Police say pickup truck driver shot bicyclist after crash, altercation at Telegraph, Northline roads
TAYLOR, Mich. -
A bicyclist who was shot after being involved in a traffic accident with a pickup driver in Taylor has died.
Taylor police say the bicyclist died during surgery after the Wednesday night incident with a 46-year-old driver.
Police said the two began arguing after the bicyclist disregarded a "Do Not Cross" signal at Telegraph and Northline roads, causing the driver to hit him. Witnesses said the bicyclist got up and confronted the driver.
"The pedestrian light was red. He wasn't supposed to be crossing and ran into the side of the truck," said witness Michelle Noffsinger. "He jumped up, he got up, and he ran around the front of the truck to the driver's side and he just started pounding on this guy. He hit him ... maybe seven times or so, and then the driver shot him and he fell to the ground. It was just really crazy."
Witnesses told police the driver pulled a pistol and fired one round at the bicyclist, striking him in the chest. The motorist stayed at the scene until police arrived. He is being held pending any charges.
Police said they are still trying to identify the bicyclist. He is described as a white man between 35 and 40 years old with gray hair. He was riding a 10-speed bike.
Anyone with information on the crash, shooting and the bicyclist's identity is asked to contact the Taylor Police Department.
Sounds like he got what he asked for.

Everyone driving a pickup has a gun, and the older guys will not get out and fight with you, they will just kill you.
While I realize a headline can only be so long, one must wonder why ‘they’ manage to mangle it and mislead the readers.
To read the headline, one would conjure up an image of a bicyclist being shot by a mean old pick up truck driver - AT LEAST it wasn’t an SUV - then ‘they’ could have thrown in Assault Weapon.
This society raised on sound bites and USA Today will never know that
A., the bicyclist caused the accident and
B. the bicyclist assaulted the driver and
C. the driver was apparently acting in self defense - NOT the suggested aggressor.
hmmmm, white, 35-40, riding a bicycle yet disobeying traffic laws, blaming everyone else for his mistakes. One less liberal voter.

Also, bikes on the road are supposed to follow “road rules” not “pedestrian rules” - although a number of vehicle drivers and bike riders don't know that.
Liberals ride their bikes with total disregard for motorists thinking that because they’re “saving the environment” they have the right of way at all times.

I’m sorry the bicyclist ended getting shot for his idiocy, but bicyclists not obeying stop and other traffic signs is common where I live. I’m willing to bet a lot of money that the great majority of cyclists sail through stop signs (and many time traffic lights) without stopping. So while cyclists have rights, they also have responsibilities.

Note to self: Don't run to vehicle of someone with whom you have a dispute and start hitting them through the driver's side window (or any window for that matter).
