Posted on 08/31/2012 5:34:05 AM PDT by marktwain
We support the fundamental right to self-defense wherever a law abiding citizen has a legal right to be, and we support federal legislation that would expand the exercise of that right by allowing those with state-issued carry permits to carry firearms in any state that issues such permits to its own residents. Gun ownership is responsible citizenship, enabling Americans to defend their homes and communities. We condemn frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturers and oppose federal licensing or registration of law-abiding gun owners. We oppose legislation that is intended to restrict our Second Amendment rights by limiting the capacity of clips or magazines or otherwise restoring the ill considered Clinton gun ban. Republican Party Platform, 2012
We can do better though. What incremental improvements do you think we could pass?
One would be to allow concealed carry permit holders to buy pistols in any state that allows its ccw holders to buy pistols.
“Clips” shows the ignorance of the writers and those who approved the statement! The right to carry is enshrined in the Constitution and should not be abridged by any State in the Union regardless of “permits” Driver’s license, marriage license, etc are NOT a part of the Constitution but are recognized in any State. Why the disparity? Let’s fight for what is right!
Should’ve ended it with “We oppose all legislation that is intended to damage our Second Amendment rights in any way, shape or form” and stopped there. Why they wrote it to be this specific I don’t know because it doesn’t list off oddballs like micro-stamping.
Is the so-called Clinton ban the one for “assault weapons”?
A home run.
- Allowing safe transport/posession of any lawfully owned firearm and/or ammunition in one's home state through/to any other state, i.e. driving through Mass. to hunt in Maine, or moving to another state and taking your "assault weapons" with you.
Repeal of the prohibition on new class III arms for the general public (1986, daddy Bush signed).
Get the 'F' out of the BAT.
Repeal of the GCA of '68.
Repeal of the NFA of '34.
And any other infringement on the Right. If we don't aim high, we'll never hit the mark, 'cause it's a long ways off.
I'll go with Arizona. No permits of any kind to law abiding citizens.
I think the CCW should be like a drivers license. It should be valid in any state. If a state does not have CCW laws then you should not be prosecuted just for carrying in that state.
Reagan signed it. He was president from 1980 to 1988.
Yep. You’re Right. My bad.
