Dr. Scott Ferguson, assistant professor in the Department of Humanities & Cultural Studies at the University of South Florida, started an online petition that has garnered more than 500 supporters.
Following other colleges that have stopped serving Chick-fil-A on their campuses, University of South Florida students and faculty are being invited to sign an online petition to remove Chick-fil-A from the Marshall Student Center.

I’ve been connected with academia for several decades now.
One thing that I’ve always thought about is the idealized learning experience in higher education being one of openness, tolerance of viewpoints, and scholarly endeavors - or should be.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Higher education, especially in the liberal arts, and even a lot of the disciplines supposedly advanced by big liberal Ivy League schools is infested with close minded liberalism that practices ideological tyranny as if they invented it.
There is no dissent tolerated, and the viewpoints are stepping stones to rabid totalitarianism, the kind of which has created genocide on a massive scale in the past.

To quote Alinsky: “make them live by their own rules.” If religious bigotry is wrong (what they are accusing Chick-fil-a of), then religious bigotry against Chick-fil-a is also wrong.

I’d suggest a petition to disestablish the Department of Humanities & Cultural Studies and shift the resultant savings to the College of Engineering. But that’s just me.

A great budget cutting suggestion for USF: Cut the Department of Humanities & Cultural Studies. Obviously this department has no useful purpose and is a waste of student and taxpayer money.

Every year schools like this churn out thundering herds of near unemployable liberal and social studies majors.
Then we must read again of the terrible job market for specialists, like Black Womyns History Majors, while engineering jobs go begging for qualified candidates.
Of course, there are well known reasons why many of these types aren't engineering majors.

How about some students majoring in one of the academic programs that contribute to society organize a petition to keep Chick Fil-A! After all “Humanities and Cultural Studies” is code for communist and socialist, completely anti-conservative and anti-traditional.
Plus one of his listed specialty areas of study is Marxism.
I recall one of my college professors in a manditory core program and I having a rowe over an issue in a piece of literature. He was a pompous overbearing egotistic liberal jerk (on a good day) who said I could not see his point because I was an idiot. I retorted I expected such a comment from an ass..le and he replied I hope you don’t expect to pass this course.
I don’t recall exactly what the issue was but given how adament I was in my view, it most surely could have been a left verses right matter. Kept me off the deans list which really POed me. Fortunately I never ran into him outside of that class.

So I guess tenure even insulates these commie professors from punishment for violating the rights of people/organizations with which they disagree.
We have allowed our children to be brainwashed by communist union teachers in our public schools then we compound the problem by sending many to colleges/universities filled with these commie professors. We are doing this to ourselves.

Now with the education bubble and severe budget problems, except for administrators, it is time to cut programs. This should start with any programs named Studies and end with journalism in the initial phase. After these cuts I would start with any that begin with basket and are part of athletic programs until we are back to a real education.
