White House Disputes Charge President Uses “Auto-pen” for Letters to Lost Soldiers’ Grieving Families
The White House today disputed the suggestion that the president had used an auto-pen to sign condolence letters to the families of Navy SEALs killed in a Chinook crash in Afghanistan last year.
“The President personally signs every letter to the families of fallen service members in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said White House National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor, “and he has said many times that it is one of the most difficult parts of his job and a reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform.”
The story that the president used an auto-pen to sign form letters was first posted in a blog from The Gateway Pundit, which posted letters from the president to Karen and Billy Vaughn, parents of the late SEAL Aaron Carson Vaughn, and letters to other parents of SEALs killed in that August 6, 2011 crash, asserting that the letters were “form letters — signed by an electric pen.”
Tweeted Donald Trump Thursday with a link to the Gateway Pundit story, “Too busy playing golf? @BarackObama sends form letters with an electronic signature to the parents of fallen SEALs http://bit.ly/SUEUzm.”
The Chinook crash killed 30 Americans and eight Afghans, representing the deadliest single incident in the war. Later than month, President Obama and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta traveled to Dover and attended the dignified transfer ceremony.
The White House did not dispute that the letters were form letters, but that would appear to not be unique to this president.

He can’t be that stupid after President Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfield were caught doing the same thing. Boy were they embarrassed when they were caught. I can’t imagine Obama thinking he could get away with it too.
Who cares?! Who would WANT a letter from this guy anyway? He hates America, he hates the military! It’s no different than getting a letter from the Taliban.

Sorry to say, but those are not autopenned. The loops on the Os show clear differences in each signature, they are even noticeable in the fuzzy low-res pictures.
If you look closely you can spot differences in the signatures.
That’s just a guy who has practiced his signture a lot. They look somewhat different up close.

Actually, they don’t. The signatures clearly are different.
The signatures do look “manufactured”, so it is not surprising that someone who got one of the letters might think it is an autopen signing. But once the blogger had 3 letters, they should have seen the signatures were unique.
There are many things to rightly criticize Obama for. We shouldn’t make up things that are easily disproven, because if gives Obama a chance to change the subject and makes it look like criticism is untruthful.
This is a bigger, harder question than Dan Rather’s “fake but accurate” word processor memos, but it could still be addressed. Do we have time though? We would need a lot of autopen documents and then matching among them to identify the fake signatures. Unless today’s Buckhead has a lot of time and access to the right documents, this might not be the best issue to address. If someone has the resources though, go for it!

Heavy D was remembered with laughter and tears Friday during a star-studded funeral service that included Jay-Z and Will Smith, humorous anecdotes from longtime friend Diddy, and words of encouragement for his young daughter, delivered in a letter from President Barack Obama.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time. He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers,” read the Obama note, according to the Rev. Al Sharpton, who quoted from it during the service.
If the signatures are the same, then you have evidence of autopenning. If they are different, then you have zero evidence of autopenning. It’s as simple as that.
Maybe they could have loaded multiple, slightly different, signatures into the device, and then used them in order to fool people into thinking they were not autopenned. However, if you accuse them of that with no evidence, and in fact, the only evidence you can offer looks exactly like manual signatures, then you’re entering lunatic conspiracy theory territory.
All that for a flag.

They sigs look different to me. This assertion is flat out stupid, sheesh.
HE was going to send them a video of HIM reading HIS letter from the TOTUS, but HE didn’t have time to record it. Also planned were several hundreds still shots of HIM playing BBall and golf. And a video of HIS last birthday party. And an autographed picture of HIM eating an ice cream cone. And a bronze-painted plaster bust of HIM. And several dozen “Obama 2012” bumper stickers. Again, a tight schedule prevented all of this.
