Romney: 'My Country Deserves Better!' (Acceptance speech excerpts)
Weekly Standard ^

Posted on 08/30/2012 5:06:27 PM PDT by GOPinCa

Here are excerpts of the remarks Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney plans to deliver this evening in Tampa, Florida:

Four years ago, I know that many Americans felt a fresh excitement about the possibilities of a new president. That president was not the choice of our party but Americans always come together after elections. We are a good and generous people who are united by so much more than divides us.

When that hard fought election was over, when the yard signs came down and the television commercials finally came off the air, Americans were eager to go back to work, to live our lives the way Americans always have – optimistic and positive and confident in the future.

That very optimism is uniquely American.

It is what brought us to America. We are a nation of immigrants. We are the children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the ones who wanted a better life, the driven ones, the ones who woke up at night hearing that voice telling them that life in that place called America could be better.

They came not just in pursuit of the riches of this world but for the richness of this life.

***

Every family in America wanted this to be a time when they could get ahead a little more, put aside a little more for college, do more for their elderly mom who’s living alone now or give a little more to their church or charity.

Does anyone know why they reveal the content of a speech hours before it's delivered?
What's the point of that? So the opponent can start hacking up the comments before they're uttered?

I don't get it - it's so stupid! Kind of like agreeing to a debate with known leftist "moderators"

My family didn't immigrate, but Mitt's did

The Romneys were converted to Joseph Smith's cult in England, and immediately immigrated to America to serve him personally, Mitt's line has never strayed from that devotion and service to Mormonism, during that same 170 span, they have always refused to serve us in uniform, not draft, no war, no patriotism, has ever snagged one of them, but this is two in row that have run to be President.

Compare and Contrast Romney's nomination acceptance speech with Obama's

Also note Romney says "we" and Obama always says "I"...

That angle is played. This is a conservative forum. Not a I-hope-the-best-liberal-wins-the-next-election support group.

I agree with you that no one can argue with the facts in post 6, they are stone cold accurate.

Jimmy Carter and Barak Obama are Christians. Maybe this country could use a Mormon President. Honestly, all the Mormons I know are uber conservatives, I wish Romney was more of a Mormon and less of a RINO.

They don’t get any more Mormon than the devout, and devoted Mitt Romney.

Mitt has excommunicated Mormons that did not meet up to the standards of his faith and religion.

Well guess what Rocky? Romney & Ryan are the only shot we have at defeating 0bama and getting his ass out of the White House. Unless you think that 4 more years of 0bama are preferable to a Romney/Ryan Administration, you better grit your teeth and pull that (R) lever on November 6th.

Romney was not my first choice, in fact he wasn't my choice at all. But as FReeper 'Going Hot' wisely said:

"survival trumps ideology".

You got two choices, 0bama or Romney. Only one of those two candidates are going to be sworn in come January 2013.

Choose.

Well guess what Bullwinkle. No matter how hard you kick and scream, justifying to vote for one liberal by vilifying another liberal is not a selling point on a conservative forum.

” No matter how hard you kick and scream, justifying to vote for one liberal by vilifying another liberal is not a selling point on a conservative forum.”

There are two choices for President and one of them will be the President next January.

We know Obama will do everything he can to destroy the country. Perhaps thats not important to you but it is to most thinking people.

Thinking and being a Mitbot are mutually exclusive. When thought is portrayed by one, I will be the first to call the fire dept.

Romney is SUCH a disappointment-after yesterdays Ryan speech we get the platitudes the sickly smile and the avoidance of any real substance (his MO)

Sad day truly, I wish the ticket was switched - ok I wish R wasn’t on the ticket at all, he is running his campaign like it was 1979

:(

If Mitt ever gave gay Mormons the kick out for being gay... he’s a big hypocrite. He ought to have walked away from the governorship rather than be a party to it.
