Excluded From Inclusion (NY Times questions the absence of gay speakers at the GOP Convention)
New York Times ^ | 09/02/2012 | Frank Bruni

WHAT the Republicans painstakingly constructed here was meant to look like the biggest of tents. And still they couldn’t spare so much as a sleeping bag’s worth of space for the likes of me.

Women were welcomed. During the prime evening television hours, the convention stage was festooned with them, and when they weren’t at the microphone, they were front and center in men’s remarks. Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney both gushed about their moms in tributes as tactical as they were teary.

Latinos were plentiful and flexed their Spanish — “En América, todo es posible,” said Susana Martinez, the New Mexico governor — despite an “English First” plank in the party’s regressive platform.

And while one preconvention poll suggested that roughly zero percent of African-Americans support Romney, Republicans found several prominent black leaders to testify for him. Condoleezza Rice, the former secretary of state, delivered what will surely be remembered as the convention’s most stirring and substantive remarks, purged of catcalls and devoid of slickly rendered fibs.

But you certainly didn’t see anyone openly gay on the stage in Tampa. More to the point, you didn’t hear mention of gays and lesbians. Scratch that: Mike Huckabee, who has completed a ratings-minded transformation from genial pol to dyspeptic pundit, made a derisive reference to President Obama’s support for same-sex marriage. We were thus allowed a fleeting moment inside the tent, only to be flogged and sent back out into the cold.

Sounds like a fraud. I was graduated from the columbia university graduate school of journalism with a ms, and all of the classes were pass fail. I suppose they may habe changed it but when I was there, there was no way to declare somebody as second in his class.

I don’t think anyone would confuse a Catholic priest for a Protestant fundamentalist, though conservative Catholics do have some things in common with us:) But fundamentalists have never supported religion as an arm of “social justice” as a movement.

Hey Frank, I don't care what you do in your bedroom. Frankly Frank, I don't want you to bring your bedroom to the convention floor either.

Frank Bruni’s Week in Review column debuted Sunday and – surprise! – it was all about being gay in America.

"But you certainly didn’t see anyone openly gay on the stage in Tampa."

You also haven't seen any one-armed Serbo-Croatian lesbian discus throwers at any of the DNC functions.

Where's the outrage, Frank?

Truer words were never spoken, these people are absolutely fixated on their disgusting sexual acts. I suppose every deviant is fixated with the subject of their deviation, but so far, they don’t all base a political movement on it. Though no doubt that’s in the works.

In March, Bruni devoted a column to a former classmate providing a pat liberal morality lesson that seemed a lot like an invasion of doctor-patient privacy, then attacked Newt Gingrich and insulted Gingrich’s wife. Today Bruni, who is openly gay, goes after Palin’s oldest daughter for hypocrisy and being a bad mother, after Bristol had the audacity to blog her opinion on gay marriage (she’s against it):

NYT writers ought to read Leviticus 18:22.

Did Columbia J-school discourage caps and correct spelling and grammar during the period of your attendance?

Explains a lot.

Bruni is openly gay.[7] He has struggled with his eating and bulimia

I'd be puking my guts out, too, if I ate what he does.

Had they had one, they would have been accused of having a token “gay” in a party that has only a handful. They would have been accused of trying to make it appear the party was welcoming to them.

Don’t even bother trying to explain the situation to them. You are automatically wrong, no matter what.

“Do you still beat your wife” is a fair question compared to the crap the dems pull.

Another homosexual trying to make everything be about him.

Thank you for using the correct English term instead of the liberal cover word.

“Bruni is openly gay.[7] He has struggled with his eating and bulimia”

So he’s mentally ill. Most homosexuals are.

That apparantly means there are more problems the man has with things going into his mouth.

That is unkind about Cardinal Dolan. I have no idea if what you suggest is true and don’t care, as long as he is keeping his vows of celibacy. I don’t recall him playing any sort of identity politics the way the Democrats do. Of course any blacks, women or homosexuals that are conservative and that don’t play the Democratic victim class grievance card are by definition not real minorities anyway, but honorary members or at least lackeys of the hated white persons ruling class.
