TAMPA, Fla. Four years ago almost to the day, Sarah Palin became a megastar.
Overnight, she went from an obscure governor of a state 67 hours by car from the White House to the Republican Partys second in command, a power player who, very likely, could run for president in 2016 and win the nomination.
But on the eve of Rep. Paul Ryans nomination as Mitt Romneys running mate, Mrs. Palin was not in Tampa but instead on late-night Fox News, appearing from a remote location, perhaps her backyard in Scottsdale, Ariz., (which, if youre keeping track at home, is a 37-hour drive to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.).
Four years is a long time, so long its almost hard to remember her debut, her coming out. She was spectacular: off-white, side-button jacket, black pencil skirt, strand of pearls, low hair down, and of course the stylin glasses. The mainstream media mocked her for the line, Whats the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick, but her speech before 25,000 screaming supporters was substantive and succinct.
Sudden and relentless reform never sits well with entrenched interests and power brokers. Thats why true reform is so hard to achieve, she said, and, If character is the measure in this election, and hope the theme, and change the goal we share, then I ask you to join our cause.
Unlike Mr. Ryan, who has been a player for 14 years, having first won a Capitol Hill office when he was just 28, Mrs. Palin was the governor of Alaska but a neophyte in Washington ways when nominated. Of course, she was badly handled (and heavily over-handled) by the McCain campaign...

Reality *Bimp* :)
Push them over the top Sarah!
Then we hold their feet to the fire, replace the tired leadership with real Conservatives.
Best of luck with that (truly!). But color me skeptical about the results.
If Romney wins, the first object that he moves into the White House will be a giant economy-size box of asbestos socks.
Yes, in the short term we're probably better off with Romney than another four years of Obama. But the damage to the conservative movement will be unfortunate. In Mitt Romney I see a clone and extension of his father, George Romney, who as Governor of Michigan vastly expanded the size of state government, imposed liberal measures, designed the state's first income tax, and most telling at the national level, George fought tooth and nail against conservatives, most notably Barry Goldwater. Read up on George, then compare Mitt's liberal record in Massachusetts, and the picture for America is not very pretty.
I was around when George was active in politics (mainly the 60's) and I remember. Mitt is "like deja vu all over again" as they say.
"Feet to the fire"? Like Roy Scheider said in Jaws: "You're gonna need a bigger fire."

Head of a national TEA Party umbrella group, which recruits real conservatives to run in the GOP primaries and makes sure they get financing.
The only power that the GOP establishment has, is their being able to give financing to candidates, and supply them with experienced campaign staff. A TEA Party group that can do the same thing for the kind of conservatives that the GOP-e shuns, could help wrest control of the GOP from the Establishment.
Actually, she spent some of her time that year in supporting Conservatives for Congress, and, as a result, the Republicans took control of the House of Representatives. So those 'other interests' she was pursuing actually helped this country. If she made a few bucks for herself at the same time, more power to her!
Not surprising, at all. Republicans also KNEW this year, well in advance, that Rep. Paul Ryan was the VP nominee, so they were excited to hear what he had to say, since he was already known, and had been talking about reducing spending for quite a while.
Not that many folks knew who Gov. Palin was, so the build up we saw this year wasn't there in 2008.

Palin 2016: Rally ‘Round The Family With A Pocket Full Of Shells.
If Ryan is a fiscal conservative in fact and not just in talking points why did he vote for and support all of Bushs' budget busting spending? All talk no action, business as usual continues. I can't understand how you people allow yourselves to be fooled by smooth talking Republicans time and time again. What is it going to take for you to realize that Republicans are not fiscal conservatives, not constitutional conservatives and only occasionally social conservatives.
If willard wins the chances of change within the gop are nil. Willard will move to consolidate power asap and non-pliant conservatives will be shown the door. He’ll have shown that he can win office without that uncouth conservative rabble and that will be all she wrote.
I agree with you. And who is going to hold his feet to the fire? The weeper and his pet weasel eric? The KY doughboy? And all this hold his feet to the fire talk assumes that willard won’t act to protect his status.
The gop will become a “conservatives need not apply” organization by about December if willard wins.
If Romney loses, the GOP is going to crumble.
If competing parties are still permitted after a second Obama term, there will be a “Palin Party”, with or without her leadership.
thanks for the ping!
correction
2016 has not been cancelled yet.
Are you assuming a Romney loss? Or Romney just sucking really badly?
