Missouri Republican Todd Akin is vowing to continue his Senate campaign, though the question increasingly is: to what purpose? His continuing candidacy is harming the social-conservative wing of the GOP that he claims to be defending.
Mitt Romney and other Republican officials sensibly disavowed the Congressman after his recent comment that "legitimate rape" can be a contraceptive. For Mr. Romney, this was something of a Sister Souljah moment—not that he's getting much media credit for it. But rather than leave the race to another Republican who might be able to win, Mr. Akin has since cast himself as a pro-life martyr. He's blaming "party bosses" who he claims don't really care about the sanctity of life the way he does.
He's also received some unfortunate cover from Mike Huckabee, the talk show host and former Arkansas Governor, who wrote in an email to supporters: "Is this what the party really thinks of principled pro-life advocates? Do we forgive and forget the verbal gaffes of Republicans who are 'conveniently pro-life' for political advantage, but crucify one who truly believes that every life is sacred?"

Now if he had designed it that way, we may be saying, "what a great politician". But since, by every measure, he merely stumbled and flipped the bench that threw the bucket, that hit the cat and made him jump, that scared the old maid, that dropped her cain, that hit the cow and made her kick, that kicked the wall, that knocked the kerosene lantern onto the floor, that broke and lit the house on fire, that burned down Chicago... ya, you'd ask that guy to leave.
Akin isn’t a victim of anything other than a self inflicted wound. The victims here are the voters of the state of Missouri. Between Akin, the NRSC and other such entities, and every one on our side that keeps picking at the open sore, it is an unnecessary uphill struggle for us.
Todd Akin took a setup question and fumbled it at the 1 yard line.
The tea party is like any other other party, it is not homogeneous on all things. It came together to thwart the big threat against all freedoms, Barbra Obama. On smaller issues we will differ. Let there be a battle for the control of the Republican party... it can only be good. At least we still have to freedom to pursue such things. Romney is all we got. Remember how Bush tried to push through Immigration reform, basically amnesty, we stopped him cold. Get Romney elected, then we can proceed to have the fights that need to be have. This whole thing with delegates is stupid anyway... why have a candidate with delegates who don’t support him, if the whole reason for having an election is to beat the other party’s candidate.
And Jaco who is not a friend of conservatives who is always ready to pounce on anything a conservative says hardly missed a beat when he made his statement.
Political scientists and PR specialists who know Missouri were saying the next day that what he expressed is the standard prolife belief and position in the state of Missouri. Everybody in Missouri knows that.
What they also now know is that this whole kerfuffle was contrived to get rid of Akin and the people of Missouri don't like it when it is outsiders who do the contriving.

If I were a Missouri resident, I would have to vote for the guy because of who he is running against. That said, he’s still a loser in my book.

I have lived all my life in Missouri. The first time I ever heard/read the phrase 'legitimate rape' came that night when the Akin interview got posted. AND I had never heard before that a woman's body could prevent a pregnancy due to stress released hormones.
I'm pro-life and I have as much opposition to abortion being used as birth control as I do to Oromney care, wherein a advisory counsel determines IF old American grandmothers should get a 'pill instead of a procedure'. Life is not one single issue of requiring a full term pregnancy wherein a baby sucks in its first breath.
You nor Akin speak for the majority of Missourians when it comes to being 'pro-life'. And by your own words Akin was not forcibly placed in front of Jaco. AND all political scientists and PR specialists know that for any candidate in a state wide election to win they must get those Frank Luntz 'independents'.
