When the documentary "2016: Obama's America" was released at fewer than 200 theaters earlier this month, Democrats, liberals and other Obama supporters speedily dismissed it as a right-wing polemic, destined to quickly disappear into the nether land of late-night cable and GOP fundraisers.
But the movie, pushed nonstop by conservative talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and others, took off. When it expanded nationwide to 1,091 screens last weekend, it earned $6.5 million, the seventh-highest weekend gross in the nation.
Finding a documentary among the top 10 box office moneymakers in any week "is very, very rare," said Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Hollywood.com. "And it seems to be a grassroots effort. It's not like I'm driving by any huge billboards here in Los Angeles."

You have just described the majority of "old democRATs" in the People's Republik of Connecticut. Heck... they're the same all over the northeast, including NY and NJ. Probably Pennsylvania as well.
It's disgusting. They actually don't "think outside the box" at all. They say: "Well, I'm a Democrat... of course I HAVE to vote for Democrats." They don't even think... They just pull any lever / fill in any bubble that says "Democrat".

Overall this 18-theater movie complex wasn't crowded, as it is a 3-day holiday weekend. We thought 60-70 people attending "2016" in a the deep-blue state of Connecticut, on a holiday weekend, was pretty darn good.
Also, the audience broke out into applause at the end of the film. There was much chattering among the crowd, ie "Wow... vote Romney/Ryan 2012" as they exited the movie. I don't expect Connecticut to turn into a Red State overnight, but, hey... I guess this is "progress".
We thought it was an excellent film, well-researched, very beautifully and stylistically filmed. If given the chance, we'd see it again.
I wish every American could see this film, particularly young "diverse" Americans, whom I think would listen to Dinesh D'Souza... he and his family are originally from India. Dinesh explains his views about colonialism in India as a lead-in to the (far-left radical) Obama story. If you have any doubts, have no fear... Dinesh is totally pro-American and pro-capitalism. Excellent film!
Exactly. I wish "2016" would be required on every college campus across America this fall. Of course it won't. However, I'm encouraged that a film like this is playing in blue states like Connecticut now... two months before the election.
In comparison, the Sarah Palin "Undefeated" film had very limited screenings in blue states. I think *maybe* it played in one cinema in CT, and maybe for one week at best. I never saw that movie...

I've said it on these 2016 threads before - this movie needs to go viral on the internet...it needs to go bootleg so people that use that medium (and there's lots) will see the movie.
Most young people don't watch tv when it's on - they watch it online after - same goes for movies.
It will lose money - but what would you rather lose.....
There's an audience of viewers out there that will never see this unless it hits the internet- they all watch the new stuff.
I wonder why they are seeing it. Is it a desire to ridicule it, or because someone (their preacher?) urged them to see it? Or are they genuinely curious about BO?

Today I saw a black guy wearing a shirt with a large, colorful BO picture and slogan on it. I used to see more black people wearing these shirts, but now they are fewer. The draw of racial pride and loyalty might still be strong. I don't know what the individual, thoughtful black person will do in the privacy of the polling booth.
Blacks are hurting as well and they know that Obama’s policies are, at least, part of the reason.
There are probably many reasons, to see if there might be truth to those birthing conspiracies, or to see what the opposition has to say about it. Some are going to see it, so they can build arguements as to why the movie is wrong.
But they are going to see it and a few will be convinced that they were hoodwinked.
I’m sure many blacks will stick with Obama, but we don’t need every black to turn their back. If there is an increase of about 5% of blacks not voting for Obama from the number that did not vote for him, that’s a lot of votes.
We had a lone protester on the day it opened in NYC. His sign was a confused jumble, as some of them are. It mentioned John Gambling, who was supposed to show up (and did). The sign said something like “You’re not going to vote for him anyway” plus a lot of other stuff scrawled wildly—didn’t make sense.
In general, it’s not a great idea to protest movies. You just end up drawing more attention to them. Many people love to be in on anything controversial that’s happening or to be part of it or to have seen it, and this kind of protest just fuels that kind of “I was there” frenzy. So too bad the lefties didn’t make a big fuss.

The filmmakers should be getting about $20 million back in revenue from ticket sales, so it'll be interesting to see if they use that money to fund similar future projects.
It's got a low 5/10 rating on IMDB, so FREEP THAT RATING and get it up.
I saw it. The movie was done well. I think it was a good angle on the empty chair but it did not have all its facts correct.

I aos think the film was technically well done and good cinematography. I know hollywood can’t wait to present it best oscar for a documentary.
