a year. As I understand, Flake was the strong choice to win the general, and the others weren’t.

Did you teach junior high school back in the 1970s? I had an English teacher named Isabel back in the 7th grade and if any one of us handed in a paper with a spelling error, she would make us go up to the blackboard and spell the word out until we got it right.

We went through a lot of chalk and erasers that year.

Jeff Flake and Wil Cardon ran a horrible negative mud-slinging series of ads about who sucked more. In the end I’m glad Flake won. Trent Franks won easily against his opponent, which is great because good people like him are my argument against term limits. Sheriff Joe Arpaio ran unopposed by any Republican and should win easily (again). My polling place was similarly deserted, which made my vote count that much more. I signed up to be a poll worker so I should be able to watch for skullduggery in November.

“Yeah, given the alleged GOP-e and TEA agreement.”

What is this supposed to mean?

Good for you—I wish more FReepers (who live in areas where it would help prevent Vote Fraud) would do this.

I live in Maryland where anyone can show up at the polls and claim to be anybody. As long as they know a registered person’s (whether living in-state, dead, alive or in between—or even a ficticious “person”) name address & Date of Birth, they can vote using that name. There’s no checking of any kind allowed basically.

I looked into the possibility of volunteering to be a poll-watcher in Pennsylvania where the new Photo-ID law will be in effect, but was told I’d have to be a resident of the precinct in which I was a poll-watcher; so that’s ruled out.

Is Arizon part of that land mass between Los Angeles and New Orleans?

I live in Nine, and I was pretty pi$$ed when I saw the new map. The District includes liberal haven Tempe and also the most of central Phoenix, all the way up to Sunnyslope. I fear for the General in November. This District appears to be drawn for Dems.

According to the Mojave Valley News FR’s own Hildy won her primary contest for a County Supervisor spot against incumbent Tom Sockwell, No results were given.

She doesn’t have an opponent in the general.
