Can they possibly think this is the way to go ?
I watched Reagan's 1984 nomination speech and line after line was about the success of his policies turning things around for America and how he'll build on that in the second term.
Obama cannot do it. Romney referenced his one success: OBL.
Continuing his lofty rhetoric and larger than life will make him look that much more phony not that he's no longer the aspirational blank slate but the incumbent president. The GOP hit that home: if the best you've felt about the president is the day you cast a vote for him, something is terribly wrong.
