New Yorker's Lizza: Nothing Racial About Clinton's 'Obama Would Have Been Carrying Our Bags'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 09/03/2012 6:49:54 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

It's irresistible to play the game of imagining the MSM response had a prominent Republican been caught saying of Barack Obama that "a few years ago this guy would have been carrying our bags." In the case of a Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan, calls for them to quit the campaign would be echoing from the halls of MSNBC to the shores of the New York Times.

But let a Democrat say it, in the person of The World's Greatest and Most Beloved Politician, AKA Bill Clinton, and well, no problem. The MSM reacts with a yawn. Take Ryan Lizza, the New Yorker correspondent who actually broke the story. Appearing on CNN this morning, Lizza assured host Soledad O'Brien that "I don't think it's racial. I don't think Bill Clinton has a racist bone in his body."

Maybe Mr.Lizza should interview a few of the people who knew Bill Clinton as an undergraduate at Georgetown. Then he would not only come to understand Clinton, but the adage that “at eighteen you are basically the same person you will be at eighty five.”

Hillary apparently means to complain that anti black racism was supposedly so total in that era, that Barack Obama would have been reduced to servile work, unable to pursue any more advanced profession.

Calling her racist is beside the point. She should be called a liar.

If you are a Democrat you can make racial jokes and get away with it because they cannot use it politically against their own party members. The Democrats will continue to play the race card because they do not have many cards to play because the economy stinks so bad under their leadership. They are grasping to keep support from these groups so they can keep power. Clinton knows how to play the game.

“Obama would have been carrying our bags” = Not racial
“They gonna put y’all back in chains” = Not racial

“They’re running an angry campaign” = Racial
“Welfare” = Racial
“Chicago” = Racial

Got it.

I tend to give Billy BJ the benefit of the doubt on this one. He might just have been saying that the political job Obama is qualified for is baggage handling. I agree with him there.

Odd since “Chicago” is a racial slur as is food stamps but for some reason referring to Obama as a servant to rich white guys is not.

Do Democrats do anything other than lie? Seriously, the only honest comment I heard from a Democrat was when O’Malley said we aren’t better off.

Clinton’s cool, but any word that comes out of a Republican’s mouth is racist. Seriously, as far as free speech is concerned, I feel like we’re living in a totalitarian state.

Clinton, being a Democrat, is incapable of racism. It’s just that simple.

Orwell’s 1984 it is. Words no longer have common meaning. Everything needs a party operative to interpret sentences into their proper political meanings.

They are Democrats!

Why, since they are Democrats, they would not even be racist if they joined the KKK - Just ask Robert Byrd.

So the democRATS have no problem if, during the first debate, Romney turns Barry and says, “In five months from now, y’all be carrying bags for a living.”

At this point they have forfeited their ability to make the racist charge stick. They did the same thing with sexist a few years ago.

Football season starts this week. Nearly every player on defense is Black. So, your comment is clearly racist. / sarcasm

I can see Obama carrying Bill’s bags.

And Bill wouldn't have minded having a sidekick like Obama to help out either.
Women are drawn to Obama but he's not interested in them.
So more women for Bill.

- The women like Obama.

- Bill likes the women.

- Obama doesn't.

With Billy being from Arkansas and raised during the period that he was raised, you can bet your ass that it was exactly what it appears to be. He was referring to his lack of resume and color. Obama has a Harzard education. Billy did not say that Obama was only qualified to be a junior attorney. Look at any airport up to the the current era and you will see that baggage handlers is almost exclusively a black profession. This is a most disgusting racial comment and should be condemned

Hmmmmmm...a memory refresher:
American political writers John Heliemann and Mark Halperin claim in their book, GAME CHANGE, that Mr Clinton made the call to the late ‘Lion of the Senate’ Ted Kennedy, on the day after Mr Obama won a key primary in Iowa (2008).

‘He phoned Kennedy and pressed for an endorsement, making the case for his wife. But Bill then went on, belittling Obama in a manner that deeply offended Kennedy,’ they wrote.

‘Recounting the conversation later to a friend, Teddy fumed that Clinton had said, ‘A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.’ ...After Kennedy sided with Obama, Clinton reportedly griped, "the only reason you are endorsing him is because he's black. Let's just be clear."

The top Democrat in the US Senate was also in hot water over racially insensitive comments he made during the 2008 campaign about Mr Obama that are quoted in ‘Game Change.’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid describing the then Senator Obama as ‘light-skinned’ and ‘with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.’

Can’t we get a good photo of Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy walking from the airport with Barry Sueto carrying their bags? There must be one somewhere.
