RNC Bus Driver “Gets Lost” Forcing VA Delegates to Miss Crucial Rules Change Vote

RNC Bus Driver “Gets Lost” Forcing VA Delegates to Miss Crucial Rules Change Vote

Joel Griffith

An RNC bus driver transporting the Virginia delegation to the convention seemed to have lost his way to the destination yesterday. The delegation, led by long time conservative activist Morton Blackwell, was prepared to vote against the proposed rules change. However, the delay meant the Rules Committee meeting had adjourned prior to their arrival. Delegates remaining on board the bus were unable to participate in the proceedings.

In an age of GPS, cell phones, and other forms of instant information access, it is difficult to fathom how a professional bus driver finds it possible to remain lost for an hour in a city the size of Tampa. After all, the entire downtown area is only a few square miles! The frustration on the part of the delegates became apparent when some demanded to be dropped off in order to walk to the convention hall.

Speaker of the House John Boehner ruled the “ayes” won the voice vote on the proposed rules changes, a result which possibly could have been avoided had the Virginia delegation not been detained by the “lost bus.” These rules alter the structure of the Republican Party, by transferring power from grassroots activists to 100 RNC committeemen.

According to delegate Matt Dubin, an attorney and conservative activist, those supporting the changes ”disenfranchised grassroots conservatives everywhere – Liberty Republicans, Tea Party Republicans, supporters of Bachman, Santorum, Gingrich and Cain – anyone who is not already part of the power elite.”

Dubin, who supports Ron Paul, earned the respect of many Santorum supporters in the state of Washington in their mutual struggle against party corruption and deceptive tactics. As Matt Dubin states, “Those of us who have been working in the trenches over the past 6 years know firsthand the cheating, rules violations, deceptions and bully tactics used to silence our voices. Today the whole world saw them for themselves. The insider establishment would like nothing better than for us to give up and walk away. They still think they can win without us… But we are not going away, and our numbers are going to swell with grassroots conservatives who see what their leadership is doing to this party and to their voices…This is about ideas and values.”

If “of the people, by the people, and for the people” is an acceptable way to govern the nation, should we not maintain this principle within our own party?

“Tin hatters coming in... 3..2..1..”

I don’t know about that. I can’t speak for what happened in this instance, but I confess have participated in similar schemes in business and even during my military days. This sounds quite familiar actually...

While this could be conspiracy, arguing bus drivers don’t get lost, even when they are professional ones is naive.

2 Completely professional and well trained airbus pilots flew a completely functioning (with the exception of a blocked air speed indicator) and brand new plane into the ocean just a few years ago. Believing something is NOT POSSIBLE when humans are involved is naive.

Considering the rest of Romney's Obama style behavior, it shouldn't be any surprise.

This could be a coincidence. Or it could have been on purpose.

But could they have postponed the vote due to delegates having an emergency being lost...

It looks like the RNC Convention is a disaster from the very start. Ron Paul, Tea Party dissed, delegates not showing up. Who is running this mess?

Was the driver lost, or just off track? GPS also may not be of much good due to street closures and such. Making one bad turn can screw you up in a downtown area under normal circumstances (one way streets). I wouldn’t be too quick to holler conspiracy and demand the guys head on a platter

Not a complete disaster. Artura Davis and Mia Love gave very good speeches last night. Ann Romney and Chris Christie also did well.

But the rules fight, that was a power grab by the GOPe. Disgusting.

To make matters worse, after the voice vote, there were delegates who (by established rules) voiced an objection and called for a roll-call vote. By RNC rules, if there are objections after a voice-vote, they must conduct a roll call vote. Speaker Boehner (with Sununu in the background) ignored the objections and declared the rules had passed.

You just got a glimpse of Moscow politics....enjoy!!!!

Boehner was going to give that vote to Romney anyway. There were more Nos than Yeas, but he gave it to the Yeas anyway. Boehner is dishonest, everyone who saw/heard that vote knows it, and he needs to be removed as speaker.

Now, I have to say something about the busses. A friend owns a bus Company that is hired for the RNC. He said that he is getting busses and drivers from out of state.

It is hard for people in DOWNTOWN TAMPA to drive around (we live near the TB Times Forum), so if the VA people had an out of State driver, he could get lost.

The CA RNC people are at a hotel (The Hampton) near my office< so they can hope on the trolley to get there. Some of the others are in hotels 50 miles away!! (Florida is at Innisbrook Resort.)

It's been many years since I've been in downtown Tampa. I remember it as friendly, small, and quite lovely.

Is it actually possible for a bus to get lost for an hour in today's downtown Tampa?

Sorry, but I don’t buy it. There had to be at least one person there with an IPAD.

It seems just a bit convenient for everyone. The delegates can carry Romney’s water by simply blaming the bus driver, instead of having to anger their supporters. Being lost for an hour is a very long time...something was up.

It’s why I’m no fan of political Parties. They typically are in place to keep power for the political elite instead of giving power to the people.

Interesting video and perspective on this. Ronald Reagan would have never had a chance to rise in the ranks had this rule been in place which gave control to only the Party elite.
