Hill Poll: Voters say second term undeserved, country is worse off
The Hill ^ | 09/04/12 | Sheldon Alberts

A majority of voters believe the country is worse off today than it was four years ago and that President Obama does not deserve reelection, according to a new poll for The Hill.

Fifty-two percent of likely voters say the nation is in “worse condition” now than in September 2008, while 54 percent say Obama does not deserve reelection based solely on his job performance.

Only 31 percent of voters believe the nation is in “better condition,” while 15 percent say it is “about the same,” the poll found. Just 40 percent of voters said Obama deserves reelection.

The results highlight the depth of voter dissatisfaction confronting Obama as he makes his case for a second term at this week’s Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

The “Hill”, an Obama mouthpiece and spinner now tells it as it really is. Pretty darn close to my final election outcome numbers on November 6, 2012. Romney/Ryan, 57%, Obama/Biden, 40%, others, 3%.

I think she would love to get a Republican in the White House. It would allow her to complain and watch the ratings go up. She already has seen her ratings go up for some reason but if she could have a constant bash Republican President show, it would be a plus for her show. Just like Rush is better with a Democrat in office.

No problem.

They just won't mention the poll. Therefore it never happened.

Piece of cake.

“Eighty percent of Republicans believe Obama doesn’t deserve reelection, and only 11 percent think he does.”

Who are these 11% and what have they been drinking? Perhaps the same 11% that thought Jimmuh Carter deserved reelection.

The “Hill”, an Obama mouthpiece and spinner now tells it as it really is...

I've been posting at thehill.com for years, back in 2008 I often felt like the lone voice in the wind, I would post something positive about George W. Bush or negative about Obama and get pages of scathing replies. If I would have to guess I would say liberals outnumbered conservatives by at least a 3/1 margin. However, something has happened in the last couple years, those numbers seem to have flipped and now conservative posters outnumber liberals and conservative comments tend to get far more "likes", which is odd because thehill.com does tend to lean left (it's owned by Diane Feinstein's husband).

Ever been polled and were about to give very conservative answers, and the pollster asked your party, and maybe for just a second you were tempted to say "Democrat"?

These are the liberals who failed to resist that temptation.

That should be about 40%, don't be al-armed, BE ARMED and vote Ryan/Romney or romney/RYAN or Paul and pal or Ryan with mittens or even Romney/Ryan, but VOTE.

DON'T SIT THIS ELECTION OUT AND DON'T VOTE THIRD PARTY.

Agreed. The Hill's readers seem far more right-leaning (at least the commenters). I think it has a lot to do with Drudge and the blogs driving conservatives to the hill website. Versus just logging on to the thehill.com.

The Hill’s readership has nothing to do with the independent polling results. They poll registered voters not TheHill readers.

This is the FIRST poll I have ever seen where those polled think Romney will win, not Obama.

The poll found 46 percent of voters believe Romney will win the Nov. 6 election, compared to 43 percent who said they expect Obama to win.

This is the most important finding in the article. People are talking to their friends and realizing that lots of people oppose Obama.

The GOP was brought kicking and screaming in nominating Romney but it seems to be paying off. And I was doubtful, but his judgement in picking Paul Ryan was a master stroke.

A quick look at the crosstabs gives a good explanation of the results - this is one of the few national polls that actually gets the partisan split right, or at least close. The respondents broke down as 36% GOP, 34% Dem, and 30% Ind, very close to the actual voting blocs in 2010.

I wonder if this is a set up. I think they are going to come out with a poll next week showing Obama massively ahead. I think the media is setting things up to show O as “the come back kid”.

You see this every election season. Moveon.org and other far left groups tell their supporters to tell pollsters they are Republicans voting for the Democrat. They think it give them a glamor of credibility with independent voters.

Taking these results at face value, I see no way Obama could win. I would like to know how these people polled would answer the question, who are you voting for?

A quick look at the crosstabs gives a good explanation of the results - this is one of the few national polls that actually gets the partisan split right, or at least close.

This poll was taken by Pulse Opinion Research, a Rasmussen operation. I have to believe they used the same partisan breakdown as Ras.

It's easy enough to check the D/R/I breakdown.

The tipoff would be if they used a different pollster (PPP, for example) to proclaim the resurrection of the Won.

Actually, I have friends that do exactly that all the time just to mess with the polls. Just another tiny way of “Going Galt”.

Interestingly enough, this is a poll of likely voters, unlike the usual registered voters polls, plus as has been pointed out, the demographic is probably close to correct, so this is probably a pretty credible poll. Wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall when Axelrod and company are discussing the results of their own internal polls, which I assume they’re truly trying to get accurate results from?

That would appear to leave his only move to be convincing a majority that Mitt Romney is a frightening, insufferable monster who could not be tolerated in office for even a single day.

Well, good luck with that one.

1) Registered voters so the result is even worse for Zero (he's probably under 40), and

2) No way an incumbent wins with this number.

The only polls showing The Disaster with a lead are those which are deliberately cooked by oversampling Democrats or using Registered Voters or Adults. Most of those using Likely Voters or an accurate sample show The Disaster losing.
