Mitt’s Ham Handed Advisors Hurting Him with Conservatives
Conservative HQ ^ | 8/28/12 | Richard A. Viguerie

Posted on 08/29/2012 6:56:59 AM PDT by xzins

It seems like every time Governor Mitt Romney gets conservatives looking his way, his ham handed advisors and staff do something to weaken conservative support for his candidacy and drive away conservative leaders who could be rallying the troops for the fall election.

The latest unforced error on the part of the Romney organization involves an attempt by Washington election lawyer Ben Ginsberg, operating allegedly on behalf of the Romney campaign, to change the Republican Party rules. Ginsberg's changes would, among other things, allow the presidential campaigns to “fire” duly elected delegates to the National Convention.

This unprecedented power grab by the Washington-based insiders and consultants of the Romney campaign provoked outrage from state GOP leaders and activists across the country and threatened to upend Governor Romney’s carefully choreographed nomination in Tampa this week.

The controversy about this and other proposed rules changes -- including allowing Party bureaucrats to change the Republican Party Rules between Conventions, without a vote of delegates elected by the grassroots of the Party; and a plan to un-do the rules regarding the primary calendar that were designed to stop the trend toward front-loading the primary season and preserve the opportunity for grassroots Republicans across the country to have a say in who their presidential candidate would be -- prompted Virginia’s principled conservative Republican National Committeeman Morton Blackwell to organize a floor fight over the Rules changes.

Blackwell, a Romney delegate and substantial donor to the Romney campaign, said in a letter to fellow delegates, these are “rules changes that could fundamentally change our Republican Party -- and not for the better.”

Blackwell should know; he’s been a delegate to the Republican National Convention since the 1960s and is a member of the Republican National Committee’s Standing Committee on Rules and on the National Convention's Committee on Rules and Order of Business.

In a political party of millions of members, you can’t get every vote. Competing candidates and issues are what makes a party strong and brings new voters into the party as candidates and issues vie for support. This is something Team Romney has apparently never understood, as their half-hearted attempts to heal the Party after the hard-fought primary demonstrate.

We hope this kind of contempt for the grassroots of the Republican Party isn’t what Governor Romney really thinks of the millions of local GOP activists who are supposed to be out working for him this fall.

More to the point, if these undemocratic rules changes truly originated with Governor Romney, they speak very poorly of the character of a man seeking to lead the free world.

A president must lead, and presidential leadership -- particularly in matters of foreign affairs and dealing with the separate branches of our federal system of government -- involves persuasion, example and moral courage, not bullying.

If this is truly Governor Romney’s personal response to a few catcalls from the peanut gallery at the Republican National Convention, we wonder what he will do if Luxemburg and the Netherlands refuse to go along with some foreign policy of his, change the rules of NATO?

After Romney was recorded supporting abortion for health of the mother IN ADDITION TO "life of the mother", there isn't much that really needs to be said about his character.

If anyone gets protecting life wrong, then there is absolutely nothing they won't sell down the river.

Luxemburg & Netherlands are liberal, therefore.....

Advisers are an extension of the candidate, the candidate does not pick someone who does not echo their values.

As I’ve been saying Romney is just a white version of Obama, other than skin color there is no difference between the two in either policy, politics or their contempt of ordinary people. I’ll be voting for anybody but these two, unfortunately I’m in California so it really doesn’t matter anyway as all the idiots here will still give the CA elctorial votes to Obama.

My thoughts exactly - the word that came to mind was “thugs”. Who does that remind you of?

Romney and the GOP-e are no different in their lust to grasp and retain power than the Democrats. Complete purge or third party are the only choices for the future of the conservative message in America.

Two things about ABOs who claim they'll hold Romney's feet to the fire and win back the party after the election:

1. They are not effectively holding his feet to the fire: in just the past week he's come out for Romneycare again and also for a "health" exception in allowing abortions.

2. IF ROMNEY WINS: He will be the head of the party, his METHODS will be lauded as effective, he will install the leaders, and he will set the agenda.

IF ROMNEY LOSES: He and his will be shown to be losers, his methods will be proven totally illegitimate, the party will be in turmoil, the leadership will be shakey and defeatable.

Which scenario will provide the best opportunity for conservatives to change the power structure?

Which scenario will entrench liberal republicanism for decades?

It's that simple.

Right after fubocare was upheld, mcromney came right out and said that there were parts of this he wanted to keep..

That one slipped under the radar for most, but i caught it right away, and said he would “tweak” it...

Exactly this. "Anybody but Obama" is the mantra of the clueless who are still taken in by the shell game. In fact, I've heard rumours that the whole reason for an Obama one-term existence was specifically to condition conservatives to accept a Romney nomination and subsequent presidency - i.e. this has been the plan all along, and Obama is just a means to that end.

It's funny - I've asked these people who are convinced that Romney is significantly better than Obama on here a number of times: "What exactly do you think Romney would do differently from Obama, liberty-wise? Will Romney rein in the TSA overreaches? Will he halt the move by our own government towards regarding patriotic constitutionalists as 'domestic terrorists'? Will he put the brakes on the massive militarisation of all kinds of agencies (i.e. why does the NOAA have a SWAT team)? Will he roll back the unconstitutionalities in the PATRIOT Act? Will he roll back the unconstitutional gun laws? Will he work to repeal the misnamed Food Safety Act? Will he oppose the implementation of Agenda 21 in the USA? Will he throw out the ability of the government to arrest American citizens and hold them indefinitely without a trial?

No answer has been forthcoming from any of these "Anybody but Obama" people.

You know why? Because these people know that the answer to all of these questions and many more is "No. Romney will not do a blithering thing about any of these. And what's more, the reason he won't is because he intends to use them, just like Obama has."

Frankly, I don't see the point to whining about shaving a few percentage points off the top marginal tax rate or who cut what from Medicare when we're going to end up more and more unfree until we eventually turn into a police state.

It would be great if people would learn the history of the Republican Party. It was always the liberal or left-wing Party, until Taft took over. TR thought Taft was too conservative so he ran against him on the Bull Moose Party so that Woodrow Wilson would be elected. Calvin Coolidge was a conservative but for only one term. Hoover was a progressive Republican who enacted a lot of policies that FDR expanded on.

Ike was not a conservative, in fact he almost ran as a Democrat. Nixon? He started price controls and the EPA.

Gerald Ford was probably the strongest pro-choice President before Obama. Another “moderate” Rockefeller Republican.

You have Goldwater who was a conservative, Reagan, and who else? Bush and Bush Jr were faux conservatives. Anyone who objectively looks at their tax and spending policies would have to call them RINOs.

Romney is probably the most conservative and smartest nominee since Reagan, especially with Paul Ryan on the ticket.

Romney's style is to vigorously attack conservatives and vigorously defend liberal.

Liberal scribbler Matthew Dowd (brother of Her Who Must Not Be Named 'Coz I Don't Have a CZJ Grafix) thinks Romney really needs to create a "Sistah Souljah" moment, where he can slap down some conservatives publicly, denounce his base publicly, loudly and forcefully, so the "last 350,000 undecided women in 10 battleground States" can finally get over his suck factor and vote for him.

Rush had something about this in yesterday's transcript. The liberal/RiNO wing really does not like ordinary conservative GOPsters. I mean really.

If you elect Romney, the Republican Party becomes his and conservatives will have no party in which to be active. They can’t even become a delegate to the national convention because Romney will have the power to pick them himself.

Not so much that I recall. Republicans were not so willing to go a 3rd party route or to take over the republican party.

That came about with the tea party.

Through McCain’s time, as with others, I jumped on board because of Sarah Palin and fought to the bitter end, cringing at McCain’s unwillingness to fight and his willingness to be stupid, as with the sky-is-falling financial “crisis”.

It was right afterwards that I left the republicans.

Absolutely, felt the exact same.

“It was right afterwards that I left the republicans.”

Around then I started drinking Tea.

But I think fighting the Rinos inside the RNC from within is a better strategy.

We conservative are not doing so well right now, but going 3rd party right now is, imho, a losing proposition, as it gives Obama the chance TO PUT HIS JUDGE(s) ON THE SCOTUS.

Talk about giving the opposition the chance to make permanent and dangerous “rule changes”...

I am also curious what people know about Ben Ginsberg. I checked his bio (admittedly on Wikipedia) and it mentions that he used to work with Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

“but it was a coux— first one I ever saw on live tv.”

I know my mouth fell open when Boehner intentionally called that vote wrong. Where is the check on a moderator when he does that on purpose? If we don't have honest people in positions of authority, we are done. We all know now Boehner can't be trusted to be honest. We have a deceitful Speaker of the House.

Republicans who definitely going to vote for Romney in order to remove Hussein, likely don't care what Boehner did. Nothing matters to them except vote for Romney even though they don't like him.

Well, we have gone past “don't like him”, we have arrived at Romney destroying the Republican Party and taking it for his own. He did a “Bain” on us. Set in place a way to “buy” the Republican Party (change the rules) and get rid of employees (conservatives) he doesn't want and put in his own people so he can control the whole thing - that's his “Bain” protocol, works every time.

My tag line is so true.
