Fresno County Woman Stops Kidnapping By Pulling Gun on Home Intruder

Fresno County sheriff's deputies are looking for a man in connection to a burglary and attempted kidnapping.

It happened just after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Maple between South and Manning. Deputies say a woman and her two-year old daughter heard a window break in the back of her home. They saw a man in his 20's, who then broke in, stole some merchandise and tried to kidnap the child.

In California, this woman would almost certainly be denied a carry permit to protect her child in public places.

Look, for all of its faults, there are large swaths of CA that are sane and reasonable.

I believe you’re thinking of douche bags like the LA County Sheriff, a pure political hack who only issues permits to the well connected and celebrity.

The rural county Sheriffs are pretty good at issuing permits. From what I know, my Sheriff in Kern County doesn’t have any problems with them. If I recall correctly, a gun safety course, the CCW course, pay the tribute and she’s done.

Now that she’s had this incident, it should be even easier because she’s unfortunately, been the victim of a crime.

I lived in California for seven years and loved it. One of my favorite trips was driving up the coast from Los Angeles to Carmel. The scenery was beautiful and it was fascinating to meet Californians in small towns along the way. People shouldn't judge the state only on Hollywood crackpots and San Francisco limousine liberals.

Lib reporters can’t call it property because that may conjure ‘property rights’ in the mind of the reader. Better to refer to the victm’s belongings as merchandise implying the criminal had rights to it also.

Was it Pelosi who stated that working Americans’ paychecks should be deposited directly in the Federal coffers and then they would decide how much we should get? That really is how they think it should be.

The problem with California is that too many people are on the dole — or some form of it. The very rich pensions are golden handcuffs that link the recipients to the Democrats. But the 39% that didn't vote for Obama tend to be very conservative Republicans, rather then moderates. I was stunned when I attended a meeting at of Beverly Hills Republicans and the NRA was discussed — positively! Coming from NYC, I am not used to even conservative republicans touching the gun issue.

My sister lives within sight of this crime and emailed me about it less then a hour after it happened. That stretch of Maple is small vineyards. A FRiend here in Eureka had his house and garage broken into over the weekend while he was out of town. They took several thousand dollars of equipment and personal items.

In CA, and yes I live here also, you are certainly allowed to shoot someone who breaks into your home. Just make sure they are inside and drop them in their tracks. Outside is not allowed unless they are actually holding a gun on you and then that is not always a certainty.

True in Fresno County but that action carries sever personal consequences. To avoid these consequences you must.

1) Be inside the house when the break-in occurs
2) Be reasonably certain¹ that the intruder was armed with a deadly² weapon at the time of the entry.

Breach these rules and you'll end up incarcerated or, if the intruder survives, loss of your premises through civil action.

¹ The weapon must be in the intruder's possession when law enforcement arrives
² A gun or a knife is a deadly weapon. A golf club or baseball bat is not. Best if the intruders finger prints are on the gun or the knife.
