Romney to tour storm damage with Jindal today
The (Baton Rouge) Advocate ^ | August 31, 2012 | Kaise Hunt

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will head to Louisiana to tour damage from Hurricane Isaac.

Romney has scheduled a last-minute visit Friday to Lafitte, La., where he will tour damage with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. The storm canceled the first day of Romney’s Republican convention, and his campaign has been considering a visit for several days.

Romney is scrapping an appearance in Virginia to go to Louisiana instead.

Heavy rains and flooding have contributed to at least five deaths in Louisiana and Mississippi this week after the slow-moving storm knocked out power in whole neighborhoods.

In Louisiana, Romney will thank emergency first responders for their work.

What a contrast to our current Narcissist in Chief Obama who only goes where he can get votes or money out of the deal

It is pure political. 0 is merely trying to burnish his CIC image and dredge up the Iraq War as an issue.

The 0 campaign reeks of desperation these days.

I like the idea of people taking photos of themselves with an empty chair and saying “Obama was here”.

Pretty much what a president would do.

Very good! I think we have a theme and effective image of an empty presidency. Congratulations on being the first (that I’ve seen, besides Clint) to think of and use it.

As I posted on a similar thread:

This is a brilliant decision that I presume Romney had made even before the convention started when Isaac was barreling towards Florida and then as it ripped up through the Gulf of Mexico. I’m guessing as Romney and Co. were looking at the logistics they presumed that they would have to work around a similar - and earlier visit - by Obama. While not too much to their surprise, but a surprise none the less, turns out Obama didn’t even have the political savy to announce plans of a visit, let alone to make one. Now he’s boxed out. Romney has managed to out-Presidential him and any visit now by Obama will only appear to be an attempt to save face.

Obama has once again been exposed as emotionally negligent in reacting to any disaster that occurs in a “red” state.

On Wednesday Paul Ryan spoke of Obama’s administration using the past tense. Today Mitt is already acting like POTUS. Looks like they’re not waiting for November....

I think this is a good gesture..... and he beat Obama. It has to upset Obama and that alone makes it worthwhile.

Obama would have been there, but the hurricane didnt land in a swing state ...

dont worry, we have GOP Governors around to take care of everything. Obama’s got more important stuff like his golf swing and getting some pills for Julia...

Sen. Vitter, Gov. Romney and Gov. Jindal to Assess Flooding in Lafitte

(Metairie, La.) – U.S. Senator David Vitter will join Governors Mitt Romney and Bobby Jindal today on a visit to Lafitte to meet with local officials and first responders and to assess flooding damages. There will be press availability at the end of the tour.

They will depart from the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway at 1:15 pm. The group will have a press availability when they return.

Yesterday Vitter requested immediate attention to the dam at Lake Tangipahoa near McComb, Mississippi which could have caused very severe flooding throughout Tangipahoa Parish.

I think it is very smart strategy for Romney to be seen not just campaigning, but making preparations to assume the responsibility of the Presidency. I think most of America wants someone who will take the job of President more seriously.

He does have to be careful not to overplay this strategy - Americans love confidence, but not arrogance. I think this visit could set the right tone. It also makes Obama look like Romney is teaching him how to do his job...now that Obama is scrambling to arrange his own visit Monday.
