"Talk to the chair!"

RUSH: Now, I dont know about you. I love words. Words mean things. Even words that sound like throwaway words. When Eastwood said, I was watching that night when he was having that thing, people said, Hes senile! He doesnt know what hes talking about. He couldnt even remember what that was. No, no, no! Having that thing is perfect. Yeah, they were having that thing. This is the perfect way to diminish it.
He was talking about Obama and Grant Park after the election. All these people, the zombies, are lighting candles. They dont even know why theyre there. They just feel good. But if you ask em why, youd get spaced-out, Oprah-type answers. And then to throw in Oprah was crying? I mean, Im sorry, that hits me right in the heart because I have a theory that Oprahs success is directly related to how much she cries, and Ive told you this over and over again.
So that one, when I heard it, just made my day. You talk about emotional connections? Clint and I were on the same Zen-like astral plane with that one. Yeah, I was watching that night and they were having that thing. (laughing) That just cracked me up. Thats the kind of thing I wish I had said, and to most people its a throwaway or some senile old guy who cant remember what hes talking about. And he also ripped, appropriately so, Vice President Joe Biden.

Play Clinty For Me

Like William F. Gavin, I hugely enjoyed Clint Eastwoods turn last night, but Im not sure I agree that it was unintentionally hilarious and that he forgot his lines, lost his way. Clint is a brilliant actor, and a superb director of other actors (and I dont just mean a quarter-century ago: In the last five years, hes directed eight films). Hes also, as Mr. Gavin observed, a terrific jazz improviser at the piano and, in film and music documentaries, an extremely articulate interviewee. So I wouldnt assume that the general tenor of his performance wasnt exactly as he intended. The hair was a clue: No Hollywood icon goes out on stage like that unless he means to.
John Hayward writes:
The intended recipient was not Mitt Romney, the convention delegates, or even Republican voters, but rather wavering independents. Clint was there to tell them its OK to find Obama, his ugly campaign operation, and his increasingly shrill band of die-hard defenders ridiculous. Its OK to laugh at them.
Im not sure he could have pulled that off if hed delivered a slick telepromptered pitch.

Nope.
Couldn'ta been him.
Carney the carney-barker said youknowwho wasn't watching the convention.
FYI .. The Daily Rushbo is a great site. Has the pertinent highlights of Rush’s show every day, as well as other worthy media updates:
Is that plaque on the back of bammies chair so he knows where to sit?
If you are a Clint Eastwood fan and staying at home over the holidays, TV AMC channel is showing Clint’s movies all day and night on labor day.
Even him ...

Bill Maher: Eastwood ‘killed’ it
Excerpt:
Bill Maher isnt among those panning Clint Eastwoods speech delivery at the Republican National Convention.
On his HBO show on Friday, Maher gave the actor props for pretending that President Obama was sitting in an empty chair next to him onstage.
(ALSO on POLITICO: Ann Romney: Eastwood ‘unique’)
As a performer, as a stand-up comedian for 30 years who knows how hard it is to get laughs, excuse me, he went up there without a net, on a tightrope. There was no teleprompter. He did a bit with just an empty chair and killed, Maher said. He committed to it, it was consistent and it worked.
People have been saying for years: these conventions are too scripted, theyre too slick, theyre too overproduced, he added. A guy who went up there who wasnt slick and killed with the crowd? I gotta give him props for that.

Yep.
A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say, and that’s what everyone who watched will remember: that empty chair.
(With its own teleprompter, which the octogenarian didn’t need.)
I took the messy hair and intentionally bumbling delivery as a poke at Biden. And I still think I’m right.
Our crazy uncle is cooler than your crazy uncle. By a long shot.
ROFL!
It was fun.I just got a chance to watch it for the first time on youtube.
Good ..! What an original, huh? HUGS .. keep praying ...
