Yeah you can’t really see the early response before the quake hit now because of the returns ongoing from the main shock but they were there just like before the Cali quake last week.

I say simply odd.

I think they must have that detector mounted on a spring board, or something. :)

That is in the area of an old lake bed?

I suspect some day, in their zeal to keep Breaking News totally full of mostly pure BS, some moderator will have a lot of egg on their face. Once they realize that though, they’ll slip whatever it is back in.

It is kind of funny, you can get across the country in about 5 hours, and that includes the slower speed limits and terrible road conditions!

I found that the roads varied from surprisingly good to laughably bad (especially in the mountains).

If you want to go exploring, having a 4WD vehicle with a winch is not a bad idea. The first time I went, I was on a tour bus winding around steep mountain passes with what looked like about 6 inches to spare and no guardrail. One rediscovers prayer at such moments.

you mean in California?

Salton sea is a geological quagmire. The area is spreading not unlike the Mid Atlantic Ridge. Though then confined by the NA Plate and Pacific Plate rubbing together. Very strange then throw in the volcanic history well it's just beautiful.

Many have thought that it was indeed an areas just like this that caused the eventual breakup of the Pangaea and then still others suggested it was areas like this that caused the plates to move to create it.

For the doomsdayers some also say it is this area that will cause the islandization of eastern California(not San Andreas Fault). Totally breaking apart allowing the Gulf of California's Water to once again take hold.

7.9 Near San Jose, Costa Rica

Over 80 miles away from San Jose and on a peninsula on the west coast in a relatively uninhabited area.

And both were revised from 7.9 to 7.6. Also an interesting coincidence.

Once upon a time, I posted about a local quake while the ground was still shaking. It got pulled from breaking. *sigh*

Well Super Plumes would we anywhere between 2000 and 4000km wide....

So that would not be unreasonable.

That’s too close to Charlotte, the Bank of America Stadium may have suffered structural damage, guess Obama better cancel his speech there.

As a precaution, he's declared states of emergency in Chicago, Detroit, Boston, and twelve cities. This will free up $200 billion if Federal aid for the cities.
