I love Free Republic. I enjoy posting and reading other peoples insights and ideas. But I'm troubled and confused by the fact that while we all post and read daily the horrible things that Barack Obama is doing to our great nation, we are encouraged to "sit this one out" or vote third party. I understand Mr. Robinson owns this site and agree with his views on probably most every subject. I appreciate the stand he has taken and how he has always been true to his beliefs. He has provided an outlet that is invaluable to the Conservative community.
We've been through one day of the Democratic convention and I'm terrified. Mitt Romney wasn't even my fifth choice, but, my God, what an Obama with no fear of running in another election will do with four more years is unfathomable. And he doesn't need Congress, the man rules by Executive Fiat. I don't want to live under Socialism, I don't want to have my church forced to act against its conscience, I don't want my guns taken away and my (limited) wealth redistributed. I was shocked when God was taken out of the Dems platform. They don't even try to hide their disdain for a higher power, just blatantly remove God from their entire belief system. Basically show their hand that they want Jerusalem taken away from Israel. I can't take it anymore! I hear how eloquent Michelle Obama's speech was and I want to be sick. All lies! My family contains many military members, mostly Marines, they are sickened by their CIC. We were brought up to respect the Office of the President, but I'm finding it harder and harder to do every day. My sister is out of work after 30 years at the same company, and she is in a deep depression. My elderly mother is in a nursing home and is still finding it hard to find a primary care doctor and Obamacare hasn't even fully kicked in!
I live in NY and could vote for Mickey Mouse and it would make no difference. But I just can't sit around and hope others will do what I won't and vote for Romney/Ryan. So, yes, I will admit to compromising some of my conservative principles in voting Romney/Ryan because I don't think we will survive as a nation with four more years of Obama. Ryan helps make that decision a little easier. And with all Romney's flip-flops, I still think he will help this country in ways Obama the in-over-his- head President never could. The stakes in this election are just to damn high.
So, you’re going to vote for Obama?
Letting you know what I posted and that even if I’m banned, I appreciate all you’ve done.
Dear Leader thanks you for your support.
Good work comrade.
Don’t just read titles!
I voted for Sarah Palin in 2008—it's not my fault whatsis face had to attach his RINO butt to HER ticket:)
Great post! Thank you!!! I will not sit this one out and allow O to win. My vote will count!!!
Once Obama and his ilk are defeated, we can work on finding more perfect candidates in future elections.
Sitting out this election = a vote for obama. Romney may not be our ideal candidate but I do believe that he loves his country. This is an election that we cannot afford to lose.
Thanks, Admin. I hadn’t seen that thread. Thanks, Jim, for making the statement.
Did you seriously post after just reading the title? lol!
I missed it! Thanks for the link! I was hoping JR would see the light! :)
I say go ahead and vote your conscious. I don’t think your vote is going to matter.
Why the vanity? You are just repeating what is said by members on this board 100 times a day. Some of us aren’t so passive with our opinions of those who are going to sit at home because of the rotten choice of candidates who ran in the primary. Lady, you are just preaching to the choir. You aren’t special in your situation or opinion.
Most of us love this board and are very grateful for it’s existence and the hard work that goes into it by Jim Rob, but I think he gets it. We have no choice but Romney. We have nothing to apologize for or to justify. It is what it is.
How the heck did I miss that? It’s true?! I feel better already!
Do any of you people bother to read posts or do you just love knee jerk reactions based on titles? As Mr. Hand said in Fast Times at Ridgemont High “Are you people on dope?” Read, read, read!!!
We need to vote out the party that is determined to turn America into a godless, communist state that will turn most of us into peasants.
So you favor a third party? You’re right. Romney will continue the decline of America and will further trash our constitution but, not nearly as much as the Marxist Kenyan we now have. Voting against Obama will be the most fun I’ll have this year and for most of us, voting for the GOP ticket will be the most effective way to do that. For conservatives in solidly red or blue states, a third party vote isn’t going to hurt our chances of getting rid of Obama.
Everything you said is 100% correct and reflects the views of many frustrated FReepers.
This is my position, in general.
Fight for the best candidate possible, but vote the best available.
In time, you’ll end up with both.
Thanks for the URL while I was copying and pasting Mr. Mod, if you want to delete my post #21 which is now redundant, feel free.
We’ll leave ‘em both up, thanks!
I agree, with a little twist. I will vote Romney/Ryan but have NO hope that anything will change. The government will continue to grow, we will continue to accumulate enormous debt and we will crepe ever closer to that cliff. Bush had a republican house and senate, and in the days after 911 the nation was a united as I have never seen it before. The closets in the White House were stuffed with political capital just waiting for constructive use. What did we do? We spent it all on abortion and anti-gay crap. We wasted a perfect opportunity to restructure/reduce the federal government on ideological junk. So I have no hope that a future republican congress and white house will be any different. We are too focused on getting BO out that we are not pushing the candidates to do anything more than win.
I’m on board with everything you said. With one difference. One day into their convention, I’m not terrified, I’m more determined than ever. the last four years have been the worst of my life. My friends tell me I read too much, watch too much news, have become a polticial junkie, etc. I admit it. After the 2008 election, I was so depressed that I even started smoking again after nearly 4 years. I want to quit badly...but until this regime is ousted, my nerves will not permit it. Romney wasn’t my choice either but I’m voting for him. His first executive decision to bring Paul Ryan on board sealed it for me. And I have concluded that the man has a love of family and a charitable heart. I think he wants to do the right thing but is going to need a lot of help and guidance to pull him in the right directions. I’m willing to live with that. The alternative is unthinkable for me.
I wish you well.
Idiot! I cast a vote once for Mickey Mouse - Carter won that election.
After reading your post, it appears you need the mods to rewrite your headline.
I don't vote for liberals period, therefore I wont vote for Romney.
I understand others point of view in voting for Romney but I don't and cant share it.
Worst. Title. Ever!
I was going to jump on the bandwagon and yell at you like everyone else. Fortunately, I stopped to read your article. I agree with you. Romney isn’t even my fifth choice either, but compared to the communist Obama, he is the far better choice. And I live in Florida where my vote can make the difference.
I was watching just a few minutes of Moochelle last night and she was terrifying as she talked about her long-suffering father who had to work and was so proud for sending her to college, even though loans and grants paid for almost all of it. He only contributed a tiny amount, but that was a source of “pride” for him because that’s all he could afford.
From each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs. That’s their measure of success. Chip in a little and let the taxpayers pick up the rest of the tab. I only watched 3 minutes of the Communist National Convention and this was what I heard. I hate to think of what the other 3 hours was like. More of the same, I’m sure.
If I don't like what? Your post? Like I said, you are too late. We all know that Romney is our only chance. After watching Aunt Esther's speech last night, you must be a little dizzy.
Why would you put yourself through that without getting paid? Yesterday, on his show, Glenn Beck was offering anyone who would take it, $500 to watch "the" speech because he couldn't.
I’ve struggled with this issue a lot. Mitt is a liberal who has supported abortion, gun control, gays, Romneycare, etc. I don’t believe a word he says and think that he is a Republican version of Bill Clinton or John Edwards. He’ll say whatever it takes to get elected and seems to have no core convictions. I like Ryan enough.
Despite the fact that I despise Romney and find him the worst candidate we’ve ever run I think Obama is dangerous enough that I have to support Romney. I think the best course of action is for me to vote for Romney because I live in a swing state. If I did not live in a swing state i’d feel free to vote my convictions and would do so.
Got your attention, didn’t it? ;)
OK, so they’re voting for Obama? We know that and a quick scan of your post looked to be the same in a different wrapper.
No, there are many people here that won’t vote for R&R.
I watch the DNC as much as I can stand, as in “know thy enemy”. But I’m going to have to cut back to save my sanity.
You're assuming that under Obama there will elections in the immediate future.
I agree with you, 100%. The barbarians are not at the gate, they have breached the gate. This election pose a stark choice between the life and death of the USA. It aint beanbag this time. The freak show in Charlotte should suffice as the call to arms, general quarters, for all here and across America who love this country. We cannot fail - we will not fail - on defeating the left and terminating the presidency of Obama.
Real conservatives vote out Marxists, and vote in conservatives IF they can.
There is no such thing as the perfect conservative candidate. At most, we can feel good about supporting someone like a Senate candidate who is 80% there versus some weird Dem who can’t even rank on the conservative scale.
I take an extremely pragmatic approach when it comes to Romney. I think he’ll be better for the fiscal conservative in all of us than the social. He’ll want a second term, so he can’t piss us off too badly. The greatest security I have for him was reading his plan in detail and investigating who his advisers are. That warmed me a bit to him and then the convention sealed the deal. I am not holding my nose in the slightest, although I didn’t caucus for him.
But that was for my general election vote in a battleground state. I’m downright campaigning for Romney because of Obama, not in spite of him. And Romney wants to win. We got so burned with McCain in a similar situation that I think people don’t or refuse to see the differences.
There is no conspiracy: the process decently works (except primaries need to be closed) and Republicans voted for the candidate they felt was able to beat Obama and hopefully closely aligns with the Republican platform. Congress is and always will be the focus — because if we don’t have that, then we don’t have squat. We have to build from the ground up, and this first session under Romney instead of Obama is going to test them all.
The fact that you felt like you were going to get banned for posting that saddens me. It should not be like that.
Can you help me out here, I'm confooozed!
Almost skipped reading your comments based upon caption.
Can I suggest you ask mods to "correct it," and add something like "Real Conservatives can not, NOT vote for Romney/Ryan?"
I somehow missed this thread. If FReepers can unite against Communism we can win this battle for America.
Jim made a tough decision, but it is the only way we can send the zero down in flames. Like he said, we can deal with Romney later.
I, along with many other long-time FReepers will be holding our nose and pulling the lever for the RINO Romney.
I'm all-in for RYAN.
wilson, mazda --> mac is saying that as much as she dislike Romney, she dislike Obama more and that's the reason she would vote Romney/Ryan
It also tells me who only reads titles and not entire posts before posting! If a Mod wants to change the title, feel free.
“...a third party vote isnt going to hurt our chances of getting rid of Obama.”
Why risk anything? When your liberty and the very lifeblood of our country as it was founded, is at stake. When your children and grandchildren’s future is at stake, what in the hell is the point to vote third party? To make some kind of stupid statement that no one cares about? A wasted vote doesn’t do a single thing, not one damn thing, to make a difference in saving this nation.
Americans should send a message load and clear with a popular vote that is completely overwhelming. Obama and his minions, along with their socialist, communist or marxist theology needs to be completely and utterly destroyed. Romney and Ryan aren’t perfect, but by God, they’re all we have as an alternative. I don’t mean to be offensive, but a third party vote, no matter where you are, is idiocy.
If one chooses to join the battle to fight with his fellow patriots, why choose to fire only blanks?
