I liked Michael Clarke Duncan as an actor.

He was great in “Armageddon” - which was a so-so movie but I did like his character.

If you've ever seen The Green Mile he's the guy on death row who looks like he's about 8 feet tall when he first comes walking in.

Very sad, I hope he knew the Lord Jesus as his personal savior. I enjoyed his work, especially Armageddon and The Island.

Great actor. RIP. Bet he was really great in real life. 5 years younger than me, too young to die.

To the best of my knowledge, he knew the Lord.

He was one of the good guys in Hollywood. One of the few real role models for young men.

I always liked him as an actor and he was reportedly a gentle giant in real life. I will miss him. Prayers up for his family.

That is wonderful news. Although it is sad to see him gone home to be with the Lord so young, at least he is with the Lord Jesus and not in hell.

The Green Mile is chock full of symbolism. John Coffey, "J.C." heals people, watches the "picture show" with the projector lamp behind him like a halo, singing "I'm in Heaven...", leaves behind followers like the Tom Hanks character "Paul" who tells his story to everyone he meets, etc.

Strange coming from Stephen King, who is pretty upfront about his distaste for "Christians".

His characters always seemed genuine. I would like to believe there was more than a little of his true “self” coming through.

I own “The Island” - didn’t come to mind right off.

He was very good in that, too. Though he had little screen time.

I'd hoped he was on the mend after being found in cardiac arrest a few weeks ago. I guess it really was his time to go.

This is very upsetting, he seemed to be a genuinely nice man. Haven’t felt this bad about an actor since John Candy died.

'Strange coming from Stephen King, who is pretty upfront about his distaste for "Christians".'

To be fair to King he is a "believer" BUT he doesn't have much use for Organized religion.

And say what you will there is much evidence to support his position on that. I could tell you lurid stories for every denomination in our town, let alone the stories one sees on the news about sickness and corruption in multiple sects of organized religion.

That kind of symbolism is not strange coming from King, and he's said so himself. Most of his books have Christian overtones and he deliberately put them in there. I read his book "On Writing" and he talks about that very thing. Best book on the writing craft I've read.

Yeah, he's pretty distasteful towards Christians pretty much because they haven't been all that welcoming to him (calling him vile names because of his writing), which he also pointed out.

Great in The Green Mile.

Kids, stay away from anabolic steroids. They have a very bad effect on the heart and the valves corde tendonae of the heart. I do not know what kind of heart attack he had, but I suspect it was steroid related.

Actually I just read Stephen King's "On Writing". Fascinating behind the scenes look at what it takes to be a good, great, and marketable writer. He's one of my favorites, BTW.

He does make it clear in that book that he believes in God, but hates "organized religion". Well and good, but seems funny to me that he uses Christian allegories and outright symbolism in his stories. I haven't read "The Stand", but I've heard it has an unabashedly pro-life theme running throughout.

Odd for a liberal IMHO.

Having had not one of my best summers, when I had to spend time in the hospital fighting a major life-threatening bacterial illness, losing one of my peers whom I saw him in two movies, “Green Mile” and “Armaggetton”, it does hit very close to home.
