Democratic officials, citing weather concerns, are moving President Obama's planned nomination acceptance speech indoors -- and in doing so, choosing a significantly smaller venue that will leave out potentially thousands of Obama supporters.
The campaign is already moving to figure out what to do with those who planned to attend, and indicated Wednesday they would be invited to future Obama events, though not the main event this Thursday in Charlotte. An Obama campaign source told FoxNews.com the team is urging supporters to stay home Thursday and, instead, organize watch parties and participate in the live stream.
"We are encouraging them not to come to Charlotte," the source said.
Obama plans to speak to surely-disappointed credential holders via conference call Thursday afternoon.
The sudden change of plans, announced Wednesday by the Democratic convention committee, significantly scales back the atmosphere for Obama's second nomination address.
to many empty seats.
No work provision for your EBT card includes democratic rallies!
“You didn’t FILL that!”
ALL YOUR STADIUMS ARE BELONG TO US !
If the DNC convention gets any smaller, my bathroom is available.
Those RAT witches were afraid of the rain...
Hopefully this will also be the case in November at the polls.
wow. There are 2 million people around Charlottes’ metro area, they can’t find 75,000 Democrats? lol
LOL!!! HA HA!
I suppose the organizers are scratching their pointy little heads about how they’re going to fit those reconditioned 2008 Greek columns through the doors of the 20,000-seat arena.
And whatever will they do (besides scratching each other’s eyes out) if they fail to fill THOSE seats??? BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!
That's what I was thinking. When ever there was a democrat speech on FOX, I flicked the station and tried to come back later. I didn't want to listen to the crap.
Anyway, between channel changes, we saw shots of the crowd (looked like a Star Wars convention), and my daughter, who wasn't paying that much attention to the TV, looked up and commented on all the empty seats.
Too bad. I was really hoping for a show of loud lightning during 0’s speech.
And maybe hail.
They’re now going door to door to ask folks if they can borrow thier basement.
The symbolism of thousands of “empty chairs” must be eating at them. Wonder how they will take care of the Rats that have bussed in and handed tickets in bars if the small stadium can’t hold them?
And strong winds.
In order to fill the stadium, two things would have been evident.
1. The overwhelming aroma of the crowd would have been embalming fluid.
2. Not only would the crowd numbers be inflated, but the crowd would be inflated as well.
Now its an intimate get together between friends, lol
LOL Much better than mine.
The Drudge headline mentions a lightning threat. I suppose when you remove God, kill babies, pervert marriage, destroy families, promote immorality, and are liars, you really have to worry about lightning.
The media will now tell us how disappointed the “throngs” of supporters are with the decision to move this “event” indoors. We’ll probably see shots of lines of the party faithful clamoring to get into the basketball arena to see their Dear Leader.
National Weather Service - Charlotte, NC Thursday —
Thursday Night A chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Boy that sure sounds scary !
I have two questions:
- Are they still on the hook for the rental of
PantherBank of America Stadium?
- Will we have a live feed showing all the seats of Bank of America Stadium vacant during Obamas speech?
If they're handing out free stuff, sure. If they're not, expect the streets to be empty.
Maybe they could move it to the nearest Chick-Fil-A. If they didn’t fill all the seats, they could simply blame it on people who finished their meals and had left.
Wednesday September 5
CHARLOTTE, N.C. President Barack Obama is expected to arrive in Charlotte on Wednesday as the Democratic National Convention moves into its official proceedings on Wednesday.
Obama is expected to address DNC delegates and other guests during a speech on Thursday. But attendees will hear from a former commander-in-chief this evening.
Former President Bill Clinton is expected to deliver the partys official nominating speech during a 10:30 p.m. appearance at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Outside of the convention hall, more protests and other demonstrations are planned in uptown. In addition, additional road closures and restrictions will start as DNC activities wrap at the basketball arena on Wednesday and shift over to Bank of America stadium tomorrow.
And, yes, rainy weather is still in the forecast though temperatures could be slightly cooler on Wednesday.
Heres a look at what all is in store for Wednesday.
Some rain could begin moving into the area after 10 a.m., and overall theres a 50 percent chance of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.
Looking ahead to Thursday, current forecasts show a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorm.
People traveling in uptown and Ballantyne will begin encountering a new set of road closures and restrictions as crews start to prepare for the final day of DNC proceedings on Thursday. Meanwhile, most streets that were closed during the past few days will continue to remain off-limits for most cars and parking.
Among the new changes, traffic on eastbound Ballantyne Commons Parkway will be closed at Johnston Road starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Westbound traffic on the parkway is still blocked between Johnston and North Community House Road. See a map of all the Ballantyne-area closures at http://bit.ly/OKqnDI
Meanwhile in uptown, the street closures will start moving closer to Bank of America Stadium where Obama and Biden are currently expected to deliver their acceptance speeches on Thursday. Other closures include the I-277 ramps at South College Street (east exit) and West Carson Boulevard.

For example, at 6 p.m. Mint Street will be closed to traffic between Carson Boulevard and Levine Avenue of the Arts. Graham Street also will close between Mint and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Additional road closures will go into affect just after midnight.
Wednesday Convention highlights
5 p.m. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, convention chairman, calls the convention to order
10 p.m. Elizabeth Warren, consumer watchdog and U.S. Senate candidate in Massachusetts, speaks to the DNC
10:30 p.m. Former President Bill Clinton gives official nominating speech
Obama is expected to fly into Charlotte this afternoon and his arrival will temporarily disrupt flights and traffic.
The schedule calls for Air Force One to land at the N.C. Air National Guard base at 2:45 Wednesday. Those events will delay flights at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and the motorcades taking him from and to the airport will disrupt traffic. Stay tuned to www.charobs.com later today for traffic updates.
Obamas arrival is not open to the public. Biden came to Charlotte on Tuesday.
Backup plan for Thursday speeches
DNC committee officials confirmed Tuesday that bad weather could potentially force the Obama and Biden nomination speeches Thursday from Bank of America Stadium. As of now, the speeches are still on for the football stadium, though officials said people who received a community credential for the event to register them at www.demconvention.com/about/register to get updates about any changes in plan.
Any changes in the location could be a logistical headache, in part, because the arena is much smaller than Bank of America stadium. Officials said tens of thousands of the community credentials were distributed, while DNC delegates, certain donors and Obama campaign volunteers and others also received passes.
More protests are expected Wednesday, with campers at the Occupy Charlotte site in Marshall Park saying they will march again. Also, most of the 10 undocumented immigrants arrested Tuesday during a protest have bonded out of jail, records show.
But there will be another protest march Wednesday from a different political direction than the Occupy members, many of whom are on the left side of the spectrum.
Several hundred people are expected to participate in a Right to Life March sponsored by America, Defend Life. The group has the strong support of the Roman Catholic diocese of Charlotte. The march begins at noon at the Diocese of Charlotte Pastoral Center at 1123 S. Church St. in uptown. Participants plan to march to Trade and Tryon streets to hear guest speakers.
Later in the day comes Rock the Red 2012, a festival for conservatives thatll feature speakers and musical acts. The event is set to begin at 4 p.m. at The Hunter Farm in Weddington. Among those scheduled to talk or perform are Sheriff Joe Arpaio from Maricopa, Ariz. (8:30 p.m.); Richard Hudson, a candidate for the Eighth Congressional District (5:30 p.m.) and the Chris Lane Band (9:10 p.m.
The Drudge headline says it is moving because of lightning threat. I would say the lightning threat happened when they printed a freaking calendar with 0bama and John 3:16 on the same page.
Yep, I would stay indoors too. But then, I would never put myself in that position to start with.
The Nuremberg rally has been cancelled.
———They ran out of buses———
I calculated yesterday it would take 923 buses to bring the 65,000 faithful to the stadium. That is more buses that Mayor Nagin failed to use to evacuate New Orleans. Charlotte lacks the space to park 923 buses.
After the dreamers planned the event, the logisticians who tallied the number of buses, the parking available, the cost, and the impossibility of managing such a logistical task, the event was cancelled.
Pie in the sky failed when subjected to reality.
[ Those RAT witches were afraid of the rain...]
Nope. They knew they had no chance to even come close to filling that stadium.
In 2008, Obama would have given the speech in the rain to his chanting useful idiots.
Clint Eastwood's "Empty Chair Meme" has allowed the Romney Campaign to get inside the "decision loop" of the Obama Campaign!
Obama now has to pay attention to empty chairs at all his functions from now on. They are waaaay off their game and are scrambling! (I believe they were in trouble before the ECOTUS but Clint 's skit was akin to directing an Sidwinder right into Obama's Engine exhaust!)
(My pilot BIL put that in laymen terms for us non-pilots. Imagine someone shooting a grenade into your body's rear exhaust port... OUCH!)
Sounds like they’re going to try to stick with the football stadium?
People of Charlotte are going to be really thrilled when they learn that the DNC bused all this scum and fungus into their city... but have no plans to bus them back OUT.
They have a real problem now. See, all those people they shipped in and gave free tickets to thought they were going to see a Panthers game...
Just think how disappointed the 55,000 fawning admirers are, who wanted to see Obama but will not be able to do so because of the smaller venue.
Or more likely, think how disappointed the homeless shelters around the Southeast are, that they couldn’t ship 55,000 of their finest to Charlotte for the night.
Ooh! Let's have a split screen during Obama's speech with a blimp shot of the empty stadium. Somebody get Roger Ailes on the phone.
