Chalk up another life saved by a gun. Huh? No really, it happens once in a while. And like lots of unreported DGUs, this wont show up on any FBI statistical breakdown. Tim Bailey was on a 36-mile hike through Olympic National Park in Washington last Sunday with his gun! when he tumbled 150 feet down a ravine and broke his ankle. Though unable to get far, he had enough gear and smarts to keep himself alive for almost four days til help arrived. And he used his .45 to get the attention of rescuers . . .
He told columbian.com that once he set up some shelter, collected wood and got a fire going,
he fired his pistol intermittently from Monday until he was found Wednesday and hoisted out of the ravine by helicopter.
He started with 14 rounds.
I have five left, Bailey said in a telephone interview as he and his wife, Whitney, 31, drove home Thursday.
Good boy. He didnt just pack his heater, be brought an extra mag, too. The gunshots got the searchers into his general area where they found him when they spotted the smoke from his campfire. Paul Helmke was not available to comment.
It is legal to carry firearms in the park but illegal to discharge them inside the park for any reason, [park spokeswoman Rainey McKenna] said.
If you are legally licensed to carry a firearm in Washington, it is legal to carry it in the park, McKenna said. The punishment for firing a weapon can be up to six months in jail and $5,000.
Charges could be pressed against someone, but it is unlikely if they are in a dire situation, she said.
Good to know the National Park Service can be so magnanimous.
Hence the signal canon.
You could carry guns in National Parks no problem in my day and I did.
Glacier for example.
did not need open carry permit to wear a pistol out in the woods even if a park
“That’s an ancient signaling device!” Bad guy in -BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY.
Bam Bam Bam Bam! “Get the message?”-Buck Rogers
He will be in trouble with the Obamunists at the EPA for polluting the environment with lead.
A friend of mine tried firing into the air intermittently when lost. He eventually had to stop because he was running out of arrows.
Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
Campers Tip #42 - Never go camping with a girl who can outrun you.
Three shots for distress signal
One shot in a National Park!
Why do mummies need guns?
I like a 1911, but that pic is just plain weird. Who wraps up like a mummy cop to play with a table full of 45s? Very odd.
Still means bureaucrats could. Would never put it past them. For even the simple revenue they can take in. If they can somehow deprive someone of earnings AND their right to carry to them it’s worth it.
Daddies need them too.....LOL
I am sure he removed the bullet and only fired the blank cartridge. As a law abiding citizen he would have done this. /S?/
Sorry but 2nd Amendment preceded any “national park” by
at least 45 years =
ex post facto laws are illegal -
NPS you are SOL.-
I am sure that Obama signed the bill for other reasons, and would have vetoed this part of it if he could have.
Sure, was there a effort by the GOP prior to this?
That is from a game Fallout: New Vegas, the character Joshua Graham aka The Burned Man.
New Vegas has better writing than I have read in many books.
Fallout is pretty good, but I like Skyrim better.

Hmm talk about pandering and trying to please everyone.
‘illegal to discharge ... for any reason’
That is beyond ludicrous, Joseph Heller couldn’t have come up with that one, although Ayn Rand (along the premise that make enough laws and everyone could be a criminal) may and probably did.
Haha, that’s good.
Sorry, I played for the NCR. Never saw that guy.
The Best New Vegas DLC, Joshua Graham is also the best companion and most interesting character in the game.
It takes place in Zion National Park and you have to fight off a tribe seeking to join Caesars Legion.
