Dems. Remove Pro-Israel Language from Party Platform
The Weekly Standard ^ | September 4, 2012 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 09/04/2012 9:22:33 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

In the 2008 Democratic party platform, there was this language on Jerusalem, Israel:

Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.

This year, however, that language has been removed. Indeed, there is no mention of Jerusalem in the 2012 party platform adopted by Democrats.

In this year's Democratic platform, there is this boilerplate language about Israel:

President Obama and the Democratic Party maintain an unshakable commitment to Israel’s security. A strong and secure Israel is vital to the United States not simply because we share strategic interests, but also because we share common values. For this reason, despite budgetary constraints, the President has worked with Congress to increase security assistance to Israel every single year since taking office, providing nearly $10 billion in the past three years. The administration has also worked to ensure Israel’s qualitative military edge in the region. And we have deepened defense cooperation – including funding the Iron Dome system – to help Israel address its most pressing threats, including the growing danger posed by rockets and missiles emanating from the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. The President’s consistent support for Israel’s right to defend itself and his steadfast opposition to any attempt to delegitimize Israel on the world stage are further evidence of our enduring commitment to Israel’s security.

It is precisely because of this commitment that President Obama and the Democratic Party seek peace between Israelis and Palestinians. A just and lasting Israeli-Palestinian accord, producing two states for two peoples, would contribute to regional stability and help sustain Israel’s identity as a Jewish and democratic state. At the same time, the President has made clear that there will be no lasting peace unless Israel’s security concerns are met. President Obama will continue to press Arab states to reach out to Israel. We will continue to support Israel’s peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan, which have been pillars of peace and stability in the region for many years. And even as the President and the Democratic Party continue to encourage all parties to be resolute in the pursuit of peace, we will insist that any Palestinian partner must recognize Israel’s right to exist, reject violence, and adhere to existing agreements.

But as yidwithlid.blogspot.com notes, this language is far weaker than the 2008 language:

The United States and its Quartet partners should continue to isolate Hamas until it renounces terrorism, recognizes Israel's right to exist, and abides by past agreements. Sustained American leadership for peace and security will require patient efforts and the personal commitment of the President of the United States. The creation of a Palestinian state through final status negotiations, together with an international compensation mechanism, should resolve the issue of Palestinian refugees by allowing them to settle there, rather than in Israel. All understand that it is unrealistic to expect the outcome of final status negotiations to be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949. Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.

If Jewish voters still insist on voting for this cretinistic piece of excrement in this election, I will formally renounce my support of all they stand far.

After all, if they are to narcistic and stupid to support their own nation, may the flies of a thousand horses come to rest in their beer.

Excerpt from GOP 2012 Platform

Our Unequivocal Support of Israel

Israel and the United States are part of the great
fellowship of democracies who speak the same language
of freedom and justice, and the right of every
person to live in peace. The security of Israel is in the
vital national security interest of the United States;
our alliance is based not only on shared interests, but
also shared values. We affirm our unequivocal commitment
to Israel’s security and will ensure that it
maintains a qualitative edge in military technology
over any potential adversaries. We support Israel’s
right to exist as a Jewish state with secure, defensible
borders; and we envision two democratic states—
Israel with Jerusalem as its capital and Palestine—
living in peace and security. For that to happen, the
Palestinian people must support leaders who reject
terror, embrace the institutions and ethos of democracy,
and respect the rule of law. We call on Arab
governments throughout the region to help advance
that goal. Israel should not be expected to negotiate
with entities pledged to her destruction. We call on
the new government in Egypt to fully uphold its peace
treaty with Israel.

The U.S. seeks a comprehensive and lasting
peace in the Middle East, negotiated between the parties
themselves with the assistance of the U.S., without
the imposition of an artificial timetable. Essential
to that process will be a just, fair, and realistic framework
for dealing with the issues that can be settled
on the basis of mutually agreed changes reflecting
today’s realities as well as tomorrow’s hopes.

Look for ABC/CBS/NBC/MSNBC/NPR/CNN to repeatedly say:

“What is in the Platform doesn’t really matter! (for Democrats)”

You’re right — I just read this:

Democrats Give Space One Sentence

“President Obama has charted a new mission for NASA to lead us to a future that builds on America’s legacy of innovation and exploration.”

Keith’s note: That’s it? One sentence? Not that I expected more about space (its never a hot theme in presidential cmapaigns) - but with the constant series of press releases coming out of the Obama campaign that go after Mitt Romney’s space policy (or lack thereof, so they claim), at least the Romney campaign and the RNC have platform used more words to discuss the issue.

Great for the GOP and woe to the Dems. They are doing their best to antagonize the Almighty.:

“.......the Obama-Biden campaign found itself in a dilemma when Cardinal Dolan, after accepting an invitation to provide a benediction at the Republican convention, offered to do the same at the Democratic convention. Initially, the campaign declined. A few days later, it reversed course.

That is probably good politics. With Ohio, Wisconsin and even Michigan and Pennsylvania now in play, attracting Catholic votes could prove critical.

Still, giving the cardinal the microphone at the convention has its price. Key Democratic constituencies are deeply invested in a strategy of tarring as misogynists and bigots those who reject liberal beliefs and policies. These constituencies are not exactly enthusiastic about having their party undercut that strategy or blunt its force.

.......Some conservative Catholics are upset that Cardinal Dolan offered to appear at the Democratic convention. They fear his presence will inadvertently signal that it is acceptable from a Catholic perspective to oppose (as the Democratic Party does) virtually all meaningful protections for the child in the womb, or the historic view of marriage as a conjugal union.

Their concerns are understandable. But perhaps these critics are failing to consider how the Democrats are, whether they like it or not, sending an implicit signal of their own. The cardinal’s presence confounds efforts by the abortion-rights and gay-marriage movements to stigmatize and marginalize those who refuse to fall into line.

Some on the left fear that Cardinal Dolan will use the platform that the Democrats are providing to preach about the right to life of unborn children and the importance of preserving traditional marriage. He doesn’t have to do that. He will make his point and achieve his goal just by showing up.”

Speaking of “bigots”...

That’s the most anti-Catholic article I’ve seen in the WSJ.

My prediction:
1- Cardinal Dolan won’t change his speech from that given at the RNC
>http://www.examiner.com/video/cardinal-timothy-dolan-at-republican-national-convention<
2- He won’t let the DNC edit it.
3- He will be disinvited, or not broadcast, citing schedule concerns.

The Dems open their show with a 2 hour Muzzie prayer session.

Why be surprised at this...it’s hardly news.

It makes me wonder why would American Jews still vote for the Demorcrats when these same Democrats do what they just did?

Fankly this is making the Republicans look better by the day.
