Federal court rejects Texas voter ID law Updated 11:14 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal court has ruled against a Texas law that would require voters to present photo IDs to election officials before being allowed to cast ballots in November.

A three-judge panel in Washington ruled Thursday that the law imposes "strict, unforgiving burdens on the poor" and noted that racial minorities in Texas are more likely to live in poverty.

The decision involves an increasingly contentious political issue: a push, largely by Republican-controlled legislatures and governor's offices, to impose strict identification requirements on voters.

Votes are state control, aren’t they?

Texas is subject to the voting requirements of the civil rights act.

My considered opinion is that SCOTUS has no legal standing in the matter.

Well, yeah, there’s that AND the ruling should keep those ID-less dirtbags out of an Obamuzzie speech also.

Texas, secede now. Your citizens have been rendered second class citizens by the voting rights act. Your citizens no longer have an equal voice in their government as their Yankee brethren. The Constitution no longer applies to you. You're carrying an spiteful and ungrateful nation on your great shoulders.

Time to leave.

Impeach these judges.

It's not going to happen. People should really stop ranting about impeaching this politician, or that judge, etc. Much as they probably deserve it, it is NEVER going to happen. There is not, for generations to come probably, going to be 2/3rds of the Senate to uphold impeaching any liberal judge or politician. No one is going to be impeached over dopey decisions like this. It's just not going to happen.

The Supreme Court already ruled that voter ID is OK in Indiana. What is the justification for this panel to rule otherwise?

Heaven forbid you have to prove who you are before voting. The fix is in!! Illegals and dead people will vote in record numbers come Nov. The military will get screwed out of their votes, and the Dems will laugh their asses off at the Tea Party and everyone else who actually thought things would change.

Well on a positive note, it’s Texas. No amount of voter fraud in the world would result in an Obama win there...

but the DemocRats realize that Texas is the 2nd largest state in the U.S. and full of illegals which could make it a pivotal state if he grants more amnesty to illegals (he should be impeached for that alone; any other president would have)

You need a photo ID to get a library card!

So the vote is less secure than you borrowing a copy of 50 Shades of Gray?

To answer my own question, the ruling appears here (8/30/2012)

https://ecf.dcd.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/Opinions.pl?2012

Link to the ruling

https://ecf.dcd.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/show_public_doc?2012cv0128-340

and the names of the activist judges that the MSM were trying to withhold

TATEL, Circuit Judge, and COLLYER and WILKINS, District Judges.

Two of the three judges:

Robert Wilkins — appointed in 2010 by Baraq Hussein Obama.
David Tatel — appointed by William Jefferson Blythe in 1994.

Third one, Rosmary Collyer appointed by W in 2002.

I will bet it was a 2:1 ruling.

This decision may finally allow a reasonable possibility of overturning the Voting Rights Act under the Equal Protection Clause. Citizens of Texas and other states subject to the Voting Rights Act are being held to a different standard than citizens of non covered states.
