This guy has got to be a Darwin Award candidate. He exited the gene pool in a gobsmackingly stupid way.

I had a couple of classmates who used to climb out onto a fourth floor ledge at school. I’m talking about a 3-inch ledge here. Peer pressure to stop being idiots meant nothing to them. The asst principal seeing them one day while driving by put an end to it before they killed themselves. They were in a special class for advanced students who were supposed to be mature enough to not need a teacher. LOL

“is it usual for posts to take 2 hours to show up after you submit?”

For new people, sometimes yes.

Here is a link to the NY Post story, it has answers to some questions that have been raised here (there was only one chaperone on board and yes the bus is a double-decker) and also a picture of this unfortunate young man and the bus itself.

The bus was travelling from queens to nj for the party. I don’t know why that would be unless it was just that the party was being held in Jersey. It appears this was another over-the-top sweet 16 affair, I can’t imagine what it must cost just to rent that bus!

It’s very tragic, the deceased was a very handsome young man. And judging by what others have said, and heck yes, even my own experiences, he was just miserably unlucky yesterday.

I guess next week the law suits will follow.

Sibelius will immediately mandate the total reconstruction of the Interstate Highway System so that there is at least 15 feet of clearance between the roof of triple-decker buses and all overpasses. Yes, there aren't many triple-deckers around, but this is just in case they get popular.

“Low clearance .... what a way to go”

Right off the top of my head, I can’t think of a worse way.

I used to have a job reglazing windows. Me and a buddy figured out how to reglaze second story windows from outside without a ladder.

A few years ago we had some great threads about stupid things we did. I’m trying to find my list of chapters for a book.

Here is one of the old “dangerous” threads. My list of book chapters is post #27.

“things so crazy I’m surprised we survived them”

You benefited from the law of large numbers. Many others like you didn’t survive.

“The Designer Limousines bus — packed with 65 teenagers — was on its way to the swanky Venetian catering hall from St. Francis Preparatory School in Fresh Meadows, Queens, where many of the revelers went to school.”

Just a bit of swagger and overconfidence? Sad.

Sometimes a low profile is exactly what is needed.

Unless the parents start suing (i hope not), I wouldn’t be to critical. As just about everyone has said, kids do stupid things, and most live to tell about it. I myself could have been killed in a thousands different ways growing up with all the dumb things I did...

In any case, most of these parents probably thought they were doing right by their kids by hiring a bus to transport all those kids to a party - no worries about drinking and driving anyway.

Tragic mistake by a kid who was probably a decent kid showing off a bit and maybe even being egged on by friends of trying to catch the attention of some pretty girl...don’t be to critical, it could of been anyone one of else on another day in other circumstances.

This happened to a kid I went to grade school with. He stuck his head out the window of the school bus and got hit by a telephone pole. It later turned out he was being raped on a daily basis by his stepfather (found out from his younger brother who was also being molested). I often wondered if he committed kiddie suicide.
