Romney's Big Night
Townhall.com ^ | August 30, 2012 | Hugh Hewitt

His "whole life has prepared him for this moment – to meet serious challenges in a serious way, without excuses and idle words. After four years of getting the run-around, America needs a turnaround, and the man for the job is Governor Mitt Romney."

When Paul Ryan declared this last night he reiterated what Ann Romney had declared the night before.

Together these two speeches have prepared the ground for Mitt Romney to accept the nomination of the GOP and to make his opening argument to the American people: That he is ready to take over for this failed president and to launch a renewal of the American economy and thus the American position in the world.

For Barack Obama and all the Chicago Gang everything is about politics.

For Mitt Romney, it is about solving problems.

Fox News Channel's James Rosen said Romney is a "singularly determined guy," on the O'Reilly Factor Wednesday night and that is what has got to come through on the television tonight --that he knows what threatens the country and that he will take on those enormous problems and solve them as opposed to avoid them as President Obama has assiduously done for four years.

The smoking ruins of the Obama presidency are so immense that they cannot be minimized when they are looked at, so the strategy of Team Obama, working hand-in-glove with large swaths of the Manhattan-Beltway media elite, is to do everything possible to avoid having the public focus on these immense failures.

The first three days of the GOP convention has been full of attempted diversions from the left: The heartlessness of the GOP for proceeding with their convention as Isaac neared shore; the treatment of a camera woman; the alleged GOP disappointment with Chris Christie.

This last meme is a MSM creation that took the grumblings of a handful of the envious and amplified them. Absurd. Christie turned in a very good speech that hit exactly the right note with his challenge on whether or not America will choose a "second American Century". Lefty pundits professed disappointment with Christie which meant Christie hit home with his blunt talk about a president led by polls.

What matters most is what Ohio governor John Kasich demonstrated when he slammed down his wallet on the desk that separated him and Sean Hannity Tuesday night. It remains an election about the economy, and Mitt Romney's appeal to the American people is that he can dispel the gloom brought about by Obamanomics and engage the amazing engines of the private sector.

Ann Romney's appeal to voters was to trust her husband to do so and to extend that trust not because of his words.

America is in the jam it is because it trusted the words of a candidate. That is not what Ann Romney argued.

She argued that Mitt Romney has done this before --in the private sector, with the Salt Lake Games, and with Massachusetts.

Mitt Romney has indeed conducted turn arounds before, and the circumstances he accepted were often dire. Tonight he gets to tell the American people that this country can turn around and that he can lead that change. His wife and his running mate have primed the country to hear this message. If Mitt Romney follows through on the opening they have created, Barack Obama will only see his back from here forward.

The foreign national could still easily win a 2nd term for the simple fact the GOP really screwed up picking Romney. He ain’t the man that can do it. Ryan should have been the pick. You have a LOT of people unemployed right now, a LOT without health insurance, which is exactly how the foreign national wants it because those people spell desperation, and it is going to be very difficult to convince them to vote for a mega rich guy from Assachussets over government assistance. I don’t know what the hell the GOP was thinking when they picked Romney.

Ryan should have been the pick.

Ryan didn't run. Last I checked, in modern presidential politics, you have to win a bunch of primaries to win the nomination, you aren't just picked at the convention like the old days.

Did Mrs. Romney tell the GOP how proud she was of Bishop Willard when he signed both the Romney-Care Socialized heath and Gay Marriage laws?

I am NOT a Romney fan, but I believe that he is the ONLY person that can turn this economy around. For those who do not get it, “IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID”

STOP IT! Romney is NOT an ideal candidate, but he IS what we have to deal with. If we are to DEFEAT Obama we must stand UNITED. If you don't care, then just shut up, and just vote the down ballot.

I think Ann Romney’s speech will turn out to be as effective, if not more so, than any other convention speech.

I think women tuned in. Women we might not expect to tune in. Many of them may have made a special effort to watch her just to see what dress she would wear. Many may have been truly interested in issues, and perhaps even some liberal women will have watched hoping she would screw up. But I believe women watched her speech, in greater numbers than we might imagine.

What did they see? What did they hear?

Well for one thing, what they saw was unabashed femininity. At first, I saw some giddiness, and some girlish laughter that I wasn’t sure I liked. Then, as the speech went on, I realized her femininity was becoming, refreshing, apropriate, and exciting to see on that stage. Oh, and what a contrast with angry, women-as-victims females we see on the other side of the aisle. Michelle Obama? Hillary Clinton?

Here’s the line that I think hit home: “Do we really want to raise our children to be afraid of success?”

We all know we pretty much have the mom vote in our camp, but this statement had to have an effect on all the young women out there who someday want to have children. Ann Romney’s question to them had to have had an effect. A cathartic effect perhaps.

Oh, and she was absolutely gorgeous, no small thing, that.

Liberals Call For Ann Romney To Be Murdered…

Keepin’ it classy.

Via Red Alert Politics:

First there was a “Kill Mitt Romney” and a “Kill Paul Ryan” Facebook page, both of which have since been taken down, but liberals have taken to Twitter in the wake of Ann Romney’s speech at the Republican National Convention calling for her death.

The tweets were first noticed early this morning by a blogger with Pundit Press.

A Twitter poster named Gregory Martinez tweeted how his desire to murder Ann Romney, saying: “I want to murder Ann Romney right now. NO PATRIOT ACT!!! #RNC”

While other posters such as an Ashley Miller urged the wife, mother and cancer survivor to commit suicide.

“Ann Romney, go kill yourself,” Miller wrote in her Twitter feed. Her sentiments were joined in by an individual identified simply as Connor, who wrote; “Ann romney: Kill yourself.”

Their calls were joined by poster JERSEY Omerta OO7 who asked: “Why does Ann Romney act like an average mom? B**ch kill yourself, you had maids take care of your f***ing kids.”
