A sub-3 hour mile is really fast. How could he not know he was claiming a near miraculous feat?

I'm sorta crippled up and I can make a mile in about 30 minutes. 20 minutes if I have my flight line boots on. WTF is the writer talking about?

That’s it, he “lied” about his marathon time that he ran over 20 years ago — I am voting for Obama!!! (/SARC)

“Ryan, through a spokesman, responded that he’d just mixed things up: “The race was more than 20 years ago, but my brother Tobin—who ran Boston last year - reminds me that he is the owner of the fastest marathon in the family and has never himself ran a sub-three. If I were to do any rounding, it would certainly be to four hours, not three. He gave me a good ribbing over this at dinner tonight.”

Probably because it is inconsequential and people asking things like that are like flies buzzing around. I show dogs. I forget their proper exact registered names sometimes. I forget which shows they finished at and how many it took them to finish etc. These ARE important things but I have more important things to store in my memory. I cannot believe that anyone really cares about this. Unless they are just looking for a gotcha. I hope the rest of America is as sick of this stuff as I am.

“So the media is investigating Ryan’s marathon times?”

And don’t forget Mitt, the demon barber of whatever school that was.

This shows how deep they will delve into the records of Republicans, while overlooking the dirt on dems that is right in front of their faces.

The MSM has abandoned it’s constitutionally mandated mission to inform the electorate. It’s a wholly owned subsidiary of the Left and I hope to see it completely destroyed in my lifetime.

But running a marathon in less than 3 hours is a real feat. There’s a big difference between 3 and 4 hours. It’s like something Al Gore would claim.

sounds like somebody misspoke themselves, somewhere. yes, three hours would be upward of 8 mph for 26 mile marathons.

The original commentary was, frankly, a goofy joking conversation. No one took him seriously at the time.

Hewitt took him seriously. I heard the interview and the follow up. Several serious marathoners called in and explained what a fast time that is and what kind of training it takes to get to that level. It sounded like you can be a top-flight marathoner or you can have an alternate life, but not both. Especially when your life is in politics. The callers sounded pretty skeptical, but Hugh didn't seem to catch that. He just thought, damn, an ideal conservative candidate and an all-American athlete to boot.

You obviously don’t run. People who run races competitively will never forget their best time. Well, they may forget the exact seconds, but they will not forget the minutes. I can tell you my best 10k time. 42 minutes and approx 15 seconds. give or take 2 or 3 seconds.

Now, given that he hasn’t run in 20 years I could give him a pass on missing it by as much as a minute. If he misses it by more than that he’s just plain making things up.

I’m always amazed by people who can speak for every other person. He may just have a busier life than you do. I find this to be nothing of import. BTW I used to work in the fitness field and many of my cohorts were runners and some did run marathons. I am QUITE familiar with how obsessive they were.

Just for the record: The current world record time for men over the distance (26 miles 344 yards) is 2 hours 3 minutes and 38 seconds, set in the Berlin Marathon by Patrick Makau of Kenya on 25 September 2011.

Maybe it was a composite marathon like Obama’s girlfriend in his book. All it takes is 461.12 100yd. dashes @13 seconds each to do a marathon in one hour forty minutes.

who financed all of Obama’s expensive air travel when he was young and supposedly poor?

That's a question I've always wondered about. Back in that time frame, international air travel was VERY expensive, essentially for the wealthy. Everybody else went by ship.

Romney/Ryan have an out with ANY and ALL questions regarding their past. When a reporter questions them about their past life they need to give the reporter an assignment to get the answer to their question:

"When you get me Barack Hussein Obama's grades or the name of his first boyfriend from college I'll give you the answer to your question. In the mean time, shut the hell up."

This is a silly little story about nothing important. But the MSM has a habbit of blowing little stuff up when in comes to conservatives. Don’t underestimate the power of the MSM of creating the meme that Ryan exaggerates and puffs himself up. The MSM already put out that Ryan’s speech on Wednesday was full of ‘lies’. Add this little exageration...and drip, drip, drip.

Ryan is one of the good guys...IMO...and he’s under the microscope now. He needs to be careful.

Let's see. When I click on the link, it takes me to The New Yorker website featuring a post by Nicholas Thompson with the title How Fast Can Paul Ryan Run?

Interesting. Your title includes a parenthetical interpretation of the piece at The New Yorker, wherein you state "admits" marathon "claim" was "false". That's three words connoting some sort of misdeed by Paul Ryan that are actually only your personal FReeper opinion.

How Mouthpiece Media of you, carraway.

Exactly! And that is why you have record books, kept in a safe location for reference, IF there is ever an important need for the info.
