Anti-Obama Film Set to Become Box Office Hit
ABC News ^ | August 30, 2012 | David Wright

It's rare that a low-budget documentary becomes a genuine blockbuster, but conservative firebrand Dinesh D'Souza's controversial new film, "2016: Obama's America," is one of the hottest tickets at the box office right now.

"I'm overwhelmed," D'Souza said. "This is my first venture into film territory."

The film is now showing in more than 1,000 theaters, and that number is expected to double by Friday, which would put the movie's release on par with a major Hollywood blockbuster. Last weekend, "2016" was already earning more money per screen than "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Expendables 2" -- combined. The film has grossed an estimated $10.5 million to date, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

--snip--

"To me Michael Moore is a bit like the federal government -- he's big, fat and out of control," he said, laughing. "I'm a little more like the private sector, lean and nimble."

If Romney wins and I think he will, he will owe a lot of it to D’Souza.

Haven’t had a chance to see it yet, though I’ve heard great things about it. I plan on seeing it this weekend though.

Unless, of course, the low-budget documentary tells truths that no one in the Lib media or entertainment industry would ever tell. This shows that there is an audience for the truth about Obama.

I just saved 2016 for my Netflix queue. Maybe if a lot of people do that they will be more likely to rush it into streaming mode when it becomes available.

The written article left out the reporter’s final line in the video report where he rephrases “lean and nimble” to “lean & mean” - typical ABC.

Below is the media event that helped Lincoln win his second term. This poem in broadsheet form was all over the place and when my brother was at the Naval Academy in the 60s it was one of the things he had to memorize.

Sheridan’s Ride

by Thomas Buchanan Read

Up from the South, at break of day,
Bringing to Winchester fresh dismay,
The affrighted air with a shudder bore,
Like a herald in haste to the chieftain’s door,
The terrible grumble, and rumble, and roar,
Telling the battle was on once more,
And Sheridan twenty miles away.

And wider still those billows of war
Thundered along the horizon’s bar;
And louder yet into Winchester rolled
The roar of that red sea uncontrolled,
Making the blood of the listener cold,
As he thought of the stake in that fiery fray,
With Sheridan twenty miles away.

But there is a road from Winchester town,
A good, broad highway leading down:
And there, through the flush of the morning light,
A steed as black as the steeds of night
Was seen to pass, as with eagle flight;
As if he knew the terrible need,
He stretched away with his utmost speed.
Hills rose and fell, but his heart was gay,
With Sheridan fifteen miles away.

Still sprang from those swift hoofs, thundering south,
The dust like smoke from the cannon’s mouth,
Or the trail of a comet, sweeping faster and faster,
Foreboding to traitors the doom of disaster.
The heart of the steed and the heart of the master
Were beating like prisoners assaulting their walls,
Impatient to be where the battle-field calls;
Every nerve of the charger was strained to full play,
With Sheridan only ten miles away.

Under his spurning feet, the road
Like an arrowy Alpine river flowed,
And the landscape sped away behind
Like an ocean flying before the wind;
And the steed, like a barque fed with furnace ire,
Swept on, with his wild eye full of fire;
But, lo! he is nearing his heart’s desire;
He is snuffing the smoke of the roaring fray,
With Sheridan only five miles away.

The first that the general saw were the groups
Of stragglers, and then the retreating troops;
What was to be done? what to do?—a glance told him both.
Then striking his spurs with a terrible oath,
He dashed down the line, ‘mid a storm of huzzas,
And the wave of retreat checked its course there, because
The sight of the master compelled it to pause.
With foam and with dust the black charger was gray;
By the flash of his eye, and his red nostril’s play,
He seemed to the whole great army to say:
“I have brought you Sheridan all the way
From Winchester down to save the day.”

Hurrah! hurrah for Sheridan!
Hurrah! hurrah for horse and man!
And when their statues are placed on high
Under the dome of the Union sky,
The American soldier’s Temple of Fame,
There, with the glorious general’s name,
Be it said, in letters both bold and bright:
“Here is the steed that saved the day
By carrying Sheridan into the fight,
From Winchester—twenty miles away!”

We saw it last weekend. I would highly recommend it.

I think it’s playing in a theater in Greensburg.

After four years of failure, arrogance and lies, MANY people are finally starting to wonder how this charlatan got into office and who he really is. Their curiousity will turn into disgust and fear once they find out.

Thanks for posting this info. We have friends who just saw 2016 and said everyone in the theater applauded at the end.

I haven’t seen anyone point out that this would all have been impossible just a few years ago, when films were still on film. The cost of 2,000 prints would be in the tens of millions. Sending this film out to theaters digitally costs pennies.

Last weekend, “2016” was already earning more money per screen than “The Bourne Legacy” and “The Expendables 2” — combined.

I absolutely hate when they do this. They are comparing a movie that was in it’s first week to movies that have been out for awhile. 2016 is a movie that is targeted for a certain segment of the population and has made 10 million. Magic Mike was targeted for a small segment of America (woman) and made 113 million with just a 7 million dollar budget. I think they are being lose with the term hit.

I was going to reply that you can’t see it in my area. Then I checked the theater listing on the 2016 website and, lo and behold, it is playing in Santa Cruz. Money talks, I guess. I just might venture into hippieville and give it a viewing.

Our friends said the same thing and we’re definitely going to see it.

The American people were duped by this charlatan and his allies in the media. Maybe this movie will finally wake them up.

It is a good movie. I saw it Saturday the 25th. If you want to make it a hit than people need to get their friends to go and make it an event. Churches need to have Church night. For it to really do well, it needs to make over 100 million. It can be done but it takes a lot of work.

I saw it at yesterday’s first viewing and smiled when I entered the theater to a sea of older well dressed white folk. It wasn’t a packed house but a nice sized crowd.

Eh, the movie was ok but I knew everything he touched on thanks to FR. It could have brought out more of hussein’s lies but he didn’t go that direction. Also, it’s over Joe Average voter’s head with the Anti-Colonialism and historical events and people. Mainly, it’s preaching to the choir.

What’s interesting about this election are the avenues being used to express people’s frustration and anger with the usurper - so many books, billboards and this movie.
