'Iran must steer clear of US interests in the Gulf'

Washington reportedly sends Tehran indirect message saying it will not back Israeli strike on nuclear facilities as long as Iran refrains from attacking American facilities in Persian Gulf

The United States has indirectly informed Iran, via two European nations, that it would not back an Israeli strike against the country's nuclear facilities, as long as Tehran refrains from attacking American interests in the Persian Gulf, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Monday.

According to the report, Washington used covert back-channels in Europe to clarify that the US does not intend to back Israel in a strike that may spark a regional conflict.

In return, Washington reportedly expects Iran to steer clear of strategic American assets in the Persian Gulf, such as military bases and aircraft carriers.

Israeli officials reported an unprecedented low in the two nations' defense ties, which stems from the Obama administration's desire to warn Israel against mounting an uncoordinated attack on Iran.

The New York Times reported Monday that US President Barack Obama is promoting a series of steps meant to curb an Israeli offensive against Iran, while forcing the Islamic Republic to take the nuclear negotiations more seriously.

One of the steps considered is "an official declaration by Obama about what might bring about American military action, as well as covert activities that have been previously considered and rejected," the report said.

Several of Obama's top advisors believe that Jerusalem is seeking an unequivocal American statement regarding a US strike on Iran – should it actively pursue a nuclear bomb.

Israel hopes such a statement is made during Obama's address before the UN General Assembly on September 25.

Others in the White House said Israel is trying to drag the US into an unnecessary conflict in the Gulf.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said Monday that "There is absolutely no daylight between the United States and Israel when it comes to preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon."

Carney said that all options remain on the table for Iran. He said the "window for diplomacy remains open," adding that the diplomatic process remains the best way to deal with the Islamic Republic, though "that window will not remain open indefinitely."

Cyber war a go?

According to the New York Times, Washington has also sent Iran a back-channel deal suggesting they curb their nuclear ambitions, but Tehran rejected the deal, saying no agreement is possible sans lifting all West-imposed sanctions.

According to the report, the Obama administration is exploring the possibility of mounting a covert operation, as well as waging a "quiet" cyber war against Iran.

President Obama had previously rejected the notion, fearing such cyber assaults would wreak havoc on Iranian civilian life.

Later in September, the United States and more than 25 other nations will hold the largest-ever minesweeping exercise in the Persian Gulf, in what military officials say is a demonstration of unity and a defensive step to prevent Iran from attempting to block oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz.

In fact, the United States and Iran have each announced what amounted to dueling defensive exercises to be conducted this fall, each intended to dissuade the other from attack.

Suppose Israel attacks before the election. The US doesn’t support them.

Does that October surprise help Zero or Romney?

Hurts.

All the people who would be gratified by a hands off policy towards Iran will vote for Obama anyway. If it looks like Obama is winning, Israel will attack to try to influence the election. If Obama is losing, they will wait for Romney. With U.S. assistance dismantling Iran’s nuclear weapons will be orders of magnitude easier.

We are not going to get involved in nation building or try to make friends in Iran. We will grind their economic and military assets into dust and let them pick up the pieces, unlike in Iraq and Afghanistan. Big mistake in the former two countries.

One of the steps considered is “an official declaration by Obama about what might bring about American military action, as well as covert activities that have been previously considered and rejected,” the report said.............................. Uhhhh? Covert? like letting them know in advance? Lets face it folks, the area is too important to mess up. We must consider the $$$$$ factor here. Most nations are at the point of bankruptcy, can we afford any involvement? We’re between a rock and a hard place here. Here is where Leadership is really needed. Obama, you better go to the opinion polls or maybe ask your wife what to do. (Like Clinton would, according to Hillary. Oh wait she works for you now?) LOL, the Mullahs must be laughing their butts off.

I think a presidential election with an incumbent will always be decided by the economy, regardless of what happens internationally - if an Israeli attack on Iran happens early enough to affect prices at the pump, Obama will most definitely not be helped. Otherwise, international affairs simply won't matter in comparison to how the voter's wallet or purse feels in the weeks leading up to the election.

Well, this proves one thing about Obama... we no longer need to search for proof he is an African-Hebrew-American!

Look, not only is this the correct thing to do but it is... in my opinion as Attorney General that it is the legal thing to do--

And when Obama has flexibility after the election... I'll get my one million dollars--

I cannot recall when the cockles of my heart... were ever this warm.

You know, watching the Democrat Convention makes me warm--

But it ain't... the cockles of my heart!

Eye God, Bender... them traitorous sons-a-bitches are serious!

Yeah, they are, Gus... they surely are--

Yes, even I, Shirley... agrees here--

The incentive for Iran to refrain from attacking our interests should be fear of OUR retaliation, not allowing Israel to do what they need to do.

I think Israel has to attack before the election and who it helps depends on several factors.

Waiting until after the election does them no good. If Obama wins, they are cooked and should have gone in beforehand. If Romney wins, Obama will still be in power until January, perhaps too long to wait.

If Israel wages a "soft", "targeted" war using cyber weapons, non nuclear EMPs, commando raids, and cruise missle attacks they might be able to get away with it. Obama will be in trouble with the Jewish vote. If it goes badly for Israel and Obama does nothing, I don't believe that America wants to see Israel destroyed.

“...as long as Iran refrains from attacking American facilities in Persian Gulf.”

Dear Leader, how has that been working for the USA? Iran is a state that is sponsoring terrorism around the world. There are embassy bombings, there are attacks on troops that Iranian operatives have been organizing and leading for over a decade. Many of the IED’s killing our soldiers in the Middle East are from Iran.

In short we are at war with Iran and have been for a long time. It is not a publicly declared war, but it still is war. They are not going to stop attacking our interests in the Middle East, Africa, South/Central America. So our backing or not backing Israel will have nothing to do with preventing future attacks.

Dear Leader, you are either very dumb, or you think that the public is so stupid they will accept what you say as truth. How sad.

Perhaps we should think outside of the box on this one.
If Iran forces us into a war it would appear that the thing to do is consider the conquest of Iran. We need oil, they got oil. We want peace in the middle east. And in this case peace would come out of the muzzle of a gun. It also might be convenient to have a far away place to send some of our disloyal politicians and the social misfits that we have collected.

So, Hussein sends a letter to Ahmadennyjerk that we won't back Israel if he doesn't attack our ships.

Ahmadennyjerk sends a letter to Hussein, agreeing to the deal. Israel attacks and Ahmadennyjerk attacks our ships. He says, I don't deal with America, the big Satan.

Israel has to attack before Ahmadennyjerk puts vital machinery so deep into the new underground facility, that Israel can't destroy it with bombs. I think they have come to the point it has to be done now.

Hussein doesn't care if Israel is totally destroyed, every Jew killed. Israel has a motto, “Never again.” I expect an attack this month or next.

So Washington is making an alliance with Iran against Israel's existence to suit the wishes of constituents of the European-American political/regulator class (government-linked plutocracy) to keep oil low and the dollar high for their import/debt regime that is destroying our US manufacturing base.

The infinite ignorance displayed in that story is sky-rocket spectacular. The notion, for example, that a cyber attack would somehow stop the Persians from building something, anything, is nothing but blowhardiness. If nothing else is said remember that we didn’t need computers to build our first bomb and we really don’t need them to build much of anything now including bombs. Especially on-line computers. While computer aided machinery can be very efficient and is certainly labor saving it did not start the industrial revolution——but it does allow more Persian kids to stay in the basement down at the Casbah.

Pentagon war-gaming reported in the ever helpful NY Times (helpful to the enemy) reports that CenCom commander Gen Mattis finds "troubling" significant likely American casualties resulting from a go-it-alone Israeli attack. This would be devastating to Obama right before the election. This prediction of US casualties was all but confirmed previously by Adm. Mullen's shameful and indiscreet rear orifice pucker at the mere mention of a preemptive strike on Iran just before he stepped down as head of CentCom.

“U.S. War Game Sees Perils of Israeli Strike Against Iran”

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/20/world/middleeast/united-states-war-game-sees-dire-results-of-an-israeli-attack-on-iran.html?pagewanted=all

“WASHINGTON — A classified war simulation held this month to assess the repercussions of an Israeli attack on Iran forecasts that the strike would lead to a wider regional war, which could draw in the United States and leave hundreds of Americans dead, according to American officials.”

IMO, what is despicable and traitorous is Obama’s failure to guarantee that Iranian retaliatory capability against US forces and our Israeli ally will be taken out on day one before most of them can be used rather than after most are expended at both US and Israeli civilian and military targets.

Lots of folks mis-understand what it takes to shut down the Persians nuke program. First off the Bushehr reactor is right on the coast. Just as Saddam did, a few well placed bunker busters and it is history for another decade or two. Remember it is the source of their spent fuel to re-process. Let them bury centrifuges as deep as they want. It just makes a better gravesite. When the power to them goes out, and the water disappears, they will be as effective as a well-buried Egyptian mummy. I realy think the Persians have no idea what is probably coming after them. While the nimrods in the media make the most of how deep the Persian nuke hole is that simply isn’t what the most effective /expensive target is.

My info. about that comes from Netanyahu and Defense Minister Barack some months ago. I don’t know what Iran wants deep underground (could be the advanced missiles they need to carry the bomb) but that was talked of by those two as being the catalyst that would push them to take out facilities. I think they can’t wait any longer based on present warnings by Netanyahu. I don’t think he is bluffing.

Iran has no reason to fear provoking the US. Besides the current extreme submissiveness from Obama, there is the longstanding Bush/Obama policy of ignoring Iran’s action against our troops in Iraq & Afghanistan.

They are DEMOCRATS! They are stupid. I grew up in Chicago. It is known, as the Sun rises in the East, that Chicago pols and indeed, all cops, are good in that they can be trusted to take a bribe and keep quiet about where they got it.

They are all corrupt, it's just a matter of how much. (I, personally, have bribed Chicago cops. Sorry, welcome to the Real World.)

That anyone else would vote for this pond scum is simply a demonstration of their position on the left side of the IQ Bell Curve.
