'2016: Obama's America' a box office hit
San Francisco Chronicle / SFGate.com ^ | Updated 11:24 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012 | John Wildermuth

When the documentary "2016: Obama's America" was released at fewer than 200 theaters earlier this month, Democrats, liberals and other Obama supporters speedily dismissed it as a right-wing polemic, destined to quickly disappear into the nether land of late-night cable and GOP fundraisers.

But the movie, pushed nonstop by conservative talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and others, took off. When it expanded nationwide to 1,091 screens last weekend, it earned $6.5 million, the seventh-highest weekend gross in the nation.

Finding a documentary among the top 10 box office moneymakers in any week "is very, very rare," said Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Hollywood.com. "And it seems to be a grassroots effort. It's not like I'm driving by any huge billboards here in Los Angeles."

About 60-70 people were in the theater - mostly in the 50-70 age range, but there were some young people as well.

We saw it yesterday and it was a full house in a regional mall multiplex. I also noted that the audience was skewed toward a mature set, some very, very mature.

Technically it was a well made documentary regardless of its POV. We didn't initially rush out to see the movie since the bits of Obama's personal history, associations and animating motivations have trickled out the last three plus years. However comma the film tied it all together in ways only a documentary narrative can.

Funny anecdote: during the segment where Daniel Pipes was being interviewed not too far from the end, an elderly woman seated directly behind us, in her 60s, I'd venture, jumped up and began muttering about "I can't take this anymore..don't believe this" and stumbled down the stairs and eventually found the exit door. It drew a rousing bout of needed laughter. Furthermore, cries of *** damn *** effincommie***... were heard throughout the showing! Also, saw some military in attendance- Marines.

Excellent film and glad I saw it.

From the article:

“. . . D’Souza’s film has plenty of critics on the left. They argue that the criticism of Obama not only gets facts wrong, . . .”

Of course, if you read through the entire article, nary a single instance of an incorrect fact is presented.

Excellent film and glad I saw it.

I just saw it today. I agree, an excellent film. Not only does it present an even-handed look at hussein's background (what he isn't still able to hide) it is well made. I was just as taken with the techniques as I was with the facts and message behind the film.

That said, I have to say I walked out of the theater today scared {expletive}-less. Not scared like you'd just seen a good horror film or suspense/thriller. Seriously scared for America. I am scared that enough Americans may (still) be duped into voting for this ...

I would bet you anything you care to name that most people who think they support obama have no idea who he is or what he is all about. The MSM is willfully ignorant and complacent about enlightening America.

I have been saying for years, since his first weeks in office, that hussein is un-American and anti-American. That was based partially on gut feel and partially on the things he started doing. This movie backs up everything I've been saying.

I would also bet you anything you care to name that in his heart of hearts, hussein does not think of himself as an American. At least not yet, not until he can re-make America into something he doesn't hate. That obama hates America is patently obvious by his actions, and thanks to 2016, we see why.

If hussein somehow gets another term we are seriously {expletive}. Seriously. Not "in trouble" 'cause the wrong party controls the Senate or The House or the Executive branch etc. Not in trouble 'cause you think this or that elected official disagrees with your view on issue X. All the "issues" that have come up lately are nothing - NOTHING compared to the motives behind obama and his apparent plans to transform America.

When he was campaigning before (still, who can tell) and he said he wanted to "transform American" he meant it - but in a much deeper, more fundamental way than any of your typical politicians mean. obama wants to change America alright. He wants to bankrupt her. He wants to remove her as the only superpower. He wants to "spread the wealth" - not from Wall St. to Joe the Plumber, but from America to the third world. He wants equality alright - he wants to drag America down to something on the par with the third world.

His moves haven't been inept, they haven't been merely socialistic or Marxist or fascist or any of the other labels people have applied to him. His moves are those of someone bent on intentional destruction. We have to get more people to see 2016 and/or at least heed the message behind it. obama is not who you think he is.

Let us not forget D’Souza’s coverage of 0bama (and Hillary’s) plans to make sure the US ‘leads’ by eliminating all of our nuclear weapons unilaterally.

We now have a navy that is at or below WWI levels. Who fills the void?

The present Administration and cohort, in collusion with American ‘media,’ are an existential threat to the United States of America.

For those of us who educated ourselves on Zero, what will the film present we don’t know? The general populace assumed the propaganda ministry press was actually into giving news. You were wrong.

Dinesh D’Souza with his book and this movie talks about Barack Obama Sr.’s anti-colonialism, etc. Sure, that’s correct. But there is no evidence this man is Zero’s father. Based on what? There is one photo from Honolulu airport 1971 of Barack Obama Sr. and Zero. This is the only photo. This is the father? The biographers and media hacks keep running there repeated history on Zero, but no facts are presented. One photo? But hey, it must be true right? Because Zero never gets any facts wrong or makes conflicting statements on his past right?

Another photo same place with Obama Sr. with Stanley Ann Dunham. The only photo of them together by the way. Amazing isn’t it? Never lived together, a complete lie. No marriage license. These are his parents? No photos of a pregnant SAD. Earliest pics are Zero age 2 with her. Yet the kool-aid lib media including FAUX FOX news keep spouting the same gibberish on this man’s history. They can’t even get basic facts verified. This is an utter $%%&&^%% joke.

Everything about this guy is a fabrication. Dreams he never wrote, Ayers did. Zero is lazy, a drugged out affirmative action liar sodomite fool who never worked but groomed for his position. He just “happens” to meet Frank Marshall Davis, mentor. “Happens” to meet Bill Ayers at Columbia. “Happens” to be financed by Bill Ayers father, Saudi Prince bin Talal and others to pay for his Harvard acceptance, attendance, and placement in Harvard Law Review; “Happens” to go stay in Hyde Park Commie mecca in Chicago, Frank Marshall Davis old stomping grounds. And just “happens” to make radical associations all the while. I used to believe he had a bit of charisma or good networking skills.

Whatever Zero’s real name, parentage, nationality, age, country of birth, ethnicity, is, it’s obvious his allegiances are not to the United States or it’s Constitution and people can see that.

This was the biggest takeaway for me. D'Souza sees obama's goal of equaling global outcomes by hacking away at our prosperity as the common thread that runs though his "Dreams," and unfolds into our nightmare as I extrapolate upon the revelation. There were numerous Ah-ha moments, but this was the One!

No rational undecided voter could see this film and proceed to vote for barack obama. He wins again we're done.

Regarding obama’s father....I have to admit that George and Barack have similar features even though they would be only half-brothers.

Listening to the interview with George, the US would be better off with him as president va. Barack. (’course that’s not saying much)

So don’t let anyone tell you seniors are a lock for Obama.

This seems to be a persistent myth around here. I don't know where it came from. Seniors were never for Obama, and were the only age demographic that actually went for McCain 2008. They are no happier with obama now.

What was your understanding of the reasoning D’souza presented on why obama could be elected while a Jessi Jackson or Sharpton could not?

I don’t get the same reading from that Wikipedia reference.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvard_Law_Review

“Membership in the Harvard Law Review is offered to select Harvard law students based on first-year grades and performance in a writing competition held at the end of the first year.[8][9][10] The writing competition includes two components: an edit of an unpublished article and an analysis of a recent United States Supreme Court or Court of Appeals case.[8] The writing competition submissions are graded blindly to assure anonymity.[11][10] Fourteen editors (two from each 1L section) are selected based on a combination of their first-year grades and their competition scores. Twenty editors are selected based solely on their competition scores. The remaining editors are selected on a discretionary basis.[8] The president of the Harvard Law Review is elected by the other editors.[12][9]”

I think this should be read to state the the president is chosen by ALL the other editors (80 of them). It is still a popularity contest, though

What I understood from the film's message is that people such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton don't appeal to the mainstream public because they assume all white people are racist unless they agree to give them something -- much like when Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton shake down businesses to avoid allegations that they are somehow racist.

Obama, on the other hand, approached the public very differently -- with a kumbaya, "we're all in this together," non-threatening manner.

As Obama himself said in "Audacity of Hope," "I [Obama] serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views."

Nutmeg, part of the reason these people vote democrat, at least some of these people, is their visceral, illogical hatred of anyone they perceive as rich. I know a few people like this. Oddly, one lives in a very nice home and is in the process of importing an expensive show dog from Europe. But, by golly, the visceral hatred of Romney she has comes out of every pore.

People like this would react in giddy celebration were Obama to be re-elected, thus sending this country spiraling to its economic and figurative death.

The reason ... as a recap ... was that Jackson and Sharpton have historically played the race card in a “you owe me because I am black” context, whereas Obama has been the non-threatening black man who kept silent about his race as a reason to vote for him. Go back to 2008, and how was it that Joe Biden referred to him? “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

What has changed in the last 4 years is that Obama is now using the politics of class warfare, but you notice he still has not played the race card directly ... he is letting his proxies do that by calling anyone who disagrees with him a racist. I think the public is getting it however ... Obama’s refusal to denounce his proxies is tantamount to agreement, and people are starting to see him as complicit in racial politics.
