Blast from the past: Dukakis to attack Romney’s gubernatorial record at DNC

Michael Dukakis fanatics at this year’s Democratic National Convention should start getting psyched: The 1988 Democratic presidential nominee is coming to town Tuesday.

“We will be flying down [to Charlotte] tomorrow morning and will be there for the balance of the convention talking about [former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt] Romney’s pathetic economic record as governor of Massachusetts,” Dukakis emailed The Daily Caller on Monday.

“Under Romney we were fourth from the bottom in job creation — 47th out of 50,” he continued. “If anybody thinks Romney knows how to turn the economy around, he is kidding himself. And when he left office, the state’s infrastructure was a wreck.”

A former Massachusetts governor himself, Dukakis said he does not have a speaking slot at the convention, but will be sitting on the convention floor with the Massachusetts delegation and doing a lot of press.

The Romney campaign hit back at Dukakis’ attacks in an email to TheDC.

Blast from the past.

Of course he will tell us all about Romney’s shortcomings. After all, Dukakis was the one who did the “Massachusetts Miracle”, as he bragged about in ‘88.

And, we are supposed to be shocked and awed by Dukakis, because as a former Mass. governor, he has unique qualifications to judge Romney’s record as governor.

(sarcasm)

I hope they do bring him on... just what they need, a candidate who couldn’t beat a Bush a generation ago.

Yup - a loser like Dukakis is the best they’ve got against Mitt Happens!

I'm already laughing at photoshopping a short Dukakis behind a podium with his 2 sizes too big helmet. 2 EZ.

Will Fritz Mondale be serving lutefisk and kringla an the lobby? Will George McGovern advise Obama on VP selection?

Whatever happened to Kitty Dukakis? Last thing I remember was her drinking rubbing alcohol.

I would have to agree that if they needed an expert witness on what it means to be a pathetic governor, the choice of Dukakis was brilliant and inspired.

I’m no fan of Romney’s record either.

On the other hand, we know nothing of Obama’s record prior to around 2002.

If Romney has to run on his full record, why doesn’t Obama have to run on his FULL record?

"“Under Romney we were fourth from the bottom in job creation — 47th out of 50"

Factually correct, but a statistic created by the Socialists.

With 4 1/2% unemployment and a comparatively small population, numerically there weren't many people to put to work.

Maybe they are just trying appeal to the democrat's mindless base by having Obama look more godlike as he stands next to stubby little Dukakis.

Either that, or the dems are hard pressed to find anyone willing to attend this dog's breakfast of a convention.

They are trying to find somebody more ridiculous than Obama.

So far no luck.
