CHARLOTTE -- There's plenty of talk about illegal immigration, but folks at a church in uptown Charlotte were hoping for prayers about it too.
The Rev. Laura Barclay of Winston-Salem stood at the door of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Charlotte during the opening day of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday to welcome people inside to see the documentary "Gospel Without Borders."
Barclay is the wife of Ryan Eller, one of the delegates from Forsyth County attending the Democratic National Convention this week.
"This is biblically-based and non-partisan," Barclay said. "When we found out that the convention was coming to Charlotte, we thought it would be a prophetic witness to the DNC. Immigration issues are something that affects people of all denominations."
Barclay is originally from Richmond, Ky. She attended the University of Louisville, then came to Winston-Salem in 2005 to attend the Divinity School at Wake Forest University.
Barclay is a social ministries coordinator and works in areas of racial reconciliation, wealth and poverty and now, immigration.
The movie, a production of EthicsDaily.com, highlights the stories of illegal immigrants in five states, including North Carolina, Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama and Iowa. The makers say the movie is meant to give Christians a way to understand immigration issues from the perspective of faith.
Among those watching the film on Tuesday was Kim Hovis of Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, who showed the documentary to a church group recently.
"We are very interested in global missions, especially in regard to women," Hovis said. "I was introducing them (the church group) to the issue of immigration."

This article makes it sound as if a Catholic Church has a female pastor. But that is not possible.
There will definitely be change if illegals continue to flow across our border.
30 million of them is enough to create nearly 50 new congressional districts (mostly democrat) and all the costs, pork and earmarks they can think up.
Illegals are nothing but government growth hormone.
Indeed - but what's her relationship with the parish, that has her ushering people in?
Bio says—Laura Barklay, pastor from Winston-Salem’s Cooperative Baptist Fellowship church, speaks to Journal reporter Wesley Young about the movie “Gospel Without Borders” from the DNC in Charlotte, N.C.
There is nothing in the bible that requires Christians to assist illegal aliens in flouting the laws of the USA.
There is much that requires they do not.
Nothing stops an individual Christian citizen from legally sponsoring eligible immigrants into this country.
Except that whole complicated legal thingy...the binding personal financial responsibilities aspect.
Oh the horror!
Commitment requiring personal financial responsibility!
There is nothing ethical, nor Christian, to take from hard working citizens and legal immigrants...and give to criminal illegal aliens....which is what happens all the time when illegal alien amnesty is pushed
If these people feel such a spirtual need to help illegal aliens....they can go back with them to their home countries and help them there
It did, at first, but the story explains that she's simply there doing a program.
“Barclay is a social ministries coordinator and works in areas of racial reconciliation, wealth and poverty and now, immigration.”
I’m a Christian man from a mixed-race family and have no ill will against anybody that has no ill will against me.
I invite this woman to kiss my Christian ass with regard to racial reconciliation as we are a mixed race family and I have never known wealth but I am now in poverty and Jesus Christ still loves me.
The Truthful Word of the Lord cannot be perverted by Progressive infiltrators usurping the name of The Church.
