Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will head to Louisiana to tour damage from Hurricane Isaac.
Romney has scheduled a last-minute visit Friday to Lafitte, La., where he will tour damage with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. The storm canceled the first day of Romneys Republican convention, and his campaign has been considering a visit for several days.
Romney is scrapping an appearance in Virginia to go to Louisiana instead.
Heavy rains and flooding have contributed to at least five deaths in Louisiana and Mississippi this week after the slow-moving storm knocked out power in whole neighborhoods.
In Louisiana, Romney will thank emergency first responders for their work.
And Obama is going to visit the military today in a trip that his administration says is “official, not political”
Gave me a good laugh when I heard that this morning.
But! But, Obama is personally following the situation, from a golf cart on a golf course, somewhere.
And the media is outraged at Obama ignoring the hurricane in LA. crickets......crickets......
Good move on Mitt’s part. He was there first a fact that won’t be lost on those hit by the hurricane. I remember the media angst because GWB wasn’t down there in the midst of chaos leading the evacuations and handing out water bottles.
Jindal was out in the middle of it, with the rain falling, wind blowing, and surge rising - as a good governor ought to be. I still give Romney kudos for showing up. I have to admit that is better than the attention of an empty chair.
Grudging admiration that the Romney team was ready on Morning #1 (I’d wanted Santorum), with spanking new paint on their planes, to go tour a disaster area that our -resident couldn’t get around to because he was busy lying to the gullible at several universities this week.
Way to go, Team Romney!
Suddenly he’s trying to act like a CIC. Where has he been as our brave men are being gunned down on a daily basis by the very people they are trying to help? Where has he been on Afghanistan at all? He’s been totally AWOL on running the military. This is nothing more than a photo op and everyone knows it. Just as he’s AWOL on New Orleans. We know that Obama loves to talk the talk. It appears that Romney actually walks the walk.
Got to give Mittens props for being savvy enough to grab this.

Obama will get a pass because he has a job. Romney can go about doing whatever he wants. Guarantee that is going to be what the media says.
People are having kittens about Clint’s speech last night, but I have a feeling “the chair” is going to start popping up all over the place. Can somebody photoshop an empty suit onto it?
The Chair already is. There are already Twitter Accounts (@InvisibleObama) and facebook pages for it. They are so funny.
No plans yet for Obama visit to Gulf Coast
TOTUS had its own Facebook page for awhile, then it mysteriously disappeared.
OMG! LMAO! There needs to be an empty chair at every campaign event from here on out! This is just too funny! The MSM is trying to shred Clint Eastwood and are all parroting the DNC “bizarre old man” meme. It’s not working. It’s realy not and I love it!
@Invisibleobama already has 44,000 followers.
Tx for the Twitter info and I just followed it. So funny to see the libs reacting to the tweets.
What a contrast to our current Narcissist in Chief Obama who only goes where he can get votes or money out of the deal
It is pure political. 0 is merely trying to burnish his CIC image and dredge up the Iraq War as an issue.
The 0 campaign reeks of desperation these days.
Code for "He has a tee time at Andrews AFB".
I like the idea of people taking photos of themselves with an empty chair and saying “Obama was here”.
Pretty much what a president would do.
Very good! I think we have a theme and effective image of an empty presidency. Congratulations on being the first (that I’ve seen, besides Clint) to think of and use it.
As I posted on a similar thread:
This is a brilliant decision that I presume Romney had made even before the convention started when Isaac was barreling towards Florida and then as it ripped up through the Gulf of Mexico. I’m guessing as Romney and Co. were looking at the logistics they presumed that they would have to work around a similar - and earlier visit - by Obama. While not too much to their surprise, but a surprise none the less, turns out Obama didn’t even have the political savy to announce plans of a visit, let alone to make one. Now he’s boxed out. Romney has managed to out-Presidential him and any visit now by Obama will only appear to be an attempt to save face.
Obama has once again been exposed as emotionally negligent in reacting to any disaster that occurs in a “red” state.
On Wednesday Paul Ryan spoke of Obama’s administration using the past tense. Today Mitt is already acting like POTUS. Looks like they’re not waiting for November....
I think this is a good gesture..... and he beat Obama. It has to upset Obama and that alone makes it worthwhile.
The Bamster campaign is in defense mode.
Maybe Mittens has a future after all, lol. Excellent stratergy right out of the chute.
Obama would have been there, but the hurricane didnt land in a swing state ...
dont worry, we have GOP Governors around to take care of everything. Obama’s got more important stuff like his golf swing and getting some pills for Julia...
Everything sucks down here. Scattered power. Few stores open or capable of being opened. Where’s Obama?

Sen. Vitter, Gov. Romney and Gov. Jindal to Assess Flooding in Lafitte
(Metairie, La.) U.S. Senator David Vitter will join Governors Mitt Romney and Bobby Jindal today on a visit to Lafitte to meet with local officials and first responders and to assess flooding damages. There will be press availability at the end of the tour.
They will depart from the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway at 1:15 pm. The group will have a press availability when they return.
Yesterday Vitter requested immediate attention to the dam at Lake Tangipahoa near McComb, Mississippi which could have caused very severe flooding throughout Tangipahoa Parish.
I think it is very smart strategy for Romney to be seen not just campaigning, but making preparations to assume the responsibility of the Presidency. I think most of America wants someone who will take the job of President more seriously.
He does have to be careful not to overplay this strategy - Americans love confidence, but not arrogance. I think this visit could set the right tone. It also makes Obama look like Romney is teaching him how to do his job...now that Obama is scrambling to arrange his own visit Monday.
Obama bounced into announcing visit to storm-ravaged Louisiana after Romney shows him up with surprise visit
Maybe they should use a rocking chair.
Dirty Harry vanquishes Dirty Barry - with nothing but any empty chair!
Clint, you're still brilliant!
LMAO! It was great!
In fact, the entire convention was the epitome of brilliant marketing.
There needs to be an empty chair at every campaign event from here on out!
Perhaps with an empty suit on it and a golf club or bag leaning against it.

After the convention, the talk with Virginia’s Senator was all about R&R doing the campaign bit there as their first stop out of the box. It would be cool to find out if going to NO was always on R&R’s radar as an option but only if Obama hadn’t done it first as they had the convention obligations first to attend to. Obama missed on this one big time.
