Akin regains lead in Missouri latest polling shows

WASHINGTON, DC, August 29, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A poll of likely Missouri general election voters released this morning shows that, far from being out of the race, embattled Senate candidate Todd Akin has regained his lead over Senator Claire McCaskill by a 45% to 42% margin, with 13% undecided.

The survey conducted by Wenzel Strategies commissioned by Family Research Council Action also shows Akin leading by 10 points among independent voters.

“Despite the firestorm of news in the Senate race over the past few weeks, most voters have already made up their mind in the race, the survey shows,” said Wenzel Strategies pollster Fritz Wenzel. “The fact that 80% said they were firm in their choice certainly indicates that this is a race that will be decided more by ideology and turnout efforts by the campaigns and less by breaking news that flashes across the news pages and cable news channels.”

Wenzel also observed that “McCaskill holds a 58% lead over Akin among very liberal voters, but that pales compared to Akin’s 81% to 5% lead among very conservative voters in Missouri.”

Family Research Council Action PAC Chairman Tony Perkins was unequivocal in his support for Akin. “Throughout his career, Todd Akin has consistently fought for legislation that honors marriage, human life, religious freedom, and national security,” he said.

“He also has a long record of opposing the commodification of women - in stark contrast to his opponent and liberal detractors, who promote groups like Planned Parenthood while ignoring how abortion harms them.”

Perkins noted that McCaskill has supported taxpayer funding for abortion on demand. “She came to the Senate claiming to govern from the center but has instead been a steadfast supporter of President Obama and his liberal policies,” he said.

The Family Research Council telephone poll was conducted by Wenzel Strategies from Aug. 27 to Aug. 28, testing 829 voters for a margin of error of plus or minus 3.38 percent. The sample was 32.7 percent Democrats, 34.1 percent Republicans and 33.2 percent independents.

The GOP hierarchy is a gaggle of weasels!

They have been effectively backing McCaskill by attacking Todd Akin. Go Todd!

I thought Akin was toxic. Maybe I was wrong.

I hope Huckabee and his followers can get him enough money.

Given the choice to stand with a genuine God-fearing conservative stalwart, or a moderate limp-wristed republican, I'll stand with the conservative every time, win or lose. But I have to say, it feels good to win now and then.

Todd Akin on the Issues

That feels good.

Might want to have the headline font in a smaller case. It will make the words easier to swallow for some here on FR.

Republicans running away instead of standing to fight will be the image that stays in my mind about this whole affair.

YEP. The GOP hierarchy were absolutely speechless about this turn of events including their mouthpieces on this forum. It was nice to have a quiet day.

People posting the same useless poll (paid for by one of Akin's "biggest supporters" as noted yesterday) over and over doesn't make it true. No one can honestly believe McCaskill has only a 58% lead over Akin amongst liberals. Which is more likely, liberal Democrats suddenly believe that a conservative should be elected, or liberal Democrats are saying they'll vote for Akin so he doesn't drop out?

Akin is toxic ... he is poison to every flamin' liberal out there! His passion is for those who cannot speak for themselves. His choice of words just gave the media some red meat to try and destroy him.

A guy just came in to work this morning stating that "Todd Akin said homosexuality could be cured with mothers breast milk."

The loons absolutely hate Akin.

Yeah, but he said something totally absurd ONE time (just guessing it was one) thus negating (can I use a word with “neg” in it and not be labeled racist?) anything positive he ever did. On the other hand we have that pillar of the community kuhlair muchasskle (any distant relation to Eddie Hasskle?) who will hopefully lose. If we got rid of politicians because they say something stupid, how in the he!! did we end up with joe biden one heartbeat from the presidency? This clown suffers from hoof in mouth disease and no one takes notice. What?????

Helping keep mankind warm for 65 years.

You're not from Missouri, are you?

McCaskill has her lips attached to Obama's rear end!

Well I’d love to be proven wrong about Akin (that he’s an idiot) and about this race (that he can’t win). I’ll be the first here to say that I was an idiot for writing him off if he pulls this off.

Having said that, is the + 3 Republican breakdown of those polled a good split? In the very pro-GOP 2010 cycle, wasn’t Missouri even between Republicans and Democrats?

And how many debates are scheduled? I still fear that Akin might say something else stupid, or that he’s the one guy the dim-witted McCaskill can out-debate. Well, actually she only needs to not get wiped out in a debate for the media to declare her the winner of the debate.

I can believe it. I wonder if he has the same effect on the 65% of Republicans who didn't vote for him in the primary.

If a politician doesn’t say or do something stupid, the media will make it up.

Remember the congressman from Ohio they went after a few years ago for wearing a nazi uniform.... in WWII re enactments?

I was one of those reluctant naysayers. If he can win this, then I will eat crow.

Just dont say anything else stupid, Akin.

lol. That is for sure. I am sure that they are going to try and find some dirt on Ryan, but it will not work as he and Romney are pretty squeeky clean.
