CHARLOTTE, N.C. A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President Obama an ominous beginning to what many fear is a plagued convention. Workers were trying Saturday afternoon to reform the base of the sculpture, built from sand brought in from Myrtle Beach, S.C., pounding and smoothing out the sand that had washed off the facade. Democrats' choice of Charlotte has drawn criticism from unions who don't like North Carolina's labor laws, and the state seems to be tilting away from Democrats politically.

Mount Obama sounds like fag work to me
OH NO how terrible..just like Obama the sand has no spine
Didn’t they have sense enough to look at the 7-day forecast to see whether any rain was likely?
Obviously it was built by Obama’s Govt, thats why it collapsed so quickly
They probably did but figured the guy who could lower the seas could part the clouds too.
Oh the humanity!
All he is is dust in the wind, man.
God at work? ;-)
Feet of Sand: The Barack Obama Story
Yep. Ruh-Roh is right. A bad omen; and STOOPID! What we supposed to do, ADORE and REVERE it? - In which case, they better shake a leg.
Your stimulus dollars at work.
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away”.
That was a rhetorical question, right ?
God sends rain on the just and the unjust.
Why anyone with a brain would plan anything this big (convention) outdoors in September in North Carolina are really stoopid.
24 “Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; 25 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; 27 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.” 28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, (RSV, MAT 7:24-28)
Sure hoping that holds true Thursday night.
It is sort of like Obama’s sand castle economy.
Portends of November '12 when his whole regime will be washed away like the Egyptians in the Red Sea!!!
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
As a matter of fact; there is a ‘flash flood warning’ out for the Charlotte area right now...what’s that word? Schaden...schaden...
(golden calves, too, apparently)
My first inclination is to make a belt sander comment, but instead I'll simply post:
Why does it have a Myrtle Beach button on?
Seen the before picture?
I wonder how twitter @SandObama is doing.
And we want these people for four more years?
That’s where the sand came from.
The entire thing is weird.
Was trying to recall that very verse when I saw thins post. Thanks
0bama and the DNC are pi$$ing themselves under pressure. Here’s PROOF.
Oh no, it's here on my deck.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. In the calm before Charlottes political whirlwind hits, thousands of area residents filed by huge-screen images of Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty at the Time Warner Cable Arena and marveled at what lies ahead.
Organizers billed Fridays public tour of the convention hall as the first of three free public events to thank Charlotteans for their support.
Monday brings CarolinaFest 2012, a street festival in uptown Charlotte featuring musical performers, childrens activities and vendors.
On Thursday, thousands of campaign volunteers and members of the public will attend Obamas acceptance speech at Bank of America Stadium.
Elsie Davis of Charlotte, 55, waited in line for seven hours last weekend to get tickets for the presidents speech and came to the arena preview tour.
Its amazing that we can just come in here, she said. Its like were a part of it.
Charlotte resident Sheila Cummings agreed. To know I can look at the TV and say I was there ... its amazing, she said.
Organizers budgeted $7 million to prepare the arena, which will seat 15,000.
Have heard this song since a child.
That’s the one...thank you both!
A fitting bit of imagery to follow that provided by a certain movie icon a couple of days ago.
