FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale
of our military and our allied military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

MUSIC NIGHT
To get you all in the mood
for the Saturday music thread
Fabulous FRiday presents

3 DOORS DOWN

3 Doors Down
an American rock band
from Escatawpa, Mississippi

Formed in 1996
Drummer/vocalist Brad Arnold,
guitarist Matt Roberts,
and bassist Todd Harrell.

Arnold eventually ended up acting as the group's singer
because, as he puts it, "nobody else would do it,
but I did and enjoyed it a lot."
Arnold is also their lyricist,
and wrote some of their early hits
when he was 15, often working on songs
during math class.

The band got its name during a trip to Foley, Alabama.
While walking around town they saw a sign
where some letters had fallen off that said,
"Doors Down."
Since there were three members they added 3
to create 3 Doors Down.

A couple of years after performing together,
Todd Harrell asked guitarist Chris Henderson
to join the band.

Although, they have had several drummers,
their current drummer and percussionist
is Greg Upchurch who has been with the band since 2005.

Kryptonite

Success

After Chris joined the band,
they gave a demo CD to local radio station.
The station started playing the EP version of "Kryptonite",
and it became the No. 1 requested song
on the station for over 15 weeks.

3 Doors Down's first studio album,
The Better Life was released on February 8, 2000,
and went on to become the 11th best-selling album the year,
selling over 3 million copies.
It has since been certified 6x platinum,
thanks in large part to the international hit singles,
"Kryptonite", "Loser", and "Duck and Run".

3 Doors Down released their
self-titled fourth album on May 20, 2008.
It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200,
selling 154,000 copies in its first week.
It is the band's second consecutive No. 1 album
on the chart after Seventeen Days,
as well their fourth album to reach the Top Ten.
The album contains the hit singles "It's Not My Time",
"Train", "Let Me Be Myself"
and "Citizen/Soldier",
a song written as a tribute to the National Guard.

TRIVIA:

3 Doors Down started The Better Life Foundation (TBLF) in 2003,
with a goal in mind to give as many children as possible a better life.
Since its inception TBLF has supported numerous charities nationwide,
as well as providing aid and assistance
to the Gulf Coast region of Mississippi
during Hurricane Katrina.

Turnaround

August 31, 2012

Bill was a friend of mine in semi- nary who had come to Christ out of a blatantly sinful lifestyle. He described it this way: “I was driving down the street drinking a bottle of brandy with another man’s wife at my side. When I saw some Christians on the sidewalk witnessing to passersby about Christ, I drove by and shouted, ‘Fools!’ But only a few weeks later I found myself kneeling in a church and asking Christ to become my Savior and Lord.” Bill’s conversion resulted in his giving up his old ways and experiencing a new life in Christ. It was a life-changing turnaround.

True repentance, which is initiated by the Holy Spirit, includes a real turnaround. Often we see that the greater the opposition to the gospel prior to conversion, the more stunning the change of direction afterward. When Saul of Tarsus encountered Christ on the road to Damascus, he was changed from a persecutor to a preacher of the gospel. Of this many observed: “He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy” (Gal. 1:23).

Authentic conversion includes repentance, which is a change of mind and direction. For the follower of Christ, repentance means to keep turning away from sin and turning toward Christ in obedience.

Out of my shameful failure and loss,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the glorious gain of Thy cross,
Jesus, I come to Thee. —Sleeper
Repentance is being so sorry for sin that you are willing to give it up.

He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy. —Galatians 1:23

It went well, thanks! He set the fracture manually and put me in a hard cast. Apparently, surgery will not be necessary.
