The senior commander for Special Operations forces in Afghanistan has suspended training for all new Afghan recruits until the more than 27,000 Afghan troops working with his command can be re-vetted for ties to the insurgency.
The move comes as NATO officials struggle to stem the tide of attacks on NATO forces by their Afghan colleagues. The attacks, which have killed 45 troops this year, have forced NATO officials to acknowledge a painful truth: Many of the incidents might have been prevented if existing security measures had been applied correctly.
But numerous military guidelines were not followed by Afghans or Americans because of concerns that they might slow the growth of the Afghan army and police, according to NATO officials.

An American soldier should NEVER be forced to meet with an Afghani policeman, guardist, or official unarmed. To hamstring our soldiers with politically correct ROEs is murder, plain and simple.
Thank you Mr Odumbo for bungling another area of your responsibility and letting our troops get killed. FOR NO DAMN REASON!!!!!
We aren’t capable of vetting our own President, how the hell are we going to vet these rag-heads????
And then the Aussies apparently took matters into their own hands...
The only change in policy that is needed is that all Afghan recruits are to attend mandatory target practice (where they are the targets).
What? Seriously?? Why would this policy be needed? Gosh,,our Generals are always SO far out in front of potential problems. The blinding speed of their response leaves me in the dust. I can barely keep up with them.///
This is almost as amazing as their response to the IEDs on the MSRs in Iraq. They were on top of that within like, 5 or 6 years!//
Why is the vetting process suddenly necessary?
We have a guy in the WH who has never been vetted and notice how that oversight has bitten us in the national ass.
Just drop the bomb. Drop it twice for that matter.
Putting lipstick on these pigs is not going to change them!!
“until the more than 27,000 Afghan troops working with his command can be re-vetted for ties to the insurgency”
They’ll vet them for everything except being a moslem. A silly pointless exercise with an impossible goal. They are all rife with shady contacts, friends, family members, and all are moslems,,there for the money. The ones who will go sudden jihad will even LIE! (gasp)
Give me one ‘button’...you take the ‘other’......
My vetting process would include a private interview with giving the recruit a waeapon he thinks is loaded with live ammo.
Then burn some koran pages, spill some pig blood on him and describe mohamamadman as the pedophile he is. If he shows no
sign of aggression then he can move on to the boot camp phase.

brother, greedy I’m not. I would give all the dang ‘buttons’ if I had them.
Too many of my Family suffered over the Afagan pricks and their revoluition. Just drop the dang bomb and end it.
Why does this kind of crap never ‘GO ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP” during a Democrat Presidency but it’s always the President’s fault when a Republican is President? It’s a rhetorical question, I know the answer, “Democrats care more and just want to do it right”. Democrats are like high school bullies, they could give a rat’s rear end about the reality of what they inflict on other people... the ones not like them.
Dad, never came home.
I say wipe them out or get out.
0pansy is such the girly sissy to never do anything.

After all this time, why are the Afghans not training their own? What happened to train the trainers?
Wasn’t Petraeus in charge of training the Afghan police? Maybe he’ll write about that in his book.
hussein can’t even spell ROE let alone come up with a reasonable set. His are far more about appearances (big surprise) and political correctness than about military common sense.
In a culture where deceit and corruption is a way of life, and religious fervor and tribal pride demands atrocities, how are we supposed to “vet” anybody?
Unless by “vet” you mean “put them down like a rabid dog”.
Obama's fault. They're trying to meet his political timetable.
The "blackest mark" against Col West is that he "erred" on the side of his troops - that makes him a real hero in my eyes.
The goal of “building a relationship” is run-of-the-mill PC liberal claptrap. Some liberal who got through West Point came up with that one. We’re not there to make friends. That should never be the goal. We’re there to command obedience and instill fear if necessary. Afghan troops and police should never work side-by-side with American boys. And recreation with them?... Fuhgeddaboudit. They should only be allowed near our boys when they are out front, well downrange and out-numbered.
Vetting is another liberal joke. Are you going to vet a pitful of vipers in an attempt to figure out which ones won’t bite you? Please. Here’s LibWhacker’s vetting procedure: Our boys should make a big show of frequently burning or urinating on Korans, or telling loud jokes about smelly mohammadans. Anyone who doesn’t laugh or begins twitching, shoot ‘em dead on the spot. That’s not some armchair tough guy’s approach. We’re never going to be friends with these people. Demand respect and obedience. They actually expect that from us.
Vetting Afghan’s for military activities with NATO forces is like vetting Palestinians for military activities with the Isreali Defense Forces - it can’t be done.
The cultural and political trails of ethnic identity, and loyalty to it, clan identity and loyalty to it, Taliban and Taliban-like sentiment, and loyalty to it, crisscross and intersect like a spider’s web in Afghan culture.
It is impossible to vet an Afghan - “to appraise, verify, or check for accuracy, authenticity, validity” of an Afghan’s loyalties - in that spider’s web.
I believe that Western military leaders who say it can be done are either lying to us, lying to themselves, or ignorant (not knowing or not accepting what they know about the Afghan culture); and in either case unwilling to face the facts.
I believe that no matter how hard the West believes in it’s mission, a majority of Afghan’s do not, even among those who operate, and without treachery, as our allies.
I believe that once we are gone, a civil war period much like the 1990s will resume. Meanwhile the young Afghan men join up for the Afghan military, to get the training that they will put to use, when we are gone, and not in concert with each other, but in concert with whomever they share their true ethnic, clan or religious loyalties as their first loyalty.
The minority of Afghan’s who would really like to avoid that and who want first and foremost a “modern” Afghanistan will become the West’s latest political refugees, as their dreams die with our departure.
Will Romney admit this, and “let go”. He should. He does not have to own the project Bush and Obama worked for.
For our brave troops, it’s a sad fact. They still deserve honor for their noble and loyal service. They did what their nation asked of them. They are not responsible for the choices made for them.
I'm sure he and his cronies look upon these deaths as "workplace violence," just like they said the Fort Hood massacre was. I just pray I live long enough to finally see the truths about Obama and his administration come fully to light.
Precisely. They're letting things slip to meet Obama's artificial deadline, and our people are dying because of it.
Gee, now what rocket scientist figured out that armed Afghan “allies” are a threat to our guys? Duh.
