TURNABOUT: Now calls for Rove to go! Bush adviser 'jokes' about murder
WND ^ | 31 Aug 12 | WND

A growing list of Republicans and conservatives are calling for longtime Republican adviser Karl Rove to step away from GOP campaign efforts after the strategist jested that he might have to murder Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo.

William Murray, who heads the Government is Not God Political Action Committee and chairs the Religious Freedom Coalition, said today that the comment “was so distasteful as to shame the entire Republican Party.”

“Congressman Akin made a misstatement on the subject of rape and conception for which he apologized,” he said. “Apparently Karl Rove believes the apology is not enough and that Akin should pay with his life. Jokes about murder are not jokes when it comes to politicians where the risks of assassination are real.”

Conservative icon and founder of the Eagle Forum Phyllis Schlafly echoed the calls for Rove’s resignation.

“Karl Rove has made himself toxic to Republicans by his incredibly offensive and dangerous statement suggesting the murder of Congressman Todd Akin of Missouri,” Schlafly said in a statement. “Any candidate or network who hires Rove will now be tarnished with this most malicious remark ever made in Republican politics.”

The Associated Press reported today that Rove did apologize

But Schlafly says it’s not enough.

“At the very least Rove should make a public apology. “Rove has been calling on Todd Akin ...but the one who should resign because he made an embarrassing, malicious and downright stupid remark is Karl Rove.”

Joseph Farah, founder and CEO at WND.com, has said Rove’s “got to go.”

“Just out of sheer decency standards, Fox News should drop him as a contributor,” he said. “Sean Hannity should stop pumping up this mean-spirited political operative as ‘the architect.’

“Rove has self-destructed,” he said.

Akin and family had been receiving death threats and the FBI was involved.

BTW, when was the last time you joked at a public microphone about murdering someone? My bet...you wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing.

More importantly, this was among a bunch of billionaire Republican donors. Rove was trying to ensure none of them gave Akin any money. He was trying to bury him politically. In that effort he made his “murder” joke.

So, he really wanted to kill him off politically, so he jokes about killing him off literally.

Continuing the theme of persecuting the random sloppy, GOP tongue.

It might help Akin to publicly give Rove a pass on this.

Every call-in show should be asked about Rove’s murder comment, and especially if Rove is a guest.

For instance:

A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President Obama — an ominous beginning to what many fear is a plagued convention.

Silliness.

I’m a proponent of free speech. Akin, Rove, whoever. We have the right to say what we think.

If it’s something stupid, people aren’t going to listen to you. They’ll think you’re a fool. They won’t vote for you.

Akin is running. Rove is not. Neither am I.

If Akin says something stupid, he can lose votes, lose an election, kill chances for the GOP to take the Senate.

If Rove or I say something stupid, we sound stupid. Maybe embarrass our mothers and kids, but that’s about it.

Rove is paid to say what he thinks, to run his well-connected and well-informed mouth. So are other political commentators. I enjoy listening to them, take it all with a grain of salt.

It’s absurd and unAmerican to get your panties in a wad over free speech.

But ironically Akin was not punished, so why should Rove be punished? There is also the little matter of Akin was not joking while Rove was.

If there is free speech, Jed, then there’s free reaction to that speech.

So, you don’t give an idiot a freebie for saying the malicious.

There are consequences in life for our actions, and Joe Smith is free to walk in tomorrow and call his boss a stupid jerk. And his boss is free to respond.

Amen. Do you suppose Rove is getting the message?

Akin misspoke and apologized. Rove did not misspeak, he meant to say it. Rove wants Akin punished, why shouldn’t he be held to that same standard?

Rove is spending $300 million to defeat Obama.

Democrats spent $1.5 million to help Akin win (3 times what he spent himself!)

I dislike them both, but Akin can be replaced by anyone and they would crush McCaskill. Who will we "replace" Rove and his $300 million with?

Rove is highly over-rated.

Without the Tea Party types, Bush would not have won in 2000 and 2004(we weren’t called the Tea Party then).

When he comes, the remote is used to check another channel—any channel.
