Posted on 08/30/2012 11:53:02 AM PDT by nickcarraway
Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign toasted its top donors Wednesday aboard a 150-foot yacht flying the flag of the Cayman Islands.
The floating party, hosted by a Florida developer on his yacht "Cracker Bay," was one of a dozen exclusive events meant to nurture those who have raised more than $1 million for Romney's bid.
"I think it's ironic they do this aboard a yacht that doesn't even pay its taxes," said a woman who lives aboard a much smaller boat moored at the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina.
Romney's Cayman-based investments have come under fire during the campaign.
The event, attended by no more than 50 people, along with Romney relatives, including older brother Scott, appeared on no public calendars. ABC News obtained a schedule of the Romney campaign's "Victory Council" and waited dockside to speak with members.
"It was a really nice event. These are good supporters," said billionaire Wilbur Ross, an energy industry executive.

Willard, a man of the people....
So what? Lots of yachts are flagged in other countries.
And yet 20 to 35 million illegal immigrants who can’t support themselves coming across our borders probably doesn’t bother this ass at all.
It must really piss Leftists off when they see people who actually support themselves and aren’t breaking our nation’s laws.
The solution is to make the US tax system more competitive.
Notice they do no mention John Kerry’s yacht...
Damned rich people - now I see why Obama wants to take their money away and give it to us poor folks - Obama is my hero........
But Romney will never diddle an intern in the Oval Office.
Google the flag of Bermuda. Note the color.
Google the flag of Cayman Islands. Note the color.
look at the flag on the yacht in this pic.
Feel silly? ;-)
Doesn't bother Romney either.
IT WASN’T HIS YACHT, for cryin out loud.
I heard that they made a mistake identifying the flag and it was really a Bahama’s flag?
Did Lurch ever pay the taxes due on his to the state of MA?
I agree. Our tax code chases people overseas.
ABC is not bothered by the son of a foreigner usurping the office of President of The United States.
But a flag, oh man, that’s a real problem.
Obama’s “party yacht” flies the Air Force One logo.
It buzzes Manhattan to liven up our lives.

Just sayin’ ... this has been OOPSIED for days.
Indeed. See post #18.
Haven't heard a word about it... go figure.
Wasn't there a bill passed in the first two years of the Clinton administration which imposed a hefty tax on yachts?
As I recall, it raised almost none of the projected revenue because the one American company in Connecticut which built yachts decided to move operations out of the country as did most of the owners who registered yachts.
Left a similar cooment on abc’s website,,,don’t see it posted yet, or the moderator scrubbed it....

"There is no controlling legal authority that says this was in violation of law."
-- Al Gore, seven times (in one form or another), White House news conference, March 3
"Controlling legal authority." Whatever other legacies Al Gore leaves behind between now and retirement, he forever bequeaths this newest weasel word to the lexicon of American political corruption.
Gore is talking here about his phone calls from the White House soliciting Democratic campaign contributions. Now, he cannot say, "I have broken no law," because Section 607 of Title 18 of the U.S. Criminal Code states very clearly there is to be no solicitation of campaign funds in federal government offices. Gore broke the law as written, as understood and as practiced. His defense? Apparently, that there are no cases testing the law. So there.
The problem for Gore is not just that Mr. Clean is taking refuge in one of the flimsiest legal confections of our time but that this flimsy confection is directly contradicted by his own president.
It wasn't Gore's Buddhist monastery, was it? Did you think that was okay, back then?
And your point is...?
PS - The story has been debunked. The flag is in fact that of Bermuda.
What the blank does that have to do with anything?
And why are cryptosocialist FReepers buying into this MSM spin?
Which son of a foreigner: Obama or Romney?
Bermuda is not part of the United States. They are both British overseas territories. As such, donations from both are illegal. Unless you are Gore/Romney.
The boat, the boat, that’s all they talk about, the boat . . .
Too bad about us all being wise to your real motives in attacking Mitt Romney, huh?
The owner of the yacht is Gary Morse, born and raised in Michigan.
Some FReepers are as bad as MSNBC when it comes to factchecking.
Oh, my, god...are you trying to tell me Romney is.....rich. Ugh, the horrors.
Willard does NOT own the yacht. A donor does.
From the article: “The Cracker Bay is owned by Gary Morse, developer of the Villages retirement community.”
How is this Romney’s boat?
Scuse me guys this made the rounds yesterday and it is a donors yacht - Not Romney’s flying the flag. ABC is just trying to wring out everything they can from the story.
Is this what passes for news?
It’s a really dumb move, politically. That’s what.
Take a walk down in front of the convention center in San Diego and you’ll see multi million dollar boats sporting flags from the Bahamas, Grand Cayman, Central American countries...
They must be friends of Mitt, right ?
and the problem with that is...?
The boat is apparently registered in Bermuda.
It is parked in St. Petersburg, FL - which is in America.
The donors mentioned in the article are: Gary Morse, an American. Wilbur Ross, an American. Mel Sembler, an American. Charlie Moncrief, an American.
Get a grip.
No, that is a CI Civil Ensign. I’ve seen a few :)
You must prefer Obama/Biden.
LOL! Yesterday, after firing that one news reporter, Yahoo ran an article about the lavish parties for big donors at the GOP convention. I asked, who do you think paid for the lavish party? - the big donors, duh.
These liberal reporters are really stretching things to find fault with this convention.
Kid its no news to some o0f us that Willard is totally out of touch with most of the voters...
Obama Has Gotta Go, period.
